Charlton v Norwich - Poll, team news, match thread etc

edited January 2009 in General Charlton
Start of a euphoric run, more misery, or a draw leaving most average fans with serious fears that the Valley Gold brigade will snap up all 4,000 tickets for the midweek replay ?

How do you see it going ?

Withe McEverley and Waghorn ruled out, and Cranie back at Pompey, what sort of side do want to see / expect to see ?

  • Charlton win.

I'd like to see Shelvey and Yassin return and maybe Dickson given a start.
  • Whoever thinks Charlton will win, is nuts ... draw at best
  • This has got Draw written all over it. Some places are offering a very generous 9/4 on the draw. Will certainly be sticking it in one of my accumulators.

Neither team wants a draw, neither team wanted a draw last year when we played West Brom.

To be honest if I were in Parkinson's shoes and it is 0-0 with 2mins to go I'd be tempted to give the secret nod and instruct someone to lump it in our own net so we can get on with our march to Championship safety.

    ;-)
  • This is the one - this is the turning point

Norwich can't be arsed and we will remember this as the day Charlton came back

Mixture of youth and experience and Holland in there to protect Shelvey

    Elliot
    Moo2 - Hudson - Fortune - Basey or Youga
    Sam - Shelvey - Holland - Bouazza
    Ambrose (in the hole)
    Burton

    Sub
    Gray
    Dickson
    Weaver
    Christenson
    Bailey
    Solly
    Wright
  • It seems many, as do I, agree that Ambrose should play "in the hole" but I have lost faith in our management and coaches to do the things that most people see. I hope they give him a go he's good on the ball and can score a goal. I hope Shelvey gets a game.
  • Elliot

    Solly - Semedo - Fortune - Basey

Sam - Shelvey - Holland -Bouazza

    Dickson - Burton
  • Where has Todorov got to?

Would start him to see if he can last 90 minutes, he has got the best footballing brain out of the whole squad, just a shame he has no pace.

    Can't jump either

You can see he has class but I'd rather see Dicko given 90 mins

Dickson is on his way out though.

Would much rather see someone playing who will be here after the window is shut tbh.

  • I tihnk Dickson will start tomorrow FACT
  • You know so, AFKA ?
  • If we lose it will be mathematically impossible for us to qualify for europe.

Looking forward to it though, come on boys.
  • [cite]Posted By: Oggy Red[/cite]You know so, AFKA ?

Depends whether you want to concentrate on the 'think' or the 'fact' !

I think our line-up will surprise a few people tomorrow FACT

    :-)
  • You mind bender, AFKA , lol
  • [cite]Posted By: Oggy Red[/cite]You mind bender, AFKA , lol

    I think he's got a point - FACT

I think Dickson will start tomorrow too also - FACT

But this one no one can disagree with.

I think we are all crazy with our love of the only club in south london.... Locked on Fact

He's not there to win headers, he's not a target man or anything like that.

With our defenders EVERYONE is a target man since they seem to feel the midfielders are meants to be bypassed (Varyney up front on his own against Palace rings a bell!)

I have never seen the point in Toddy to be honest - yes he has a great brain but that much intelligence with our cloggers is as much use as tits on a fish
  • If Toddy hadn't had his knee screwed up last year, I think we would have made the play offs. He is the only player in our squad right now that has the ability to pick out a pass and create like Andy Reid used to do.

Its just a shame now, because I don't think its a matter of him being unfit, I just don't think he can physically run anymore due to the fact that he has no knees left!

Really annoys me when people have a moan at him for not running to close down or jumping because given the injuries he's had its a wonder he's still playing football.

It was a gamble to give him a new contract - and one that hasn't paid off, as yet anyway.

As for the team tomorrow, as long as Shelvey starts and there's a couple of other changes to see how fringe players do, I don't really mind.

I think it will be a draw.
  • Murray pissed on and then smashed my rose tinted glasses on wednesday when he appointed Parky as the permanent manager

    Narridge win!!!

I know what you mean, he'll be too intelligent for us if we go down when we're forced to sign a couple of Blue Square strikers.

He'll be released at the end of the season if he doesn't leave before then, even if we stay up I think.
  • Gray, Eliot and Hudson all doubtful due to injury.
  • Semedo might have to play centre back which means Moutaouakil will pretty much have to start. No mention of Solly so there aren't really any other options at right back. Surely not going to put someone like Youga or Holland there.
He said: "There's been a lot of pressure in recent league games, so it is a nice break and it also gives players who have been out of the team the chance to impress.

Glad he's looking at it like that, could have come out and said he'll play his strongest team.
  • Narrige are in as bad a position as we are team wise and financially. Leroy Lita has gone back to Reading (a fan was paying his wages) and they only have Lupoli as a recognised striker and he in on a year long loan.

This is where we turn the tide without the loan players.
  • Maglor, from the news in Parky's piece on the OS, we could be without more than 'just' the loan players!

"Rob Elliot, Andy Gray and Mark Hudson are all struggling with injury, while Darren Ambrose - back from a loan spell at Ipswich Town - could also miss out through illness"

Gray's absence shouldn't cause us much of a problem (!), but with Cranie and Primus gone back, we're a bit thin on the ground at centre-back without Hudson, despite his fallibilities. Aswad Thomas is back from loan, and could be an option, though the preview is citing Youga nd Semedo too. Might be too big a jump for Mambo.

Suppose he'll go with Weaver if Elliot's hip keeps him out, though I would prefer Randolph.

    Elliot/Randolph
    Moot2- A Thomas- Forts- Basey
    Sam- Holland- Shelvey- Bouazza
    Burton- Dickson
    ??
  • I'm pretty sure Thomas won't start. Bench at the very most for him or Mambo, not both of them. No mention of either of them on the OS, and young players are usually talked about in the previews when they're involved, like when Basey and Wright made their debuts.
  • "Darren Ambrose - back from a loan spell at Ipswich Town - could also miss out through illness"

is having to return to SE7 really that bad? Oh dear...

or perhaps they still entertain hopes of getting 250k for him from somewhere else and don't want him cup-tied...
  • Elliot

    Moo2 - Semedo - Fortune - Basey

    Sam - Holland - Shelvey - Bouazza
    Ambrose
    Dickson - Mcleod

    Subs.
    Weaver
    Youga
    Christensen
    Todorov
    Burton
  • We can name 7 subs tomorrow!
  • I sure am glad we are not playing a top notch team tomorrow.

    Weaver/Randolph
Moo2 Fortune Mamba Basey (Semedo can't head very well)
    Semedo
    Sam Holland Shelvey Bouazza
    Dickson
