Think the unthinkable is now the phrase in my view.
The evasiveness re the Fans Forum Meeting , Mick Collins' article and the lack of a response to AFKA's open letter are not good signs at all in my opinion.
For the record I am not Nick Gray or any other *devil* figure.
I feel sorry for my former colleagues in the accounts dept who will have been battered today by our suppliers having read the paper - calling to chase funds which are not fue as they think they won't get paid!

my point exactly as i posted earlier what would be the impact to suppliers and others owed cash
not to much thought gone into the consequences of shouting the word administration around in public
[cite]Posted By: Mortimerician[/cite]Guys you have to remember that most of that £20M is owed to people who have worked long and hard for the club - not always for market rate - there's now the startings of a clamour for them to just ignore that. Sure, I'd love it if they would: they've got themselves into a mess. But, seriously, who amongst us would - or could - make that kind of sacrifice? Or even one that is much, much less. Say, £1000 out of your own pocket for the good of the club. It's really tough, stay and maybe drive the club further into the mire that you've steered it into (and maybe soaking up more cash on the way) or give up literally millions of pounds. I've just no idea what I'd do.
Very, very well said that man - are you working under a new moderate alter-ego on here?
I'm no expert but the level of debt on the company accounts may have grown on paper through no fault of the Board e.g in 2007 my house is worth £200k with a £150k mortgage so on paper I'm worth £50k if I sell my house. In 2008 my house is worth £100k and I still have a £150k mortgage so I owe £50k if I sell. I suspect that during the due diligence process, the purchasers' accountants would have had the assets revalued.
On the question of assets, I'm not sure that the training ground is worth very much - it's on green belt land and its use is very restricted. I'd be very surprised if you could flog it off for houses.
There is no voicemail in accounts. Besides - its bad customer service to not take the call - there is only so much they can do being in the dark as is everyone else but the abuse they get is awful because of suppliers being scared. I feel for the suppliers too, some being small businesses wanting their monley but responsibility must lie with the media. Again. It happened a few months ago when the A word was mentioned before.

its poor in my opinion Suzie to spread stuff around before it is confirmed its peoples livelihoods

Exactly...
This is what happens when someone knowing they know nothing pretends to everyone else that they know something...
I think the most obvious scenario is an editor and his reporter have sat down and said 'I know how we can boost our flagging sales, let's print a shite story about Charlton Athletic, don't matter if it's true or not, no point in letting the truth get in the way of of a good rumour, publish and be damned, damn all those poor buggers whose jobs and livelihoods might be lost because of our irresponsible scaremongering...'

That's why I have a huge problem with the piece that Mick wrote, cause if it's not based on a quote from someone in the club, it'll get creditors itchy, and make it impossible for the club to operate, as everyone will be expecting the club to be in administration, when it could be a long way away.
The effect of the report might be to starve credit lines for the club.
Mick in my opinion doest fit the description Red that you have painted but i do feel that the need to say something because of the silence from the club has been deafening caused that situation.
But i do feel that it is poor show to print something like that without naming sources and have direct quotes

I thought AFKA had a reply and was due to call Mr Chappell this morning. We are awaiting AFKA to report back to us.

That's about the most sensible post I've read on here. Some of the other "assets" will also be the players - and their values will have fallen on relegation, but their contracts won't have, hence further debt/ liability.

we dont seem to agree on much mate but that was my major concern

Just cheap tabloid sensationalism....
Agreed - this will cause a a massive drop in confidence for everyone. We are about to invest in sponsorship for the club and this article has my people rattled. The only losers are the club. The journos do not give a f*ck. All they care about is selling papers and/or pushing their own or some other vested interest's agenda.
Unfortunately it's the people in the middle that become real casualties. The press always walk away unscathed.

disagree strongly. If you really think the editor of a national is that bothered about the goings on of a League One club then i am very surprised.
My guess is that the reporter in question here has had at least a 90% knowledge of everything that has been happening and has been sitting on the story for weeks waiting for the right moment. Now that things appear at a stalemate, the gravity of our situation becoming more apparent, and the willingness of certain parties to start feeding the press, have combined to lead this to probably being the right time to run the story.
Things need to come to a head, otherwise the painful status quo will continue drifting on with the potential for greater long-term pain.
It would have been healthier if it had happened a while ago in my opinion.

This won't necessarily worry that many people. But if we were trying to sign a player he might reckon a three year deal might never last that long. A selling club might not allow stage payments.
That said, overall, I'm pleased that it's out there (and it's not that much really), as it might move things to a head.

The motivation behind whoever used Mick as their mouthpiece increasingly looks malicious. Especially given the post from Suzi so why would a Charlton fan give them the oxygen of publicity?

But in whose interest is it to run the story now?
No ones and everyones, depending how you see it.
It may prove pivotal in forcing the club to come out and be frank with supporters the current situation the club are in.
It may be pivotal in forcing the consortiums hand that if they have any serious intentions of taking us on, now is the time to stand up
It may prove pivotal in giving a realisation to some of the senior board members that this needs closure now, however financially painful to them.
It may prove pivital in bring to supporters understanding that the club could possibly be in for a troubled future, one where its going to need everyone of us hopefully to become a help not a hinderance in making it a secure club again.
Our club can't continue much longer in its current state, that is the one thing we have to fully understand.

Still not clear how the story is in the best short term interests of the club but can see how it might just be in the best long term interests for one or more of the reasons above.

Comments
One thing many people don't have ....... is patience.
And RedZed is right, nothing has actually happened that we know about.
Nothing.
Apart from a bit of posturing and a deliberately leaked comment 'close to the source of the bid'.

Are you looking at my bird?
You old thug Len.
