Parky to Stay

  • I don't think you'd get many players or managers wanting to join your club seth!
  • I believe when Dundee Utd won the SPL (and got to the semis of the European cup and final of the UEFA) they had the lowest wage bill in the league, but the highest with win bonuses. I'm not sure that the players or managers (and agents) of today would accept that unfortunately Seth. Also, given that it is a squad game now, it would be difficult for a player on a low basic to accept not getting picked, particularly when the team is on a run of failures. We have appearance fees in contracts but they've lead to players not making the team when they might have added to it from a football perspective.

I also wonder - given how nervy we looked when we were on that really bad run (worse than the current poor run, although it's shades of shit really) - I wonder how much worse they would have been if they were losing money too.
  • [cite]Posted By: ShootersHillGuru[/cite]I think its interesting that Mr. Murray was reported as saying earlier this week that Parkinsons future would be decided in a few weeks. What possible difference could a couple of weeks make in assessing his suitability ? I am not saying for one minute that Mr. Murray was being disingenuous but bearing in mind the significance of his reply it would have been a great answer to deflect further inquiry ?
HE WILL BE JUDGED ON RESULTS!!
  • I just done a little comparison here - it means sweet FA but I love twisting stats.

Parky has garnered 22 points from 23 league games I think.

There was a manager some time ago who gained 23 points from the first 23 games of a season and was equally as hounded by fans and was close to be kicked out. The board however stuck by this manager through the tough times and went on to arguably the greatest manager of all time leading the most decorated team in Premier League history.

It could happen with Parky as well. ;-)
  • Yeah, players want their cake and eat it too, don't we all.
Take home matches, in front of your own constituents, it is easier to win home matches than away ones (the stats back that up, even to the extent that refs favour the home team more than the away team), and therefore winning at home will INCREASE your income as a player, and keep your home crowd happy. As a by product losing at home, when things are in your favour, will upset your own support, so there should be an incentive to do everything possible not to lose at home.
In an average season there will be a couple of really tough home games, so allow two home defeats before the pay cut kicks in, but maintain the highest bonus for a home win.
Don't play players who don't want to agree to this system.

    Christian Gross?
  • Fergie more like.
  • Fergie did have considerable form as a manager before going to Old Trafford.
  • The man hasnt been upto scratch at this level nice enough as he is, Those sayin we need consistancy and that we need to stick with him need to realise that if we go back up the man cant do the championship so what would we do remove him after promotion???
  • Whilst Parky was fortunate to get ZZ and Racon back from injury he was unlucky to lose Fortune,Gray,Semedo,McEveley and Murty the latter 2 of course being loans. That all happened at quite an important time.

My problem with Parky is that somewhere in all these performances we should have tonked somebody. We had a good day - the opposition didnt. Just law of averages suggest somewhere along the line we should have beaten someone by 2 clear goals. We havent. It doesnt matter now because we are effectively relegated and as others have posted the pressure will be off.

The time when we needed to perform has passed and Parkys record now stands as a sorry legacy. It is sadly a record of failure. And time for a change.

  • At the end of the day, 3 wins from 25 games is simply not good enough.

Unless he wins three out of his the four games this season, he should go in my opinion.
  • Good to see that the man Parky sees as our saviour is so highly rated by his current employers

They are offering 750k deal apparently in total including add ons.April 17 2009 at 2:33 PM Butterworth (Login OldButterworth)

Response to Re: THREE CHEERS FOR CHARLTON !!
F**k me, I'd have said thanks very much if they were offering £75,000 ,never mind ten times that. Who's incharge of incoming transfers at the Valley these days.........Ridsdale?
  • I must admit that I thought Parky was not up to the job when appointed. Although the results have been poor, we have noticed an improvement in performances of late and we are at least losing by the odd goal. Rome was not built in a day.

I know that up front we are weak, but at least Parky is addressing the problem starting at the back first and then you can move forward. IF we can keep hold of the majority of the team that has played in recent weeks, especially the midfield, barring Zheng because we can't afford to keep him on his wages, then I think we can mount a serious challenge next year.

If Parkinson goes, the players have to adjust to playing to another manager's style. At least Parkinson encourages players to pass the ball along the floor. I know league one is hard to get out of, but Swansea showed they could win that league a year ago by playing decent football. Give Parkinson a few months of the new season at least I'd say.

  • [cite]Posted By: Ketman[/cite]I am just waiting for Ben to come on here & start defending him now, the Manager who oversaw the worst run in Charlton's History. :-)

    yawn : - (
  • Yeah...I agree with a lot of what Bing said.
However, we need our general to be lucky as well as astute. Parky has been anything but lucky but he is a decent man and I appreciate that.
At the end of the day Murray needs the season ticket money for the club to survive and sadly the majority will not renew based on what they have seen this season. We need to be inspired by someone like Paul Ince, so long as he can entice the good free signings to sign for us, which is a big ask as most will sign for tier 2 clubs.

  • He HAS to go! I know so many who are not renewing thier season tickets if he is still in charge. And i am talking people who have been going 30+ years
  • I've given up with all this thinking malarkey. We renewed today. Feel so much happier now that I can just go back to being an ordinary moaning supporter.

Me too. I asked the very nice lady at the office if she would give the money personally to the Chief Exec. She said he was too busy and there was a bit of a PR crisis as all his official photos had needed to be changed to wipe the smile of his face.

Privately said he was down the Oak pissed as a newt and had been trying to draft a very technical email response for days. Very sad.
  • getting better !!!!!! f**king geting better !!!!!!! how in Gods name could they have got WORSE ??????

He goes down in the history of football as the WORST ever care taker manager. We are in the results business -- but lets foget that and keep the clown who was Pardews number two for TWO years !! of course he had NOSAY in any thing Pardew did -- therefore pay back the last TWO years wages !!!

So now that things have vastly improved lets kep him ! i mean we couldnt be shit in the next division could we ? we couldnt possibly be 11 points adrift in the next lower league we fall into --- thats not posssible is it !!

So --- siting on the fence here

Some interesting point arising from this thread for me are as follows

Murray not confirming Parkys position yet: is he waiting to see what the renewals are like or seeing what kind of performances Parky can muster between now and season end? I would suggest the former.

The other is the issue of performance based pay: the reality of business were it applied strictly to football should mean a much larger proportion of pay is based on performance. Although football has tended to live outside of strict application of business style finance I wouldI suggest outside of the top 10 clubs this will start to happen more and more now the credit finance rug is being pulled out as such - the alternative may be oblivion for many clubs. It could certainly be achieved with bigger signing on fees perhaps?
