It is a matter of personal choice irrespective of how you feel about it. Please let people make their own minds up.
I really struggle with the idea of calling for another person to lose their job.
This said, he will be well compensated in accordance with his contract and this day has been slowly coming for a very long time in football terms.
I have lost all confidence in his ability to keep Charlton up in this division - something that I wasn't even contemplating before recent weeks. I could handle us not going up, but to go down in this manner is just too much.
The squad is not the best in the league, but in no way can they collectively be as bad as we have been witness to.
Search for the right man, get him in and show Pardew the door. No name calling, no finger pointing, this just hasn't worked out.
Relegation will be far more expensive than paying him off - you can lob 10k off the gate each week for a start.
I was stewing of whether this would be the right move or not but sometimes, even at an expense, brave decisions have to be made. It is time for him to go. Whether the appoinment maybe of Stevie Gritt would do the job or someone on the outside I'm still not sure, but something now has to be done. As has been said on here, relegation to League 1 will cost more than paying off Pardew. Irrespective of Harry's 'Houdini' qualities, the recent events at Tottenham show what can be done with a new broom.
That said, the players also need to look at themselves, we have a squad here more than capable of maintaining a play-off challenge, most certainly top 10 but they are not doing it. Maybe a new man in will give them the kick up the ariss they need.
I can't honestly see how he is going to turn this around, and relegation to Div 1 doesn't bear thinking about, so for me it's time to fetch your coat Pards.
I actually was one of the few in North Lower on Saturday who didn't join in with the "Pardew Out", chants. At the time I thought it was negative and unnecesary and did nothing to help or motivate the team and couldn't see (and still can't) who realisticly is out there who could come in, however upon reflection and considering the spineless shambles of a side we saw (apart from maybe 10 minutes in the second half), I no longer care if the board appoint a twelve year old as our manager, so long as they seem to have a plan, any kind of plan, and a bit of passion.
Sorry Al I'd like to say its been a pleasure but it hasn't. It's time to go and if you really can't even decide on that take the word of 21,000 odd people who were there at the weekend (MANY OF WHOM WERE KIDS WHO IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN HOPED WOULD HAVE BEEN INSPIRED TO SUPPORT THEIR LOCAL TEAM) and who would have more of a chance of getting a result against a very poor side than you ever will.
The fact is I can live with watching a poor team but what I can't accept is a lack of passion and effort and this is what’s happening in every game at the moment. I know it's the players that commit this crime but it's the manager that should stop it from happening.
You also live and die by your signings and 5.5 million pounds on 3 strikers with 17 goals to there name in nearly 110 appearances between them is not good enough.
We are fighting for our lives now and if Pardew can't get the team up for this fight then we need a man that can.
The team are cowering and crying in there bunker at the moment as bombs fall all around them. At the moment they looking around in a desperate search for a tough brave leader, there eyes fall on Pardew and all they see is a broken man who has run out of ideas and dose not know how to win this battle. We need a strong, brave, Churchill like character to give everyone at this club a lift and bring that old Charlton fighting spirit we use to be all proud of back.
This is a time for tough decisions and the board needs to step up to the plate and lead us out of this mess.
They have made mistakes Dowie, Les Read, trusting Dowie with money and big sacking pay outs in managers contracts to name a few but they need to get this decision right and get the right man in. If they don't I feel this downturn could snowball and non-league football, though at this time a remote prospect, is not a prospect I wish to entertain.
Out. But I also think any new manager will struggle with some/most of these players (his choices - which is why it is Out). I just hope that this mess doesn't mean we lose the promising youngsters like Jonjo, Josh W, Scott W etc - they are our only hope.
Home We've scored 12 goals which is more than Birmingham and the equal of Burnley and Cardiff, We have the 2nd worst defensive record at home
Away We've scored three times in seven games, the worst record in the division We have the 3rd best defensive record on the road
The defence and the attack independently are capable of being better than the top 4 sides in the division, it's a managers job to pull the best aspects of both play together consistantly, which he clearly can't do. I'm very much one of the more moderate board members but unless he wins more than two games on the bounce from now (something he's failed to do in the league for us) i can't see how he can continue in his role.
This is not the worst Charlton team I have seen by a long chalk but it is the worst the team in terms of passion, commitment and confidence.
