Southampton v Charlton - MATCH THREAD AND POST-MATCH REACTION

edited April 2009 in General Charlton
A quick glance at the fixture list, and amazingly the season hasn't ended ! We're apparently still playing games, and there is even one tomorrow !

A game that has traditionally been blessed with 2,500 - 3,000 Addicks will sadly now be graced with just 800-900 crazy fools with nothing better to do loyal followers.

So can we win ? Will Soton's problems see them implode ? Or will we roll over and let them get a much needed boost ?

You tell me ?

Who will play, who won't etc

  • "Saints have slashed ticket prices for this Saturday's crucial home game against Charlton Athletic in a bid to pack out St. Mary's and roar the team to safety... Tickets will be priced as follows: Adults £15 Concessions £5"

How can the league allow them to do this after tickets have been on sale?

As long as they pay back anyone who bought a ticket at a higher-price there shouldn't be a problem.
  • Charlton win...

    4-4-1-1

    Elliott
    Butterfingers-Hudson-Ward-Youga
    Sam-Racon-Bailey-ZZ
    Shelvey
    Kandol
  • Southampton will have a big crowd, they need to if they are to survive till the end of the season.

Kandol hat-trick. Euell sent off. 5 nil stroll for Charlton
  • will be a full house in the home end as that statement on the southampton thread said they want everyone to come as they can help fund the club seems odd then that they have slashed prices, surely 15,0000 at full price would make more than 25,000 at £15??

I'd say they were worried that they'd only get around 11/12,000 - including away fans. As AFKA points out once this was a popular away game for us but with relegation a racing certainty we are likely to take well under 1,000.
  • Henry Jnr has never seen Charlton win away in a competitive match in around 14 attempts.

Henry Jnr has never seen Charlton scored 5 or more goals in what must be over 100 games

Henry Jnr is going to Southampton tomorrow.

So we are going to win and we are going to score five, or maybe six. FACT

5 - 3 to us as both team say "What the F***, let's go and enjoy it."
  • Backs-to-the-wall battling Southampton v Charlton 'nothing left to play for' Athletic means we will not be recording our second away win of the season, I fear.

I'll stick my neck out and say we''ll pick up a pointless point, though.

1-1. Bailey to score again and further increase his summer sale value.
  • Sell out crowd roar on the Saints on for 89 mins including a 27 minute long spell of "GOING DOWN" to the 756 Charlton fans. Followed by a 90th minute Bailey long range effort that hits the back of the net !!!!! 0-1 to us
  • I see it as 3-1 to them but to keep my rose tinted's on i'll say Cafc to win 3-0

  • 0-0
  • Scoreless draw and about as much excitement as an STI check up. Allegedly.
  • with the state they are in we should fancy ourselves BUT I reckon we will once again roll over and let them tickle our soft underbelly as we capitulate to a 2-0 defeat with a performance that will touch a new level of ineptitude. I just feel sorry for Henry Jnr.
  • [cite]Posted By: LargeAddick[/cite] I just feel sorry for Henry Jnr.

    So do i.

And the poor mite is being taken Southampton tomorrow as well....
  • 2-0 Southampton. Euell on the scoresheet.

Still, one of the last opportunities to see Championship football and possibly the last chance to play Southampton. A sad day.
  • 1-1, Zheng for us.
  • Yassin Moutaouakil or Grant Basey are other options for Parkinson in the full-back roles and there could even be a shout for young Chris Solly to feature at some point.

Scott Wagstaff is an outside possibility to be involved.

He won't throw them in just yet will he? A few games time and I could maybe see it happening.

What I don't understand is the point in Butterfield being here. We need Ward just because of a lack of centre backs, and arguably Kandol as none of the others strikers deserve to be starting at the moment.

Just checked and he's been here about a month now, so surely he can be sent back?

I knew that was coming but it still made me laugh.

Thankfully nature dealt him one good card - he looks like his mum : -)

He is also a Sixer at Cubs and last night his Six won the Award for Best Six so not just good looking but a natural leader.

I would be happy to see Solly make his debut and a few other young players come on as well.
  • Soton still have a chance of staying up & the prospect of administration hanging over the club will just fire everybody up. So 2-1 to them, sadly, but I'll be there to watch.

  • I can confidently predict that GHE & I will be smashed tomorrow.

We’re in my sisters boyfriends company box (free booze etc) His company are also sponsoring the game and I’m going out on the pitch with him before kick off for the presentation.

Not sure if my sis was having a laugh or not but she did mention that I’ll be making the MOM presentation in the players lounge after the game.

We’re staying the night and will be in a bar called “Dock Gate 4” in the evening if anyone’s about.
  • Saints 2-0 Charlton
  • something nil to them.

tbh, i wont even be watching jeff tomorrow. i'd rather watch the build up to, and the grand national.
  • not bothered in the slightest about the football, suspect we will cave in to a 2 or 3 - 0 defeat........I've given up this season as by the looks of it the players did a long time ago.
  • I haven't seen Charlton lose for more than 3 seasons - we were still in the Prem and Curbs was our manager.
If only I hadn't missed a match all season......

Unfortunately I can't make it tomorrow.

    ;o)

Aha, the truth is out, it is all your fault!
  • 2-1 southampton

    sorry
  • Administrator on SSN just said Southampton have sold 24k home tickets already for todays game.
  • Saints are at least playing for their Championship survival, if not their whole future.
Anything other than victory is not an option, and I fancy what resolve we have will eventually cave in. 3-0 to Saints and I'll be there to see it. Woohoo!
(Was I the only one to predict the Preston 0-0 correctly, btw?)

Incredibly, Bing ........ we haven't even lost any of the matches I've seen us play this season.

    Bad season?
    Bottom of the table?

    Nah, all in your imagination.

    ;o)
