Yes. The promotion clincher vs PNE game in '75 sticks in the memory - fantastic atmosphere that night.
That season we scored 51 goals at home, the most in the division. We also conceded 29, which was the joint 2nd worst. Tells you a lot about Andy Nelson's footballing philosophy - never a dull moment!
I was a season ticket holder at the time (courtesy of my Dad) and to me it was the most exciting period of supporting Charlton - you never knew whether we were going to win 4-2, 5-3 or 6-1.Being in the old West Stand for the Preston match with the after match celebrations was very much the highlight.
I think I remember the Chester City game. Didn't someone obscure score the goal? Or, am I mixing this game up with something else? I've been agonising for over 30 minutes trying to remember.
Yep, all the way from 1972, had some great times, some great punch-ups and a good laugh.....but I don't want to go back, give me the Premiership every time. I'm getting on a bit now...oh, bring back terracing though

We were Div 2 at that time. I think the game was a league cup match. may have been 1976/77. Anyway I was there. And I've seen us play Div 3 football. Real football not plastic prem.[/quote]
Just a couple of memories of Div.3 (1972/73) Not realising that Port Vale isn't an actual place and driving round Stoke looking for it. Having eventually arrived, going into a local Burslem hostelry nattily attired in brown leather safari jacket and flairs and realising that the clientele were all in flat caps and boiler suits and playing dominoes: one of those times (in westerns) when the piano stops playing, it all goes quiet and everybody stares. Since that time I have never gone into a strange pub on my own without a prop of some sort e.g newspaper/magazine. At Scunthorpe (the Old Showground) they didn't kick off 'til 3.15 when the steelworkers, who worked Saturday mornings, turned out of the big pub opposite the ground. We were persuaded by the gateman to part with an extra shilling to transfer to the extremely rickety stand. It was on this trip that Bob Curtis bought us a pint when we bumped into the team in a pub en route. Nearly running Bobby Moore over at Newport Pagnell services on the way to Rotherham : he was standing on the slip road waiting for his team coach when I came bowling along. Went back to apologise and had a chat: a real gent!

I remember going up to Port Vale in driving snow only to find it had been postponed when we arrived. It took us an eternity to get there and an eternity to get home. No toilets on Lewis's coaches in those days. You used to have to pee in a beer can.

Or pee in a carrier bag and get the driver to open the door so you can throw it out. LOL
Covered end: yes, it was around 12.00/12.30 at a hotel/pub between Lincoln and Scunthorpe. Bobby C. was on halves: he scored a penalty that afternoon and Peacock got the other one in a 2-0 win.

Can we have a poll AFKA as to which pub the players will be drinking in tommorow lunch time?

Also remember the 6-2 Southampton game which was 1976 on a Friday night. I think even Phil Warman scored with a diving header.
The 1980-81 3rd division season was quality with the likes of Johns, Shaw, Berry, Hales and Walsh. Promotion and a great cup run
That was in the real Div II though, Dugdale.
;o)
Edit: Just seen your previous post now. Sorry.

Can't believe no one has commented on this. I'd like to think that this was at about midday on the day of the game.
Pwopper footballers in them days :-)

3-0 I think at Sealand Road.

4-0 in fact
We won 1 - 0 at the Valley with "obscure" scorer *Hales (pen)* so Maylasia Addick must be thinking of another game.
Score v Newport at home was 3-0. They are now in the Conference South with Welling and Bromley.
