[cite]Posted By: AFKABartram[/cite]I think reality is starting to kick in a little now....
Hope to god we keep Racon
The transfer window is about to open...you expect a lot of these stories with just about every player in our squad linked with a move. The reality is we are a relegated side, are potless, don't know if the manager is staying or going, the directors are trying to sell and above all there are quite a few teams now that can offer better prospects for an ambitious young footballer.
That said Racon can do a lot better than move to Plymouth.
[cite]Posted By: Scoham[/cite]Start of the rumours and departures. Might not happen but we'll surely hear a lot more rumours like this over the next few months.
If he does leave, I hope he holds out for better than Plymouth. He should be playing for top 6 Cahmps team at least.
Of all the players likely to leave, I hope we hang onto him more than any of the others because we'll struggle to get a senior pro in with the kind of technical ability and work rate that Racon has and we probably stand more of a chance of hanging onto him longer term (should we get promoted at the first atempt) than we do Shelvey who will doubtless be off sooner rather than later, whatever happens next season.
For me, Therry and Semedo are probably the only two silver linings to the Pardew cloud.

Definitely will be hard to find a player like him at League One level, and agree about Shelvey, it's clear even if he's here next season he may well go in January or next summer. Racon could be here a few more years if he stays then we get promoted straight away.
Its almost like getting dumped by your missus then seeing loads of blokes trying to pull her on facebook.
Worse though as with players like racon and shelvey its not as easy to get another one of the same quality when you're down and out without a pot to p1ss in.
if we loose Racon Shelvey Bailey Sam might aswell kiss any chance of promotion good bye and look forward to league 2 we need to bounce back at the first attempt surely the board can see we need to keep these players and the players owe it to the fans to stay to there word and get us back in the championship
now Therry is fuly fit what a player he could be over the next few seasons if we can get promoted same as bailey he can only get better and we have one of the brightest young stars in Jonjo i really hope for the fans sake we can get this take over sorted and put all fans minds at rest
id like to see perhaps the club makeing some type of statement
''We are entering a new Glikstenlike era. Get used to it.''
Oh let's hope not. That would be very hard indeed to get used to...

Indeed, he can do better than Plymouth, as Black Forest red said. But sadly , either way it's unlikely he wll be here next season.
With ZZ, Racon, Shelvey, Sam and Bailey we have the most plunderable midfield in the lower leagues and every championship side in the country knows we will listen to any offer over two shillings and sixpence.
It's going to be very hard to hold on to any of them - and from the players' points of view unfair if we try to as they all deserve the right to parade their skills against better sides than Gillingham, Millwall etc etc.
I think we have been in a sub gliksten like era ever since the Board decided to sell (cAugust 2006?). things have never been so badly run, which is made worse in that in the pre Curbs departure era things had never been better.
Am I the only who doesn't think Nicky Bailey is all that? I love his energy and enthusiasm but I really don't think he'd be that hard to replace, even in League 1 - the lower leagues are littered with players who get by mainly on their work rate. Okay, Bailey is probably one of the better examples of such a player but if clubs are seriously talking about paying £1.5M plus for him, i'd wouldn't even think about turning that down.
I can't see much happening on the transfer front (either in or out) until the takeover goes through or the plug's pulled. It's gonna be a quiet few weeks, IMHO. We're only likely to lose those player out of contract like Ambrose, Weaver and ZiZi
It would be a blow if we lost him (Racon) as his is one of our better players when fit, and I for one hope he stays. But as a club we will survive as we always do and move on, it’s just a sign of the times for us at present.

How many midfielders score 10 or more goals from open play in a season?
Bailey has done that for 3 seasons or more now and that is what sets him apart and would make him hard to replace.

Fair comment regarding the rest of his game.
His goals are important, but yeah he's not as good some think he is overall.
Playing him out on the left has covered up those weaknesses and given him freedom to get into goalscoring positions more often.
If Birmingham and Newcastle are really considering him, where will they play him? He's not a Premier League player, and in the case of Newcastle he'd have huge expectations if he was used in central midfield. I don't know if he'd handle that sort of pressure well. He hasn't shown he can control a game, we've got technically better midfielders than him and he's not big and strong either.
That said he is a good player, but we have other players at a similar level that are arguably better, he's only the best when it comes to goalscoring and probably work rate.
Plymouth do not have the funds to purchase Racon. He's too good for them and in all honesty too good for us. But I hope we keep him. IF Racon were to be transfered then he should be in one of the top six Championship teams, not a mid table mediocre team like Plymouth.
It's fair enough comment about the goals, but I would say you could probably nock 3 to 5 off that tally for goals he's cost us with missed placed passes or rash tackles.
If we build a 'proper' team next season with some decent strikers getting decent service, I don't think we'll miss his goals that much.
I accept that is a big IF given our recent track record of signing players a building teams!

Hence the 1st June deadline for people to renew. The theory being get people committed before the departures.
Nevertheless I still renewed.
We are entering a new Glikstenlike era. Get used to it.
Thanks Curbs for the good times.
you're right.
And 60% of them will be journo / agent rubbish.
Still not enjoyable to read though...
Doesn't mean this isn't true but chasing is not the same as signing in any case.
Racon will still be on his existing CCC contract and I wonder if Plymouth would offer more than that.
But he is a good player and so you'd expect to see interest in him despite his injury record.
Realistically, out of Shelvey/Bailey and Racon, Racon is probably the most likely one to stay.
Charlton's better players (Racon) + scored goal of the season against? (Plymouth)
= he must be signing for them.

Murray really has been the best and the worst!
A load of motley tiny-knobbed blokes...
