[cite]Posted By: Telnotinoz[/cite]Lets just leave it chaps and say that it could have been handled better.
But what about all the people who rely on the o/s for their information and don’t use Charlton Life or other message boards and therefore don’t have the privilege of yourself getting them in ? Do they just miss out simply because they don’t look on Charlton Life. I think it’s scandalous, if you say something is open to season ticket holders then anyone who has paid their good money despite everything at the moment then misses out then there needs to be an official apology on the o/s. This club is becoming such an un-professional operation it’s unbelievable.
Going on what was said earlier this week there are going to be lots of empty seats at this thing yet lots of those who applied didn’t even get on the list !
And this isn’t having a go at you Tel, if the club say they are going to organize something then why on earth is it down to the fans representative from Australia to sort it out ?
[cite]Posted By: Curb_It[/cite]Len you are not understanding what i am saying and you are being very unreasonable by saying you are being lied to - thats well over the top. They just dont have the staff to carry out this task.
Think that is crap personally. That is no fault of the customer, they shouldn't have laid people off then should they?
But that is my point!!! They made these cutbacks saying they were necessary but without thinking about the consequences. I could go on and on about this but its best not to.
but they are not being lied to about getting in to the meeting.
Richard Murray and Derek Chappell have been given 'no choice' but to postpone this week's question-and-answer evening at The Valley after receiving extensive legal advice.
Around 300 season-ticket holders and fans were due to attend the stadium on Thursday to talk to the football club board chairman and plc chairman respectively as part of an event organised by the fans' forum.
But overnight on Monday, Murray and Chappell were warned by legal advisors that it was not appropriate for the duo to attend a public meeting at the current time.
"I can't stress enough that the decision to postpone the event is one that has been taken with huge reluctance and regret,” said Richard.
"Fans will know that over many years I have never shied away from talking to fans and answering their questions, and Derek shares that approach.
"We would like nothing more than for the event to go ahead as planned, not least because we're well aware of the hard work put in by the fans' forum and Charlton staff to organise things, from dealing with the applications to planning the catering.
"However, our advisors have warned us it would not be appropriate to attend a public meeting, and the current situation means that we would have been unable to answer or contribute to many of the likely main points of discussion, which would have been wholly unsatisfactory."
Richard added: "It might sound strange, but I hope fans take this as a positive thing, and of course we will rearrange the event the moment we are able to speak more freely."
News of the postponement of the question-and-answer session brings back memories of a similar decision in October last year.
On that occasion, Chappell and Murray were due to attend a meeting of the Bromley Addicks fans' group but were forced to postpone their visit after it was revealed that Dubai-based Zabeel Investments had made an offer to take over the Addicks.
Again, the chairmen were given no choice but to postpone their attendance, but the duo honoured their commitment to return to talk to fans at the earliest opportunity.
Derek said: "Everyone who has met Richard and I know will know that it is in our nature to be very open with our comments to supporters, but unfortunately we have received firm legal instructions on this occasion.
"Having to postpone this event goes against how we would rather do things, but we also have to take into account the circumstances around at the time, and we have a duty to comply with company law.
"When the event was arranged we firmly believed that we would be able to adopt our usual approach with fans. Unfortunately, that has turned out not to be the case.
"However, as before, we remain committed to such events, and will be more than happy to attend when the event is rearranged at a more appropriate time, which will hopefully be as soon as possible."
Fans' forum member Terry Hastings said: "We are obviously hugely disappointed that this event has had to be moved after all the joint efforts of the fans' forum and the club to get more than 300 people to The Valley.
"However, if something positive comes out of the postponement, then it can only be good for the club and the fans. The fans' forum will push to get a new date with the two chairmen in the diary as soon as possible, when they are allowed to talk more freely to supporters."
More information will be announced when available, but for now attention turns to Charlton's pre-season campaign, which kicks off against Welling United on Wednesday night - 24 hours before the fans' forum event was due to take place.
The friendly fixture will see Phil Parkinson's men wearing their new home strip for the first time, and the Park View Road crowd are also expected to have the opportunity to see new signing Miguel Angel Llera in Charlton colours for the first time.
Murray added: "Everyone knows this is a big season for us. We have made one signing and there will be a number of new additions to follow, but now is the time for everyone to get behind the team, starting at Welling on Wednesday."
[cite]Posted By: WSS[/cite]What the hell is going on at our club?
Come off it WSS I said in earlier thread a lot would be i can't answer this or that so what was the point?
It is reaching boiling point now its do or die for the deal, so sooner rather later they will have to out and say done deal or this is what happened. we will see!!
Yeah, if we are in the midst of a takeover, then it would be ill advised & completely pointless for this to have gone ahead. I'm sure there will be some dissenters regarding the late cancellation but this is more about timing than anything else.

OK, now I believe that somethings's happening. :-)
They'll have signed an NDA (non disclosure agreement) which means they cannot talk about who the party is, how far down the line it is, what kind of investment/acquisition/merger etc it could be - and so most of the evening would be hypothesis and people counting 2 and 2 and making 2222222222222222!!!
This is the response of a Lawyer who posts on 606 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A54135704) quite interesting as "legal advice" is given as the reasoning behind postponment.
Well much ado about nothing hey? After all the build up, the Q&A has been called off "following legal advice"
Now the obvious inference is that something is happening on the tajeover. However, I do not think this justifies a postponement
Fans will be angry at the short notice and no doubt accusations of Murray et al "bottling it"
My thoughts on using the lawyers as the excuse is poppycock. A lot of the questions fans want answer relate to past events and statements that have eminated from the Board. I cant see how honest answers to these questions would create a conflict of interest.
I think they have lost an opportunity to engage the fans. using the legal excuse doesnt wash and I see it more that they are scared of a witch hunt.
of course they wouldnt be able to comment on a takeover (although thats business not legal reasons - nothing in law preventing a statement acknowledging their has been interest). a better solution would have been four murray to take counsel with him, deflect the potentially conflictory questions and answer the ones he can. at least that would show willing
[quote][cite]Posted By: razil[/cite]so what points of business law could they be breaching?[/quote]
It's not that they would be breaching any law but they wouldn't be able to answer any questions relating to the takeover or anything eminating from the takeover i.e Parky/Kinsella's position etc. Lets be honest, the majority of questions would be regarding the takeover & they would have to plead the fifth amendment so the whole evening would be pointless. Correct decision.
I obviously missed the major changes to statute this week. Surely the only reason that the lawyers should choose now to give this advise, rather than at a more opportune point like when the event was organised. It's odd though, mostly when something is done for legal advice the reason for that advice is given. Otherwise it ends up looking like you're lying out your ass.

can you imagine if they had 2 weeks less to respond to the e-mails.

Wonder why they ever pretended this was going to happen. There's going to be a few even-more-let down and frustrated punters

Look on the brightside something must be happening.
it's a shame as i was really up for this, but it's understandable now.

Yep...it raises more questions than it answers, particularly the "on legal advice" excuse.
My guess the T/O will be announced by the weekend.
Hopefully, if not then the Board will lose a lot of goodwill.
Stop bullying me,
What i heard this morning may be true they have never hiding from these things in the past there must be something on the horizon

With this always on the cards, this is precisely one of the reasons the Open Letter was published in the first place.
Well what do you AFKA surely this indicates something is moving?
so you still want answers now or are you prepared to wait a little longer in the half knowledge that something is a boiling
