Arsenal Tickets Allocation

  • new ground alert for some at bramall lane.... i think if you added up what is brought to all away games it'd be out of us and fulham who had the worst support and we are better situated to get to games than boro and blackburn....i bet whatever we take to boro and blackburn they'll bring more to us
  • london based fans make their numbers up,we don't have that many charlton fans moving to blackburn.
  • away support is away support... they still count as away fans wherever they're from and we don't have many
  • Inspector, do you have a source on the "keep your ticket" stubs reference for me to follow up?

I did suggest a loyalty scheme linked to away ticket purchases but it was felt that it would create a lot of additional work and admin (as Southend says you would have to list every purchaser) and would be necessary for only a very few games. Also the new IT system is still being bedded in.

However I'd like to raise the issue again as with the new IT system it should be possible to log all the necessary info and more. The issue is about priorities and best use of limited resources.

The smart card issue is separate. You don't need a smart card system to have a loyalty scheme. Reading showed that such systems can become too complicated and are very expensive to set up.
  • I'm a Valley golder but I think people who frequently travel away should get priority
  • My old man is a Valley Golder and doesnt go to many away games but games that he wants to go he knows he can get tickets.

Paying £120 for this privilege is a substantial amount in my opinion and at least it is giving something back to our club rather than lining the pockets of our Premiership rivals by going to a lot of away games to be guaranteed a ticket for the more desireable games
  • sure, and he would get a ticket more than likely, just after more frequent away traveller.
  • I can not understand how someone who can afford to be a frequent away traveller can't afford £10 a month.

£10 a month is nothing these days (even for us lowly paid Civil Servants), and if it gives you ticket priority and the chance of a prize then surely it is worth paying. I am bored of people bleating on about not being able to get tickets for the big away games, when a reasonable system is in place which will give them priority.
  • And puts money back into OUR club 1905 which i think is the most important thing.

People seem to think VG is you just throwing money away and you don't get anything for it.
  • Henry I recall that the web site and probably the programme had something about it see attached link

    http://www.charlton-athletic.co.uk/newsview.ink?nid=29670&newstype=t

This relates to the Fulham game and I recall the Villa one too

  • I already put money into charlton by buying a season ticket, merchandise, home cup games.

I also follow charlton to at least three quarters of their away games in a season in the league and in the cup.

I don't think its unreasonable to expect a ticket for a high priority game, without having to pay £10 a month privilige
  • If you can afford all of that Suzi then you shouldn't even notice another £10 measly quid a month.
  • to be honest, if i paid £10 a month for valley gold, then i'd have to go to at least 2 less away games a season on balance.

also why pay £120 for something that i'd only benefit from once a season?

I choose to keep that £120 and go to 2 away games a season and support my club on their travels ahead when valley gold holders don't take up the allocation

thats the way i see it, i think those that travel to support their club should benefit from it somehow when it is needed
  • I'm not having a pop or anything Suzi at all, i just think those people who choose to pay the £10 a month should be able to enjoy the benefits in paying into a valued and worthwhile scheme.

I'm not saying that this should be at the expense of those who follow Charlton at away games up and down the country but the disdain shown by some because VGers can get away tickets is a bit out of order in my opinion.
  • Henry - this is the recent reference to tickets: http://www.cafc.co.uk/newsview.ink?nid=30082
Acting commercial director Steve Sutherland said: "As we have stated before this season, we are trying to give priority to those fans who regularly follow the club away from home.

"We have been urging supporters to save their tickets stubs from away matches, and those that have will receive greater priority when purchasing tickets for the more popular games, such as Arsenal."

I remember a reference to Villa tickets when they went on sale, but can't find it on the OS for the life of me. Lat's Fulham one is the first I've seen it. Haven't seen any references for ANY other away game.

Seriously, if you're going to tell people to keep their stubs, then do it properly. Stick it on the "tickets" page of the website, and stick it on the same page in the programme. It's not hard if you're competent.
  • yeah, and i'm not saying that those that pay £10 shouldn't get a priority. i just think the two ways are both valid reasons for joint priority.

there are games in the past that i have had difficulty getting tickets for, and know people that couldn't even go, when they'll be at boro away on 23rd december. thats not fair, and to suggest they should pay £10 a month to get that priority when 15 games at least a season they could walk up and buy their ticket on the door i think it slightly outrageous.
  • I did toy with going into Valley Gold, then thought...

