  • [cite]Posted By: Chirpy Red[/cite]Just to put you all in the picture-AGAIN:
PP has the job till at least the end of the season.
AC was interested but we weren't.

Chirpy, not wanting to doubt you but wondering how that news stacks up, why then, have they not given Parky a one years contract (with an option to terminate at the end of the season) and called him "Manager" rather than "Caretaker Manager"?
  • Bing, why are the club going to offer a one years contract with an option to terminate?
At the moment the club have a qualified coach who wants the job.
  • I agree with Kap apart from his thoughts on Curbs, their seems to be very little interest in the premiership in him at the moment so he may have to settle for someone in the championship. Would he seriously consider Charlton? I would like to think he would and believe he could get us back on track if not let Parky have the chance to prove himself while we look at other possibilities.

[cite]Posted By: yung2368[/cite]i agree it's fair to give him a try. My question is: Do we have time to give him the chance

Sorry Yung But we do have the time as the last time we rushed things dowie/reed switch look what happened and then again with reed/pards.

    Should have been no inbetween.

My opinion for what it's worth, is that Curbs is waiting for one of the lower half Prem clubs to have a relegation panic - and call on him in the New Year to do a salvage job.

Boro or Blackburn maybe although I think the QPR job will come around again soon.

Just going to throw this in the ring and see what you think.

Warnock (now 60) packs it in and the new owners of Palace, having brought the club out of administration, want an experienced boss. Curbishley takes the job.

    How would you react?

My Curbs comment is more from his perspective than ours, if I was him I wouild be believing that I could hack it in the prem, after all I took an underfunded club to an established prem team and relegation threatened team to 4th in the Prem. Also, from Curbs perspective, in my view, Charlton is a 2-5 year project, if I was him i would not want that. maybe if Zabeel were still sniffing.

I'd be dissapointed, for the obvious reasons but also because I thnk Curbs can do better. It would finally cut his links with us, as far as I was concerned
  • Managers like players, are professional career people. Their CV says so.

Unfortunately they are not fans in the same way as we are - and their allegience is to the club that pays their wages.
    It's a job.

    ..............

With incredulity, I think Curbs will go to a club on the up if he ventures back into the Championship - QPR or Ipswich, or maybe Birmingham if they don't get promoted this season. I can't see him wanting to join a club with no money and fighting relegation, he's been there and done that.

As for Parky, I suspect the board wanted to see what interest there was from any candidates outside the club and give him two/three games to see if he could lift the team before making a decision. If he can get a draw at Blackpool or at least avoid last year's debacle then I think he'll get the job until the summer.

Yeah you are right, ignore my earlier comment I was being stupid!!
  • Whoever saw Parkinson play he was not laid back, he was bastard hard and no nonsense. Pretty much what we want our midfield to be
  • Parkinson may seem like the cheapest option and unlike Reed, he is not simply a coach, he has been a manager before, so he might be worth giving the job to until the end of the season, but only if results start to improve soon. He's already stamped his mark on the team and tried to improve in the areas that he saw as failing, so we have to give him credit for not following the Pardew template. However, he may not necessarily be the cheap option though, just because he's already on the payroll, doesn't mean that he will stay cheap - I mean, when you get promoted in any job, you expect more money in line with the requirements of the job, so why should he settle for a supposed lower wage if the club considers external job applicants with higher wage demands, backroom staffing requirements, etc. Don't forget that Parkinson may also want his own backroon staff too if he gets the job and we don't know how much they would potentially cost either.

I would still prefer a permanent manager to be named sooner rather than later though, be it Parkinson or not, so that whoever gets it can concentrate on getting us out of relegation trouble and push up that table.
  • Wasn't Geraint Williams his right hand man when he was at Colcvhester?

Might want to bring him in
  • I LOVE playing devils advocate- it seems my comments have sparked some reasoned debate. When I said tainted I did mean in the eyes of the fans. Personally I have nothing againt Parky and admit that I had never heard of him as a player so thanks for educating me. I would like to keep him on board but not as main man- I really think the fans need someone more charismatic which is why I champion Ollie. I still think that we need Chris Powell back somewhere in the management/coaching set up, thats what I meant by someone being CAFC through and through. I believe Pards didn't lose the dressing room as it seems to me that he got rid of the 'big' characters in the team by selling them or not taking them on permanently- The likes of Thatcher, Mills, Reid, Powell even Paddy McCarthy whom I thought really improved towards the end of last season- players with personality. I am not saying that the current crop haven't got any but they have been subdued by Pards and hopefully will be allowed to express themselves again. The biggest shake up though needs to be in our scouting system-we seem limited to non-league and U-21 tournaments. What about the Eastern European leagues- Hungary, Romania etc I am sure Toddy could point our scouts in the right direction. What about German, Dutch, Belgium leagues! Thats what I was impressed by with Ollies reign at Plymouth- his scouting network. We obviously haven't got the money to splash around so we should look further afield for our talent. I am still waiting for Dean Sinclair and Martin Christensen to get a go in the first team squad- why are they constantly over looked?

During our early days in the Prem, Curbs (remember him, lol) always made a point of doing much of his shopping amongst overseas players who could already speak fluent English or had proved themselves in British football already.

Jensen, Svensen, Johannesen, Di Cainio, Fish, Bartlett all immediately come to mind.

Perhaps, Kish was the obvious exception.
  • and Bagheri!
  • We cannot afford Curbs, we have not offered him anything although he let it be known he would do this season for a price.
The people who NOW run the club are happy with the status quo.
I am not saying it again.
  • Chirps - You've now said this twice whilst making no attempt to qualify it or back it up in any way. Could you please do so or risk it being dismissed as BS. Thanks

adamtheaddick, not every place in East St Louis like the picture you post. I guess you should go to hell with Irving as well.

So now its neither St Louis (which is in Missouri) nor "near East St Louis" as you previously said, but East St Louis itself?

    Ooooh yung man!!

Will we all be behind Parky if we lose tomorrow?

That would make it 1 point in 9

    I'd rather be pessimistic.
  • Then if we should lose, you'll be vindicated - with great satisfaction, you can tell everybody you were right.
    And slag off Parky.

    ;o)
  • I think the real problem for us Parkinson supporters tomorrow will be if we lose but played really well. I'll really be torn. In my mind I have given him till after Derby, but if we have no points after Coventry then I suppose I would bow to the Parkinson Outers
  • if we win and play shit , i'll be more than happy... it's all about the points on the board
  • Given how we played against Blackpool last year (or rather how the players didn't bother to play) I'd take a gallant defeat. Attitude and signs of the players being prepared to roll their sleeves up and fight are what I'd look for.
  • tick tick tick
  • [cite]Posted By: yung2368[/cite]Man, i so missed the glory Curbs' day... so-called boring football but 3 points.

Have OohAhh and Yung ever been seen in the same room before?

    ;-)
