[cite]Posted By: LenGlover[/cite]Whilst I can understand and empathise with the reservations some have about Parky the more I learn about him the more I like him.
Think that's where I get the feeling he might turn it around eventually. Will probably be next season in League One though.
Just going to be very hard for him to get much quality in at the moment.
Murts and Parky are ex-team mates and obviously buddies still.
There's a behind the scenes calling in of a favour here, me thinks, and Murty has come here because of Parky.
Parky knows this guy inside out and trusts him to turn in a performance, and help out in the dressing room and on the park.

And, being well over thirty and just back from a long injury lay-off, he also fits the bill of only being any good for the first 60 minutes...
"Phil Parkinson is such a cult figure at Reading that they still sing songs about him at away matches, and I see that he’s just taken fellow battler (and ageing crock) Graeme Murty on loan , so that’s you pretty much doomed, Nigel. There are lessons to be learnt from Charlton for every supposed ‘model’ club - I always thought they might be more Curbishley Athletic than Charlton Athletic just as I fear that Coppell FC is but a passing phenomenon in our part of the world.
There are some improving teams down there (Forest, Barnsley, Doncaster) so can Charlton join the improvers? If they play with the spirit and drive their manager possessed as a player, they might just do it – but that was in what is now League One, his natural level as both a player and manager?"
Murty - Tough battling right back - Just what we need IMO (assuming he is fit) Mootoo - Quick, talented, can cross - just what we need for a winger IMO Sam - Quick, talented, improving his crossing - move him to left wing Bouazza - off to Brummie

