[cite]Posted By: matt_himself[/cite]It's not odd. Butts, whilst being a bit of a folk hero, is old, slow, injury prone and a bit of liability these days. He has been replaced at rightback by Nat Clyne and has no chance of getting his place back.
Whilst you may have a little fantasy that this is the 'beginning of the end' for us, it is not.
I am very surprised that a Championship side have taken him on loan.
A long way past the "beginning of the end" I'm afraid. The beginning was Jordan not getting the freehold of Selhurst. Pawning the big screen to pay for the Xmas party and charging all the player contracts and other few assets to Mr Portillo's off shore banking business are the middle of the end.
The end of the end can't be far away now but you have the relegation of the team you really hate (Brighton that is, you don't care about us do you) to look forward to.
Five-foot-11 Butterfield went on make a total of 145 appearances for the Mariners before switching to Palace, where he played alongside current Charlton centre-halves Mark Hudson and Darren Ward as well as Tom Soares.
Expect a former Palace left back to sign on loan soon.
[cite]Posted By: Valley McMoist[/cite]My work colleague says Butterfield is a Palace legend and his reaction to his signing was....WHAT. I don't believe it.
Don't know much about Butterfield, seem popular enough at Palace but we need someone more committed to Charlton than Moo2 who doesn't want to know and has made plenty of defensive mistakes. Is that Butterfield? Don't know. At least he will know Hudson, Ward and Soares.
So why are Palace letting him go out on loan. Must be desperate to get his wages of their ever increasing debt burden but still.

Well looking at one of your forums (cpfc.org), you seem to be firmly in the minority with that opinion. One quote that stood out for me though was this:
"Many on hear took the p*ss out of Charlton for nearing administration and yet they've signed a second player that we've been forced to release because of our financial circumstances."
[cite]Posted By: Henry Irving[/cite]we need someone more committed to Charlton than Moo2 who doesn't want to know and has made plenty of defensive mistakes.
Just noticed this. Moo2 was committed to us and would have been if he got a run in the side, and kept his place after we won and kept a clean sheet. Probably had enough of being left out by now though.

Maybe true and maybe he didn't show in training that he wanted it enough.
Either way he don't want to know now so should be left to train with the kids and be sold in the summer IMHO

He was superb in our promotion season in 03/04 but was sadly ruled out for most of the Premiership season. After that he never really looked the same which was a shame because he's always been a decent pro and a top bloke as well.
Very surprised we've let him go though but it must mean we're close to getting a player with more importance (a bloody striker). Nat Clyne's been superb since he's come in at RB and he's only 17 so that can tell you the type of player we've got if an experienced Butterfield can't force his way back in, it does leave us short on numbers though.
Overall, not a bad signing. I think Murty is actually a better player albeit a lot older. He's got a very good cross on him when he's not having a stinker. One of his biggest weaknesses is he doesn't ever tend to man mark and if teams get the ball out left quick enough he's usually given us a problem.
Like someone said though, we had the best defensive record last season so maybe we're overly harsh on him but he's definitely not the player he was before his injuries sadly.
Murty is injured and has been sent back to Reading so we need someone quick.
Is Butterfield the answer - hopefully, he's experienced enough. I guess Palace want him off their wages and will take the risk that their RB doesn't get injured or suspended over the next 28 days. All in all a decent signing on paper.
A guy I work with has just emailed me and said he's just had their bulletin email through stating that "Palace have to play seven games in the next 21 days, including away trips to Burnley, Swansea and Barnsley in the space of a week" and adding that theyve only scored four league goals since Boxing Day, three of which were against Plymouth.
With them bottomish of the form table, a threadbare squad, and the teams toward the bottom starting to hit a bit of form would it be wrong of me to suggest that rather at looking at the Forest / Soton / Barnsley / Watford results that we should be looking further up toward mid-table for the teams to catch?
Given this run I would assume that financial issues at Smellhurst are a little worse than Tango may care to admit.

Whilst I can't deny our financial situation is precarious, we've just signed Anthony Stokes on loan from Sunderland which I'm pretty happy with.
He hasn't lived up to the hype from his Falkirk loan spell but we desperately need a striker. I don't think we'll go down but we seriously need to start scoring and for some reason I can actually see us winning tomorrow night!
So Palace have released a senior player on loan to Charlton to free up his wages to pay for a Sunderland reserve striker who didn't make the grade at Sheffield Unted.
Basically Jordan is not spending another penny on CPFC until he can get rid in the summer.
Worrying times for our stripey friends, who are obviously looking over their shoulders. I hope the first mortgage payment on the Jumbotron is made this week.
As much as I like Danny, his performances aren't as good as they were a couple of years ago, and if his release has enabled us to get Stokes in, it seems a good move to me. Although I must admit our squad is threadbare at the moment, and ideally Butts could have been kept for cover, our biggest problem is scoring goals, and so Stokes could be vital.
As far as your needs go, Butts will be a good player, but if he comes against anyone with pace, you could find yourselves with a problem, as unfortunately thats what he lost in last 2 or 3 years.
The club did well to act quickly in light of the Murty situation (shame - he did well for us and we might miss him; props to a 100% professional, though)
Beggars can't be choosers, and the thought of Yassin sulking about the pitch doesn't fill me with joy I must say!
Can't sat I'm unhappy with this, rules out Cranie which is a plus but its a shame that this definatly means Yassin is unfancied and will surely move on in the summer, my Palace mate says its a great signing and like many have said couldn't believed he has chosen to come to us despite playing regular 1st XI football, so well done Parky
So Palace have got Stokes in, the player who said he was signing for us, but at the last minute joined Sunderland and his idol Roy Keane. You can't blame a kid for following his heart, I suppose.
Butts sounds like a decent aquisition, plenty of experience but as our Nigel friends suggest, maybe lost some pace.
He sounds a big-hearted player, works hard, gives 100% and likes a laugh - good for the team and good for the dressing room. Just what we need to keep spirits up.
No doubt our ex-Palace boys keep in touch with some of their old team mates.
He might have leaked a plea of come and get me to someone like Hudson, tipping off Parky that he was available.
Or do I read too much into old mates networks ...? lol
The rumours on the Palace sites suggest that Parky was after another Palace player, but Warnock persuaded him to take Butts instead. The player been suggested is Lawrence, who if it is true, you can count yourselves very lucky.

Granville or Tony Craig?
Same reaction here
Not so bothered on here though.
They've got that young RB Nathaniel Clyne coming through, maybe they're going to use him and make room on the wage bill for another position on loan?

Fair enough, got to balance the books. I guess the test will be if they actually bring someone in.
Sold Watson for £1m plus add ons but didn't bring anyone new in with the money.
Anyway last right back with a palace connection was Chris Powell. He was a bit slow but did OK for us : - )
Maybe true and maybe he didn't show in training that he wanted it enough.

Yeah I'm sure he will be sold, especially if Parkinson is still here, which he most likely will be.
What a tacky forum.

he said he is a decent player but has serious doubts about his ability to stay fit.
That's OK, only need him for 12 more games : - )
*adds gag about our defending*

Burnt his bridges I think, but even with Yassin we need cover in defence.

A fair assumption to make...which means we are helping Palace in their hour of financial need!