    1) I'd be paying £120 to secure a seat at one or two matches at most.
    2) I only know one other person in Valley Gold, so I'd still have to wait for my regular ST-holding mates to catch up.
    3) The usual stuff about whether the academy's taken seriously (etc).
  • "also why pay £120 for something that i'd only benefit from once a season? "

I treat it as a type of insurance policy - which has a very slim chance of maturing through a prize.

Also I would never be able to go to my bank account and think "oh there is that £120 that I have saved from not buying VG, I can now go to another away game or two". It leaves my account totally unnoticed.

I have done the core of my away travel in my younger years. Season after season after season on Lewis coaches. I still hit the moterway a few times a season but because my personal circumstances have changed I shouldn't be excluded from the big cup ties.

Anyway more important things, my turn for the mince pies against Liverpool :-)
  • I think ultimately what comes from this debate is:

The club needs to sort something out.

thats cool, but neither should those that have been to all the small away cup ties for the whole season.

i know you're vg and were at chesterfield. but would it be fair if i didn't get a ticket for the semi final as i was there aswell??

excellent! you baking them yourself? remember there are a lot people coming down so you'll have to bake plenty :-)

  • you wont get a ticket Suzi and rightly so.

    You're not a Wycombe ST holder. ;-)
  • I signed up for VG 6 years ago, as insurance on away games in the first couple of seasons, and have left it running for those times when I need it since.

As 1905 said, it's such a small amount of money, but it gets me money off my season ticket, nice discount in the shop and the tickets when need.

But I would still move to a points system, VG members would get extra points as a sign of loyality to the club, but then if they don't add to it, they get a lower chance of tickets as the season goes along.

    Sounds fair to me
  • I agree Rothko.

VG Membership isnt just a scheme to guarantee away tickets like some people may think it is, maybe the benefits of VG need to be bigged up more!

(more than Steve Gritt on the big screen!)
  • [cite]Posted By: WestStandSinger[/cite]I agree Rothko.

the ability to get an away ticket before regular away fans is disproportianate. I'm not against VG getting prioity over other season ticket holders just not above those that actually go to the away games spending hundreds of pounds supporting the team. They should have priority first over all others then VG then other season ticket holders. A scheme for this isn't rocket science and I thought the new Platinum cards and new membership numbers were to cover this.
  • I agree with that Large totally and the club needs to sort it. The point i think myself, 1905 and others is trying to get across is that VG members who don't go to x amount of away games should not be criticised if they do want tickets for certain away games.

This is obviously a Charlton issue and something that all of us have strong opinions on, hopefully it will be sorted sooner rather than later.

I'm not even a VG member!!
  • also like inspector says
if i joined valley gold, les isn't a member, either is pickering or buckshee, or other people i go to charlton with, so i'd have to sit on me own if i got my ticket straight away
  • [cite]Posted By: WestStandSinger[/cite]I'm not even a VG member!!

and i'm not even sure i can go to arsenal on the 2nd!!! :-)
  • This is Charlton though, it'd be like nuclear science to them, not just plain old rocket science.

Not disputing the validity of Valley Gold membership, although its more recent benefits have been producing players for League and Conference clubs.

But in the long term we need a loyalty system to run alongside Valley Gold (where VG membership doesn't guarantee you beat people who'll go to Boro on the last Saturday before Christmas), and in the short term we need an explicit "save your stubs" policy so people know where they stand. Otherwise people rightly get pissed off.

Over my pret christmas sarnie, I think we might have a points system

VG Members get 200 points to start, and then 25 points per season if they renew, if they don't, they lose the points.

Then 100 for ST holders (25 on renewal), 50 (15 on renewal)for Platinum members.

Then 10 points for home cup games, 10 points for away London derbys, 20 points for Midlands and south coast games, 30 for Yorkshire and NW, and 40 for NE.

Add 15 for away Evening games or 12.15/5.15 Kick offs.

Simple system, people know where they stand and their levels.

Then for big games you bring the system in.

So Arsenal people with 500 points get first dibs, then 400, then 250, then general sale.

    Whatca think?

I'm not criticising those VG's who want to go to the odd away or two, the more the merrier, just that they shouldn't get priority over regulars.

me too Sooz. I'm VG but get tickets with six others of whom only one other is VG so I wait anyway till we can get them all together.
