Pardew quote in the Kent Messenger article: “Now, I want to bring in an offensive player because I believe the players would welcome the arrival of someone who is in a bit of form and who is capable of scoring a special goal."
Are we actually likely to get anyone in a 'bit of form', as surely their club would want to keep them? Surely the type of players we're looking at are those who are currently out of favour (ie with little form at all), a promising youngster, or someone from abroad.
Somone like Nugent would be great, but even then he'd need the odd decent bit of service, and that's partly where the current problems lie.
I heard Hermann maybe making a return, not getting a look in at Pompey at the moment...........Could give us the stability at the back we need! Can't think of the last time we kept a clean sheet! My choice would be.................Harewood from Villa
[cite]Posted By: golfaddick[/cite]Not H H - did the dirty on us when we got relegated.
certainly would boo him constantly if he ever set foot on our hallowed turf
I see what you're saying golfie but in the grand old scheme of things we had to cut the wage bill so players had to leave. HH was offered a deal before many of the others and took it up. Obviously horrible to see all the players jump ship and also so early but would you have prefered him to have stayed here do pre season be in the plans then leave on the last day of transfer window? At least him going early meant we has plenty of time to prepare for life without him. He had a clause and used it, what else are the clauses there for? If you had one in your job to the same effect I'm sure you'd take advantage of it too.
In short I've no problem with HH and would welcome him back.
He had it written in his contract that he could leave on a free if we got relegated. So, put yourself in his postion. Playing against Spurs he could make a goal saving atckle & keep us up.......or let it in and get a free transfer to wherever (Pompey) and get a large signing on fee.
Not saying he ever took that option but you must doubt his intentions when we had only a few games left and relegation was staring us in the face.
[cite]Posted By: golfaddick[/cite]Nothing to do with that.

I did wonder what on earth had got into his head when he came steaming in as a sub in the critical match v Sheff U and nearly got himself sent straight back off. I put it down to an overhyped dedication to the cause, but now Golfie puts it that way...;-)
I have gotta say im slightly disappointed we have reached tuesday night without any.It is imperative whoever comes has the chance to train and gel with the players before being thrown in at the deep end like has happened before.I was under the impression that fairly early last week he was given the go ahead and yet a week later nothing has materialised yet.I also think Harewood could do a good job for us.
But Steve, he'll be very aware that last year's loans were a steaming pile .... and he won't want to make that mistake again.
So he won't sign anybody just for the sake of it.
Current Prem players cost the earth in wages and don't really want to come down to the Championship.
Harte ? yep i guess some one struggling to get in a teams squad who are in a lower division than us is what we should expect, if we want to be relegated.
i'm hoping both man utd and arsenal go out of the league cup tonight, then fergie and arsen can lend us any promising youngsters that they planned to only use in that competition.
depends what type of player you are after.Established premier player on shite load of money who doesn't really want to come or young and hungry prem player not on a lot of money but with a point to prove.I know which one i would go after the kind of player Brum got promoted with and who Hull and Stoke took advantage of last season.
Whoever they are, please hurry up! We've got a big game on Saturday ...
No idea who they will be, but I fear they are unlikely to be the "someone who is in a bit of form and who is capable of scoring a special goal" Mr Pardew is talking about.
Why on earth would anybody fitting that description be available for loan rather than first-name-on-the-sheet at the club currently paying their wages? Unless, of course, we're not going for the tried and tested who can do a job as he promised last week, but are taking a punt on someone from the lower leagues again. Could he be possibly be talking about that Brighton striker?
I heard a rumor a few days back, that Stoke City Mifielder Glen Whelan will be loaned out in the January Transfer window and we were one of the names mentioned in the article.
Also Man City have loadsa strikers not getting game Sturrige,Vassel,Corodi,Benjani.
Sturidge would be awsome.. looks the biz and young, like hull had campbell and West brom had Ishmael Miller a good young prem striker can transform your season

I'm expecting a half decent creative midfielder and a reasonable striker from the Prem reserves. Glenn Whelan and David Healy would do. I wouldn't mind a defender as well, either centre or left back.
Glenn Little is a great shout. I work with a Reading fan and he loves the guy (also says Stevie Brown is his all-time favourite Reading player as a guide to the quality of his judgement). Would be really pleased if we pulled that off as he'd really improve the service Gray has been getting - more so than someone like Routledge would.
Comments
I'll be back next season in League 1 once I have got my badge so ner
Striker - D Bent
Midfield - D Murphy, S Parker
Defence - M Turner
No Good ?
Trust you to depress us all again, Golfie :-(
But in truth I would like some Arsenal youngsters - they know how to play and could use a little experience

Once we were relegated, at 33 he knew it was last chance to play again in the Prem.
He gave 100%, as you well know, whenever he did play.

Like Lita did
Just play them all alongside Cap'n Hudson and Weaver.
I think bouazza is ok though to be honest on the left. All of a sudden thoug hour side is held together by short term loans again too..........
