Orient post-match thoughts

  • as others have said I can't remember enjoying a game that much for ages. Feeel spoilt after Hartlepool and now that. What I was as happy with was the togetherness the players showed, all for one and one for all. It meant something to them and it's been a while since we can say that. Team spirit counts for a lot and we seem to have it at the moment. Add to it the confidence that winning games brings and ....... who knows. Maybe we can dare to dream of a quick return.
  • The Orient stand taken over by the Addicted
  • Fantastic night all in all. Thought first half we were disappointing but 2nd half performance was a huge improvement. Agree with those that have praised deon- he put in a great effort tonight.Daily won absolutely everything in the air 2nd half, as did Llera. The fans were excellent, should be proud of themselves.
  • Just got back. Really pleased I went. Not a brilliant first half although I felt we started to get on top in the last ten minutes.

We totally dominated the second half without creating too many clear cut chances. I am beginning to warm to Burton who I thought led the line really well. There wasn't a poor performance in the Addick shirt. Pick of the especially second half were Racon, Semedo, Burton and Sam (who tormented them 2nd half). Jonjo took his goal well and was a greater influence the longer the game went on.

As for the support - proud is how I felt. Oh that we could get that sort of away support every game - fantastic noise and kept behind the team even when we were losing.
  • Semedo absolute class, broke play up and gave the easy ball, best game he has had for Charlton
  • positives;
performances of semedo, racon, burton and richardson.
a proper away crowd, numbers and noise wise.
    negatives are;
after a good performance in difficult conditions at hartlepool, llera looks susceptable when strikers turn him.
i did say after the wycombe game about jonjo's temperament flying into tackles. on another night he could've been sent off (probably twice) in the first few minutes.

all in all, glad my pre-season prediction is looking way off the mark.
roll on the end of the transfer window.
  • Scrappy first half, and needed someone to put their foot on it. Good 2nd half, with Racon taking control of the game.

Ref was toliet. 2 decent away performances now.

    Elliot 6
    Richardson 6
    Youga 7
    Liera 7
    Daily 7
    Sam 6
    Semedo 7
    Racon 8
    Bailey 7
    Shelvey 7
    Burton 7
  • Pleased Semedo is getting praised. I thought he was even better at Hartlepool and I gave him MOM. I think his intelligence allows those around him to play. As for suggesting he moves to full back, well, thats just ridiculous.

Another great away trip spoilt a little by plod stopping people drinkng outside the pub. Thought O's played like a small team in a cup game for the first half and harried us out of our stride but second half they tired and our class shone through. All played well and I am beginning to think that Llera could become one of those proper Charlton favourites.
  • A good night.
Echo what supaclive said. Orient worked us well in the first half and made it difficult. Racon and Semedo key in the 2nd half very impressed with Burton in this division his hold up play tenacity and first to the ball/ opportunism has been first class. Scored 2 in 2 from nothing so pleased for him he has taken some stick but he is more than playing his part.
On the evidence so far we should have enough in this league to be hard to beat. It is still early days but if we can get some more wins under our belts and our confidence continues to grow we could have a good season.
Oh and think I saw RM stick his head out of his car window and call our support " magnificent" last night.
  • Biggest surprise for me was the great free kick taken by Llera. When I saw him standing next to the ball I said to my mate wtf is he doing ! The free kick was very Beckhamesque and but for a very good save would have been a great goal. Hope we see more of that soon. Every team needs a dead ball expert and perhaps along with Bailey we now have two.

Worst thing about last night was I decided to have a doner kebab on the way home for the 1st time in years ... I don't think over 50's digestive systems are built to cope with doner kebabs!!!
  • I found a pair of glasses some silly old sod had left in the pub .

They're on ebay if anyone is interested

Great night, very good football at times. Shelvey immense in the second half as was Bailey and Racon. Elliott solid. Parky clearly earned his money at half time and great to see his team gelling and putting in a performance. All players seem to be finally playing for the shirt, something that has been lacking in the last few years I'm sad to say, and you could see what it meant to them to have such good support this evening and to remain unbeaten in the league. Our Charlton is back at last!!!!! Long may it continue.

When was the last time we won 3 back to back in the league?

Also nice to see Elliott and Kins so pumped up at the final whistle and playing up to the fans. Think Elliott is bonding with us all in the same way as Sir Chris did. Think this sort of thing is good as it will 'infect' the rest of the team. This along with confidence will stand the team in good stead over the course of a very long season.

