[cite]Posted By: Ketman[/cite]Not that I agree with this particular signing as priorities lie elsewhere in the team, we need leaders out on the pitch, I expect to see pretty much every player we sign this window to be in this mould. We need to get stuck in if we are to have any chance of staying up. I would even consider playing Mootakill instead of Sam, not ideal but worth considering.
Wholeheartedly agree about Moo2 as I said the same Saturday. I think he would do a fine job at right midfield.
[cite]Posted By: Goonerhater[/cite]WSS to quote Blackadder " have you ever visited planet earth sir"
Why? Let's put it this way - QPR have scored the same number of goals as us and sitting in 9th place 3 points off of the playoffs. Why is this? because they have only conceded 26 goals and we have conceded 45.
Understand WSS's point, but agree with GH that a goalscorer, or a striker that is going to get behind a defence is our priority.
Don't actually know too much about Murty, but am not disatisfied about this. The next month if goes wrong will decide our season, so bring bringing in an experienced player ticks the right boxes. With Murty and McEverley, our stall is set to add more aggression defensively.
Have no issue in signing loans at this point, they are not the evil people make out they are. It says 'initial' so if it goes well, it would appear the door is open to extend. I think given the fear of relegation the last thing we want is signing players on contracts we have to carry over into next season.
Very concerned about the out for 8 months bit, not so much the fitness stage, but more the possibility of him picking up other knocks and strains in this weather trying to push his fitness. Bbut if there is a position best to come back from a long-term injury its probably full back. Will make a fuller judgement after Saturday, but initial feeling is good signing, but still need more to make a difference.

I tend to agree with this. I think the difference between us and a number of teams isn't that great or insurmountable. We need someone at the back with experience to organise things, and Murty does seem like this type of player. He is after all the captain at Reading. However, how long will he be here for? A month is short, but the SLP quote says, 'initially for a month', so who knows?
I've always liked Murty - he's a solid player and a strong character with a dose of intelligence (whenever I've seen him as a pundit he's reminded me of Matt Holland). I hope it will work out, but share reservations re him coming back from injury and it only being for a month. I feel sorry for Moo2, but he does let us down too often really.
Should be solid, but being realistic he's here to get fit and hoping he can get back into Reading's team.
We're hoping his experience, leadership and determination to win will help and improve our team.
Moutaouakil must be very frustrated, that's four right backs we've had on loan in 1 1/2 seasons I think. Don't blame him if he leaves, he'll never improve if he doesn't get enough games.
He might make mistakes defensively, but so do most of the team. He adds something in attack, even if it's just winning a corner any other right back would never win.
That keeps us on the attack, and stops the other team having the ball.
From parkys comments on the OS its clear he wants permanant signings like the rest of us. He knows we need to tighten the defence this may only be a stop gap but its an immediate one to buy some brething space. If we had gone through till the end of the month and not got our targets people would moan lack of activity.
Moo2 imo is Shocking defensivly i have never said anything other than that on here i couldnt give two toots (still not sworn) if he never plays for us again.
I larf when i here he is a premier league player not Chumpionship if we as in the prem he would be blinding what a load of Tosh Pardew said that he signed him for us for when we get to the prem.
I am over the moon with Murty he is a great player and he is not an over paid pre madonna who doesnt give a poop (nearly swore)
Moots has done what to convince you otherwise, where is this exceptional young full back he doesnt exist.
it is another reason to moan about the state of the club , we are in trouble murty will not let us down i am 99% sure of that.
we are in financial trouble lets not forget that we can not do business in this league too the level that some of you seem to think, we are going to get loans and older players in
our back 4 wouldnt look to sad if it was Mcevely Holland Forts Murty.
From what i have heard Holland was outstanding at CH on saturday maybe that has saved us looking for a Centre Half, I have heard that ZZ will NOT be going in this window unless it is a ridiculous offer that may not be true but it may be so there is the attacking midfielder we could do with.
as for a Centre forward there has been one at the training ground who may be coming i dont know how good he may be as i havent been told his name but if the singings are like Murty than i am more than happy i just wish we could attract them on a fulltime contract but we cant
Henry, there's a reason nobody cares about Youga - he's an absolute waste of space. no ability and a terrible attitude
anybody who knows even the slightest thing about football can see that
Moo2 seems to divide opinion. Like a lot of people, I'm a fan. He's got pace and ability and likes to get forward and overlap - essential attributes from full-backs, especially at home.
He may have a few weaknesses defensively but if a full-back makes a mistake both the centre-half and the goalkeeper can redeem them (how many times did Rufus and Kiely do that over the years)
Murty seems a decent signing but Moo2 is one of the few players I genuinely look forward to seeing a red shirt (Shelvey and Dickson probably the only other two in the current squad)

Disagree about Youga's ability (I think he is as in and out as Moo2) and how do we know he has a terrible attitude while Moo2 doesn't. Maybe that is why Moo2 does feature more? or maybe he's just not good enough?
My point wasn't that either was a good or bad player but rather that it is a double standard to say it's OK to upset a player someone doesn't like but not someone we do like. Surely the nature of pro football is that players have to fight for the 11 starting places and some will always miss out.
Youga has ability, not quite as good as Moutaouakil, but we've seen both of them have good games for us. Both not the greatest defensively but their pace going forward is very useful at home.
Back to Murty, be interested in feedback from any Reading reading.
This seems similar to me as when Kinsella left for Villa. Club legend, coming to the end of his days, sad to see him go, but knew that age and injuries had taken the toll on him, and he was never able to recreate his best form, though still a trier ?
Lets not forget that as a former longstanding Reading player himself Parky will know Murty well so this will hopefully prove a decent use of a loan for once.
I would imagine that Murty has the personal qualities to get stuck in and graft, unlike some other loanees we have had, otherwise Parky probably wouldn't have bothered.
I think we need a bit of british steel now, Moots etc are good players but they lack the strange ingredients needed for a blood and guts division. We need to win the fight to play the ball. Murty can help for the month he is here and if we add a few more experienced heads we may just claw ourselves back to at least a respectable relegation
From the Reading forum, this is what one poster things about Murty AND Parky:
"Whatever Charlton fans may think now, they will soon come to realise that, good or bad, Murts will always give 110%.
My gut feeling is that he will do a good job provided he suffers no further injury set backs (particularly if/when The Addicks are up against Brum or The Dingles :P ) with the move possibly becoming permanent.
Whilst I would agree that even last season Graeme was starting to slip from his peak, it really is hard to comprehend why any Reading fan would struggle to like a man who, along with his new temporary manager, embodies so much of what has brought this club huge success over the last decade.
It's no coincidence that Murty and Parkinson are our only players from this era to be granted testimonials".
We can also deduce that Parky is also an absolute legend at Reading.
Comments
No one seems too worried about Kelly Youga not getting a chance because of McEverly.
Don't know much about Murty. Seems like a fighter and a leader which is good. Seems old and just back from injury which is bad.
Anyway not on the OS yet so not official ; -)
Wholeheartedly agree about Moo2 as I said the same Saturday. I think he would do a fine job at right midfield.
We need defenders who can defend, forwards who can score and then midfielders who can do a bit of both ...!
Simple

A very good stop gap imo

I dont think many will sign full time with the position we are in this is our major problem
