The one midfield player who people seem to be forgetting about is Semedo. Personally, I rate him and if he is still around next season would be (in my opinion) a player who would shine in div one.

Agreed about Semedo. With him, Racon, Bailey, Shelvey and ZZ (possibly) we have 4 or 5 midfielders fit for most Championship midfields, and we've some decent players lining up behind them as cover - especially if Wright stays. That's why I say we should cash in some of our assests here first, because it';sthe area of the squad that can most withstand a bit of assest stripping.
Imo that means dispensing with Bailey first as I think he has the highest value to ability ratio. Not to say he's crap, just that his goals make him stand out, increase his sale value and mask the weaknesses in his game to outsiders so he'll represent the biggest return financially for the smallest loss from a playing perspective.
Yeah I know what you mean about the midfield, but if Wright and Zheng go as expected, we'll need to try and hold on to the rest of them.
Certainly we won't get the sort of fee we can get for Bailey that we could for Racon and Semedo, and Wright and Zheng we'll obviously get nothing with them out of contract. So if we want to make a decent bit of money from our midfielders, Shelvey and Bailey are the only ones we might get a decent sized bid for. I'd say it's more likely we could get more for Sam than Semedo or Racon, get the feeling he's a bit more well known than they are. Problem with selling Sam though is we won't be able to sign any one better. At least in CM we've got several decent players.
Even then we're looking to keep Holland, I assume Spring will stay, Sinclair won't go as he's got a long term injury and Stavrinou is turning pro. Though none of them are good enough to be regulars (compared to what we have), they could all be useful over the season.
Sam, ZZ, Bailey, Racon, Jonjo, Semedo...one decent manager and that midfield could get us back to the Prmeier League if we could hold onto them all and add quality in the right places elsewhere...sadly I doubt we can hold on to them all and our manager is pony!
They need the right defence behind them and goalscorers in front of them. Could do with a left winger at times as well. But yeah if we can keep them it's the basis of a good midfield with potential to improve.
As seen at the end of last season, the midfield looked great in possession but left our fragile defence exposed when the ball was lost. Unless we unearth another Rufus a more balanced approach is needed.
Its interesting that we are trying to keep ZZ and he has not just walked. He's not going to be cheap and I know this is 1+1 = 900, but we surely could only contemplate keeping him if we were to get new funds, but what would be his incentive to stay? A chinese consortium? .... I'll leave the building now.

there's a thread for this kind of crazy talk...........(but I like your style!!)
[cite]Posted By: wellie[/cite]Do you really think any of the above will be there next season. Both Club and players would jump at the chance if offers come in.

Agreed again. I hope he stays.

If ZZ goes we could have
Less technical ability and attacking play, but a very nice balance there.
I hope the club won't just jump at any offers, shouldn't be accepting low bids for any of them five.
We're trying to keep Zheng so it's a good sign that we don't want to lose our better players.
Agreed, though can't see Sam, Shelvey and Bailey staying.

I don't like you