All in all very happy! Up the Addicks.
  • OS reporting 2,794 away fans.....thought we sold out 3,098......quite a few Charlton in home areas....only a couple of empty seats near me....
  • Excellent night.

Thought Burton and Racon were absolutely brilliant. Enjoyed sitting in the old Directors box with padded seats. ;-)

Got back to Dartford about 11.20.

Keep this team together and we should be winning every game (as I said yesterday, thats not arrogance, the midfield alone is two classes above anything in this league).
  • well pleased with the result i thought orient were piss poor but their hunger for the game over run us a bit in the first half where our midfield were out of sorts and thought some of the petulance shown by jonjo and racon for their bookings was a bit immature
second half we got involved more and outplayed them, impressed with the midfield 5 and burton as for the back 5 against a half decent team not sure they'll be able to hold on (luckily in this pub league there aren't many half decent teams)
you can see the team spirit and camaraderie amongst the players and management which is good
roll on the end of the transfer deadline...
support great in numbers but not as vocal as we could have been but vocal enough for us i suppose...........

Just oh so good good to turn up, be part of a packed away stand with cheery supporters and to celebrate a win together. Team looks as though it wants to win and work together ( thought Shelvey got a bit bad tempered with team mates though.) Some quieter nervous times, but the second half was a joy. Burton and Racon stood out for me as did Lloyd Sam, who worked his socks off even if he isn't as skillful as others. Llera's fee kick was tasty. Good to see Parky bounding about at the end and hugging the players. Obviously a lot of work being done on set pieces, still want a striker though.
  • Good night, always thought we were gonna win even when 1-0 down.

Support was ok, thouht everyone was gonna stand but there you go.

Was Curbs really there or is that the usual BS?

I've got visions of Les Reed stumbling round his house this morning. Poor bloke, take them to the pub.

Shelvey? And although he's not in the squad Basey?

  • Surprised to see a few people complaining about the 'useless' referee.

If he hadn't shown some commonsense re: Shelvey's tackle and elbow and had instead wanted to make a bit of a name for himself we'd have been 1-0 down at half-time and down to 10 men

standard , we get away with a massive decision that would have affected the result and we'll still slag him off ...
  • Was at the coach by 5.40pm had a couple of nice pints before the ob turned up making everyone go inside one ob said they thought it was wrong as it was so packed and hot in there, we didn't fancey the trek back to the station to for the pub the filth were telling us to use so went for a little walk walked up past the coach bout 5 mins further up lovely big pub on the corner drinking outside no old bill no ques at the bar either, bit of local chav totty too.. headed back to ground at 7 15ish, was pissed off no beer in ground forgot to get a programme too, found some seats was a little resteicted but could see both goals clearly. Havnt sung so much since derby away last term, one of the oddest grounds I've seen, love the banter with the bloke on his balconey.. matchwise great come back heads didn't drop players scrapping with themeslfs shows passion, great goal from burton and great scenes after the match, the bloke next me coverd his ears when we sang and left early and missed deons goal... great night all round, saw a few faces too..

You're the only one at home...
  • From the O's forum....

I haven't believed the published attendance figures for ages. Glad other people now agree.

If Charlton brought 2,794 that mean the East Stand was 25% empty. Which is total crap. The only bit that was empty was the middle section and that is not 900 seats. Weren't there some Charlton supporters standing near the North Stand end?

Well when I bought my ticket at 2.30 from the club shop ticket office they told me that there was only 300 tickets left and that was on top of the fact that charlton were bringing 3000 with them.
Do the maths - it doesn't make sense...

I can't beleive that there were only 4,582 O's fans ! (Tel says, neither can he....more like 3000)

Oh and someone quoted me as well.....about the OS reporting 2794, when earlier they said 3,098

Couldnt really see over 2000 seats empty....I wonder if the board over there are related to the Glicksteins?

    ;-)

Orient boards seem in awe of Jonjo.

"The difference was one 17 year old who was head and shoulders above everyone on the pitch in terms of passing, heading and tackling."

"Shelvey completely bossed the game 2nd half"

Last night was actually the first time I've seen him play. Glad to see he's just as good as everyone says he is. Seems to have a top-class attitude as well.

    Aren't we lucky!
  • must admit the 3 home stands didn't appear to have that many empty seats, the stand opposite us was a bit of a weird one to, didn't look like it was finished !
