CHARLTON have signed Reading defender Graeme Murty on a month-long loan deal.
The experienced right-back is the Addicks' first addition of the January transfer window, and boss Phil Parkinson hopes the 34-year-old will have a big impact during his spell in South London.
"Graeme has the winning mentality that we are looking for and he has played in teams in this division that have won promotion," the Valley chief told the South London Press.
"We have signed him initially for a month and I am confident he will come in and have a really positive effect for us."
I'm gutted, what does the guy have to do? Why do we choose to alienate such a good quality player by signing a 34 year old on loan for a month and playing him instead?
I am really fecked off with the treatment of Moo2. On Saturday he got to the byline and won a few corners for us which Cranie has failed to do all season. Moo2 is no worse a defender than Cranie. I think Moo2 has been very harshly treated.
Not saying Murty isn't a bad signing but I feel we have really fecked up the careeer of a very promising kid and I wouldn't be surprised if he's off this window would would be a real shame imo.

Probably the one player we currently have I actually enjoy watching play. He makes mistakes but when he makes them runs down the touchline to put in the cross I expect something to happen :-(
As said, I wouldn't be surprised to see him go. Probably doesn't speak the language too well, little chance to play football, players continually being brought in ahead of him :-(
Credit where it's due - decent signing by Parky, IMO. I've always liked Murty, if only because we share the same birthplace : Saltburn, Yorkshire !
Apart from McClever, though, he does seem to favour age and experience over youthful promise, doesn't he? He's probably right in our current plight, but Gillespie, Burton and Murty I think have a combined age of 99 years between 'em...at least it suggests he's totally focussed on staying up (as we should be) and hasn't even started to think about rebuilding for life in div one (three) yet.
According to the Reading FC Website - Graham Murty - Reading Club Captain - played his first game at the weekend after 8 months out of action - cup tied and if this story is true then unavailable for the Norwich replay - played all of the game. Will we be getting him match fit for when he returns to Reading?
seems a strange period for a loan but I can see the need. Yassin is okay going forward but he doesn't appear to have the defensive basics nailed enough, and what we need more than anything is to stop conceding.
if Murty can help with that then good for him, and an older wiser head on the pitch is exactly what we need in my view.
Bit worried to hear he's been out for eight months. As I said, I've always liked him as a player. But if he's here to get match fit, then it's Linvoy P all over again, isn't it?
Not that I agree with this particular signing as priorities lie elsewhere in the team, we need leaders out on the pitch, I expect to see pretty much every player we sign this window to be in this mould. We need to get stuck in if we are to have any chance of staying up. I would even consider playing Mootakill instead of Sam, not ideal but worth considering.
let's say it is only for a month. He plays each game and then goes back to Reading. You then say to Moo2 that you are now the man we are relying on. What would you say. I'd say 'feck off Parky you are a twat'. Absolutely no man management skills at this Club. And by the way he is cup-tied as he played his only game of the season on Saturday. And what I wonder does that say about his fitness levels. May take him two games to get into the swing of things.
[cite]Posted By: Goonerhater[/cite]we need to score goals. We can draw all the 20 games nil nil and go down.
I beg to differ.
Especially at home. From 10th place down, only 3 people have scored more goals than us but we have conceded more than anyone in the league which is why we are bottom.
[cite]Posted By: adamtheaddick[/cite]another fecking loan!!! has waghorn gone back yet? think mcelevey should go back to as basey doing a good job, that would free up a few slots.
I personally don't think Waghorn is what we need right now, he'll be a good player one day but our situation isn't right for him. As for McEveley, he's a far better player than Basey

No surprise there then. Yassin is hated by the current regime.
But I actually think Murty could be good. He was Reading captain in the PL.

No help

Murty is experienced, gets stuck in and is a 100%.
Moo2 doesnt concentrate defensively for 90mins . . .
Good signing but wish it was for the rest of the season,
surely a month is faffing about again???

If we get our home form bang on we'll be fine.
Not happy with another loan signing though.

Good thing Moots apparently doesn't speak very good English, then, isn't it? !!!
