[cite]Posted By: Henry Irving[/cite]I see you point Stu but Bing is right on this one.
Some people would rather moan about something than solve the problem by moving. How hard was it to get up and move to another seat, quite simple I'd imagine and that way everyone is happy.[div id=Poll][h2]Poll[/h2][p]Soton[/p][div class=ShowVote]Soton win[span]28[/span][div class=VoteBar][div style=width: 42%;][/div][span]42%[/span][/div][/div][div class=ShowVote]Draw[span]12[/span][div class=VoteBar][div style=width: 18%;][/div][span]18%[/span][/div][/div][div class=ShowVote]Charlton win[span]25[/span][div class=VoteBar][div style=width: 38%;][/div][span]38%[/span][/div][/div][p]Total Votes:66[/p][/div]
No, it wasn't hard at all and we actually found a better seat but I think Bing is talking about the principle rather than the practicalities.
I'd rather have the option to move around and stand if I want to myself but I can see Bing's point.
Bing, where were you sitting as would like to have said hello?

Principles are great in theory, they should go out the window in the real world though.
Why sit and suffer just to prove some non-point.
People who stand at football will ALWAYS stand, no matter what. Yeah, they should do so at the back, like I do, but you know, some people are not as considerate as others, not much you can do about that.

Its just plain f*cking rude to fellow fans. The inconsiderate ones should be ejected. Have absolutely no problem with people standing but not if they are blocking other peoples view. No one who has paid for a seat should have to move at all.
I disagree HU16 that there's nothing you can do about inconsiderate people.
And I disagree with the whole basis of your argument. You seem to be suggesting that if someone else does something wrong then the innocent party should just move along.
If we lived in your world we'd be all meek to the loud-mouthed idiotic mob. Perhaps we do in fact live in your world but what other people on here are trying to say is that they don't think it's right. You can hardly try and justify it even if it is the reality.
"Cheers Les, Had a chat with Henry Jnr today and he's still up for more away games"
Good news Henry. Sounds indelicate but in my experience those sorts of days out captivate a young potential fan more than some home 0-0's and bit of happy, clappy.
Both sides of this argument are right. HU16 is right to say if there is other seats around and someone is blocking you view by standing then it is easier just to move. Saying that i do think that people who want to stand should go to the back where they wont get in anyones view but it is not easy just to move to the back if there is no room there. I tried to go to the back of the stand in the second half but was not allowed to so that is not allways possible. It just goes to the argument that if their was standing areas in grounds then everyone would be happy

Stu, I wasn't personally inconvenienced yesterday but there were people behind me who were. Yes they could move but why should they? Image yourself at a cinema watching a film and somebody stands up in front of you the whole time. What are you going to do? Ask them to sit down, ask them to move somewhere else, call the management? Well I suggest you'd probably do all of those things. Yet at a football match, apparently it's fair game to stand in peoples way, and if you don't like what they are doing ,then you are supposed to move. Frankly it's crazy that we're even debating it.
I am absolutely 100% in favour of safe standing areas at football grounds. The othodoxy that has taken over, post the terrible tragedy at Hillsborough, that standing is always bad and sitting is always good is wrong. On the other hand until there is movement on this, sitting is the only permitted method of watching football. Those who want to stand can usually get away with it, indeed it may be tacitly encouraged in certain areas but it's still wrong to stand up in front of people who have the right to expect you to sit down.
[cite]Posted By: Henry Irving[/cite]Bing, where were you sitting as would like to have said hello?
Henry, I was sitting over to the left as you looked to towards the pitch, in Row M just up from the exit stairs. Next time I'm away I'll look out for you. You won't know me, but I'll recognise you.

Maybe I'm not explaining this as well as I could. I'm not saying standing in front of other people is ok, right, or acceptable, what I'm saying is it's just as idiotic to sit behind said people and simply moan about it, when there is 100's of seats around that you could simply move to. In an ideal world that would never happen, guess what, the world isnt ideal and in my opinion some people (this isnt directed at you bing, or anyone on here as a matter of fact) seem much happier to sit there, at an inconvience ONLY to themselves simply so they have something to moan about.
The cinema example is a bit crap, simply because nobody in their right mind would get more enjoyment from watching a film stood up, lots of people do get more enjoyment standing at football, it's a simple fact that you can create more noise whilst stood.
I understand where you are coming from Stu and I wish there was standing areas too.
But I was at Ipswich last year when there was nowhere else to sit and this selfish git in front of me ruined most of the first half of the game by standing up pretty much when he wanted. He couldnt give a flying fuck about anybody else than himself.
At half time I had a few words which werent well received and I didnt enjoy much of the rest of the game either tbh.
Behind me were women and kids as well and the whole thing was unnecessarily unpleasant.
I know the argument has been done to death but I hate this selfish attitude. And I wouldnt consider myself flask and blanket brigade just yet.
I'm going to the Kent v Surrey pe-season warm-up game at Beckenham in the morning, and I was just thinking that I must put the flask and blanket out before I go to bed ! Taking one of those green fold-up chairs with a slot in the arm rest to hold your mug of tea , too...
Unlikely to be bothered by anyone standing up in front of me, though. I think the entire 'crowd' will be me, Miserable-oldish and the groundsman's dog !

It is not a crap example, it deals with two similar seated situations. I accept that people want to stand at football, I am really sympathetic, if I ran the country, you'd get your wish. I have signed petions about it. Unfortunately the powers that be wont allow safe standing areas. So we are left with a mess. In good British pragmatic fashion, tolerence is usually shown (but not always by the ground staff) to allowing some standing in seated areas. Until the rules are changed, the reality is that you are supposed to sit. Those of us who want to sit are quite happy for those of you who want to stand to stand as long as you don't stand in front of us. It is incumbant upon those who choose to break the rules to give due consisderation to those who don't and want to sit and watch the game. There cannot possibly be any arguement about this.
I apologise to everybody for raising this again because it always ends up with this kind of argument. I'm sorry Stu but that's the way I feel about it.

Must have been just behind you as I was in row u on the left almost on the segregation netting.
Do say hello but remember I may not be wearing a cardigan : - )

Hope you get a good days cricket in. Plan to get down to Canterbury bit later in the summer. I presume its a tartan blanket. And I must say I am rather disappointed with the quality of flask you get today.
Tartan blanket? Indeed. It's a Black Watch rug, no less, my friend !
You're not wrong about modern flasks, either. These ruddy stream-lined stainless steel things. Nowhere near as good as a proper old Thermos with a plastic cup that's meant to fit neatly on the top but always falls off and gets lost in the bottom of your rucksack!
What a shame - I come on here to read about a rare win, only to find most of the latter part of the the thread taken up by the usual going round in circles argument over standing away fans. Go dig up one of the many old threads on the topic and continue your debates there, please....
It would help if Youga was consistant. I only ever seem to see him when he's been terrible, but the games i've missed he seems to done ok according to various reports.
Most importantly, the Linesman is wearing a baseball cap, how good is that, infact, when was the last time you saw an official in pro football (other then Mr Singh) wear a non religious piece of headwear?

Great goals. Still need to close your eyes when we're defending, though!
Championshit is a crap tv show. need to make a seperate show for the lower leagues and concentrate on The championship itself as the name sugests.
Bailey perhaps one of the very few players who can make a mistake like that and it can be forgotten about pretty quickly. Imagine if it was Youga...
Youga is the new Kish or Lisbie.
Nothing he does will be right for some.
"It was a strike of true quality and brought about a pre-rehearsed celebration in front of the travelling away fans at St Mary's."
So they planned it, doesn't explain what it meant or why they did it though.