Right, someone on here wanted the opinion of a Reading supporter, so I thought I'd enlighten you. First the boring bit - Reading supporter for 20+ years, seen us through the dog sh*t years and latterly through our glory years. Season ticket holder and get to a fair few away games.
Anyways. Murty is an outstanding full-back. He's not only solid and a leader, he's probably got one of the best football brains at the club. If you have a decent right winger he'll link up nicely with them, get forward and get decent balls into the front men.
He is along with a few other players, one of the catalysts for where we are today. A winner and a decent footballer.
Reading Parky's comments, it looks like there may be a hint of a longer term spell with your lot. Basically all the time we have Leroy Rosenior fit, he aint gonna get a game, so I'd expect to see this extended with some sort of recall clause.
Only reservation if I was an Addick would be whether or not he'll do a hammy or a calf early doors. He can step straight into the side and do a job for you for the 3/4 games as long as he stays fit.
If I was you I'd be absolutely delighted with this signing, albeit potentially short term. Frankly I'm shocked he's gone out on loan after 10 years at the club.
FYI he joined us as a right winger from York City, and loves to bomb on down the wing because of this. Converted to full back when he came back from a massive injury and was out for what seemed like years. One of our top boys first year round in the Prem.
And just a note about Parky. The guy is a legend, who needs to be afforded the luxury of being given a club where he can really build. A measure of the guy is that not long after he'd left the club after 10+ years, we got into a play-off semi vs Wigan and he was invited back to hte club by Pards to get the lads going and gee them up.
He will see you right ig he gets the chance to a) bring you back up if you get relegated or b) has a season to consolidate if he keeps you up.
That's probably more info than you could be arsed to read but there ya go.
Good luck rest of the season, any time you wanna send Andy Gray our way we'll gladly have him off ya.
''any time you wanna send Andy Gray our way we'll gladly have him off ya.''
Can we swap you for Lita? Nice post , FG, and thanks for taking the trouble.
I've always rated Murty. But I think the stuff we're hearing about Parky from Reading fans such as yourself is encouraging a few of us as well. If you look back a bit, you will see I quoted from a message sent to me by a Reading friend (Con Murphy - don't suppose you know him?) saying that the away support to this day still sings songs to the legend of Mr Parky in his playing days...
happy with this one...... moo2 stick him with the long list of crap players we try and make out are good cos they're at our team, so farking many of them here and been thru here in recent times it's embarrassing hence our current predicament
I am sorry to say it because Mouataokil is clearly a good footballer but he will never make it as a CCC defender.
Firstly, he is terrible in the air, he's only a little bloke and when a big centre forward pulls off the centre-half and goes up against him he has no chance.
Secondly, he is not a natural defender because he is that worst of all species - a ball watcher. Look at Norwich's goal on Saturday, he got sucked towards the man with the ball - who was already covered - and left Lupoli in acres of space.
He is very good going forward, no doubt about that, but his defensive work in this league where SO many crosses come into the box and much of the defending is about getting in blocks and tackles is just not good enough.
Thanks for that Mr. Pardew, that's another great signing.
If only we'd not been so proper and not taken Colchester's No for a No. Maybe Parky would have come in instead of Dowie and had the money and time to build a team.
I am Happy with Murty i have over the last 5 years thought what a top guy and footballer he has turned into. and is much in the same vein as Sir Matt, doesnt moan or kick up a fuss puts the club b4 himself and does a lot of work within the club and the community he is the sort of player i love having at our club.
I have a feeling there will be an old pals act with Parky and that once proven fit he will stay a bit longer. I have dropped a line to my work contact at Reading to try to dig some more on the deal and i will report back.
I think the important thing is to read what someone away from Charlton feel about the appointment of Parky, the problem being Reading Love Parky and others that have post are taking glory in our demise so there is nothing without biase.
i would suggest that had kins taken a team on in our position and he signed a younger chrissy powell or stevie brown we would say the same
What i will add is there is a lot of sound sensible footie fan advice in this quote,
He will see you right ig he gets the chance to a) bring you back up if you get relegated or b) has a season to consolidate if he keeps you up.
but when the shoe is on someone elses foot it is easier to say and see
i just hope that he is right because what we do need is stability we can not keep changing the mgmt of this team or oblivion we will find if we do go down i dont see the point of getting rid of parky as a result.
i still dont think he is the man and i havent changed my opinion on him i am just trying to find a solution in my head as to what the beep (not swearing) to do about it if we are relegated
I like the way the guy speaks of his own game and that of parky. i would like 1 more in for the weekend but it's not likely to happen lets hope there is enough fight and determination on saturday to pull of the result we so desperately need!!
"Reading only have 1 reserve fixture over the next month so I have no chance of gettin match fit without going our on loan, obviously it will be a great honour to work under phil and hopefully I can help"
look I thought we should have got a new man in,but after the financial difficulties have really come to light,we had no choice.I love this club to death and I think div 1 is inevitable, but if we do go down,i think we need stability and Parky will give us that.We are going to have to re-build again so let's get on with it.
"Reading only have 1 reserve fixture over the next month so I have no chance of gettin match fit without going our on loan, obviously it will be a great honour to work under Phil and hopefully I can help"
I think he's the kind of bloke that is incapable of giving less than 100 per cent. But reading that quote, it's pretty clear he sees it as him playing for his mate Phil , not for the club.
Which is fine because they are effectively one and the same. But he might have made an effort to mention Charlton somewhere !
Nor does it sound like he plans on hanging around after his training programme with us is finished. Which again, you have to say is fair enough, because he's not just some old journeyman full-back. He's still the Reading club captain, isn't he ? Obviously, he want to be back there , lending his grit and leadership qualities in the final run-in of their promotion push. Not only don't I blame him, but his loyalty to his club is wholly commendable.
"I have come here to play and my main goal is to perform well and help Charlton out."
I commentated on the Charlton v Reading game for Sky at the beginning of the season, and because of that I was so surprised seeing the results because I know what this team is capable of. That is the level of performance we are going to need to get us out of this

Sorry, I must not be so pessimistic.
Thank You
;o)
We have signed the wrong Murty! The one we have is a non-league striker from Braintree Town, been banging them in for fun...
If only Pardew was still here, he would have been on trial and signed for us by now.

Mootoo - Quick, talented, can cross - just what we need for a winger IMO
Sam - Quick, talented, improving his crossing - move him to left wing
Bouazza - off to Brummie
Sorted.
Could work that.
Reading the interview with him on the official site, though, it doesn't sound like he will be here for more than a month.

Well put, mate - and good to hear from a fan of another club, who can put together a post in a thoughtful and constructive way.

First rule: defenders have to defend, and defend well. Much as I like Moo2, that's not his strength.
Who knows? Sack the board anyway : - )

Both favourites at their main clubs, they want to get back into the team and we give them the games to help them get match fit.
