not for me at this time. no doubt he still has a lot to offer a championship team but dont see the point of using the budget we have on a left winger when we have Harriot coming through.
Been released - Would you take him back? Still only 30
I would as a impact sub but his wages would be out of the question.
Do you think there will be many clubs prepared to offer him big wages? As im not so sure. We dont really have anyone to challenge Harriot for the left mid spot so if he does have a poor run of form or gets a long term injury then we will need to bring someone in anyway.
No thanks. Wages. Age. Would hamper Callum's development.
Priorities are ST, RW, CM (assuming Hollands and Stephens leave), CB (unless Feely and Ajayi are stepping into a "number 4's" role) and reacting to any unwanted departures (e.g. Solly at RB) so he doesn't fit into that and as we know the purse strings are too tight for passengers.
No. Callum has the potential and more importantly, from what we have seen so far, the attitude to make the most of his talents.
I had so much hope, when we first came down from the Prem, that Thomas would absolutely destroy the Championship and be instrumental in us going back up. I have no idea if there were issues in the background, but he was one of the most ineffective and the most disappointing (for me) players we had that season and I certainly wasn't sad to see him go.
We do need an alternative to Harriott (unless Cook steps up), but I don't think Thomas would be the right player - age, wages and would expect regular starts.
I remember seeing three interviews with Thomas when he was with us. In every one of them he came across as level-headed, intelligent and articulate - about as far away from the archetypical thick footballer as it's possible to get. I think a lot of people mistook his languid running style as laziness - and he was a winger as well, a breed not exactly noted for their propensity for tracking back and making last ditch tackles.
Definitely agree though that he was disappointing when we went down. Looked disinterested most of the time.
Was a very good player for us in the Premiership at times I thought. Scored some cracking goals and was very good on the ball when he was in the mood.
He spent 4-5 seasons playing with us under Curbishley, so he wasn't anywhere near as bad as some are making out.
Then again, people are always going to be more likely to remember a former players weaknesses and low points rather than the qualities and high points.
He typified everything I hated (and still do) about Premier League footballers.
Why ? Came through the academy at a good club but rather than sit on the bench he chose to come to us to get game time and has gone on to have a good career in the top flight. As above he always seemed ok in interviews.
Not sure what people expect of footballers sometimes.

To be fair to Thomas Pardew did seem to make a lot of our more flair players look disinterested. Although I don't think he did a bad job of making the less flair players look disinterested either.
On his day Thomas was a real match winner in a much more competitive league than we have been anywhere near since.
Still don't think we should sign him again, I should just point out, I guess.

Interesting point, I saw him on a PL preview show when he was at WBA and he was the polar opposite to what I expected, he was humble and down to earth and his fiancée was not some blonde bimbo a la Marcus Bent's conquests but an Indian girl who seemed very grounded.
I guess this reveals my own stupid prejudices around footballers, I plead guilty, but I still don't want him back!

I'll help you then.
I expect a footballer with an exceptional talent to use it 100% to play the best football he can at the best level he can for as long as he can. I thought JT was an excellent footballer but coasted through his time with us with the odd flash of brilliance (MOTM V Fulham on a Monday night TV game I seem to remember). He, like many others sat in the middle lane of the football motorway cruising along at 72mph. Too often appeared disinterested and showed little or no emotion during or after a match whatever the result. I'm not singling him out, it is endemic in football.
had a good touch, a bit of pace and some tricks in the bag. Apart from that I didn't see much about him. Would tear a full back to shreds for 20 minutes and then think his job was done for the game.

Yeah right I hardly ever saw that for us. Prick!
He's a poor man's Jerome Thomas these days..
If his wages are reasonable, why not?
Occasionally good moments surrounded by large periods of inertia.
at one point in the prem he was our only attacking threat. he would get tripped up and we would win a free kick.
He is right footed so a no from me ,I'd like another leftie to compete with Callum.

At the time he broke through into the Charlton 1st team, England were crying out for a decent left sider.
It was all his to play for.
He just couldn't be arsed. Rather play Billy Big Bollocks in the night clubs.
Would've had him back a year ago but don't feel we need him now.