Obviously we don't know what is going on at the training ground so we don’t know who is and who is not in-form, and we don’t know the injury situation but some the team selection to me just smacks of panic.
Poor Josh Wright, definitely a talented player but way out of his depth at this time and thus is contributing very little to the team. Basey gives us nothing going forward and is not as good a left back at Konchesky and he wasn’t very good was he?
Players like Semedo play so well when they are in the team that it is totally puzzling why he is not included every week and Chris Dickson needs a run. If he ends up not scoring then it won’t be any worse than keeping Varney.
I have never ever called for a Managers’ head before even Dowie but after much thought I reluctantly have to say PARDEW OUT before we are too far off the pace that we will never get back !!
I have lost the 'Buzz' of going to games recently partly due to the team but mainly due to the Manager. We have looked like lambs to the slaughter away from home for over a year now, home form has been patchy at best. We are where we deserve to be at the moment & sorry that is not good enough. Time to Go now please, be interesting to See how the current Board view this, If Richard was still in charge he would have been gone by Saturday Night.
Similar to others for a long time I was in the keep Pardew in camp.
The Palace game was one for me which started to change my mind. Watching a team containing Derry, Ifil and McCarthy (!) collectively outbattle and outwork us all over the pitch in a local derby was not good enough for me.
The following games have made the situation worse.
I have not been to the last two home games against Burnley and Barnsley, but the feeling of inevitability of checking my phone and seeing that we were losing suggests to me that my confidence in the manager has fully been lost.
I don't know who the answer is, but I certainly don't think that its Pardew anymore.
Time to go, Mr Pardew. The soul-less, guile-less, 'bottle'-less display on Saturday was the last straw. We want 'our' Charlton back, and you look highly unlikely to deliver.
[cite]Posted By: golfaddick[/cite]Only just seen this thread otherwise I think I would be on the first page !
Has to go - he has no idea who his first 11 are and after every game says that there needs to be changes.
JimmyMelrose came back to blighty last week and saw two games (Burnley & Ipswich away) in which we employed 3 different left backs (Cranie, Basey, Youga) and none we injured and therfore had to be replaced,
says it all really.
I was appalled at the first half performances in the two games I saw and yes, as Golfie says above, was confused by the players' positions.
I am however still against Pardew being sacked. I think that when you're going through tough times you need to show faith in the manager.
I appreciate that it's very difficult to feel that way when you're going to see the rubbish that they're playing.
My advice to you all would be to give somes games a miss, do something else on the Saturday afternoon for a few games.
Don't force the club to make a decision we may later regret.
As an overseas fan who recently came to a couple of games, I think that when you go to the games you get caught up in it all and begin to lose sight of what's really important. You get angry and demand action. We need to keep a clear head. If Pardew goes, can we be 100% sure that his replacement will be better? If he stays are you sure that it would really be such a catastrophe? I think that he can still sort it out, despite the rubbish I saw.
I've been going for over 20 years and have never seen it so bad, in terms of performance nor league position. Like most on here, it breaks my heart to be wanting a manager out (although I'd still never sing it at a game) but he's had a season and a half to prove himself and his team now looks as disjointed and disorganised as it's ever been. What's especially annoying about it is that, when you look at the likes of Bristol City and Burnley, good organisation is the most important quality you need to do well in this league. And that has to come from the manager......
If Pardoo is still here by the Birmingham game, we are genuinely deep in the brown stuff.
However, if we get the right manager in swiftly, and i've said this before, the way this league is and with the current squad + 2 more additions, we could still get promotion! Coventry winning at Birmingham last night. . .
I'd try and tempt Di Canio in. At least that would be exciting.
Unfortunately, I don't have much faith in the board either to be honest. Obviously their heart is in the place (anyone that puts their hardearned into Charlton must be crackers) but their judgement on football matters over the past 3 seasons hasn't been the best.
NB: Blind loyalty support gets you absolutely nowhere. Some of the happy clappers need to get a grip.
Never been a fan of Pardew but supported him we he joined the club. It was about this time last year when he lost that support with his constant tinkering with the side, wasting money on players etc. The board need to act now.
As many on here will confirm I tend to put all my faith in the manager and the board and am loyal to the point of being blinkered. It has however come to the point where I no longer have those butterflies in the pit of my stomach as soon as I wake up on matchday and find myself looking for reasons NOT to go, rather than reasons to go.
Is this because we're no longer PL? No. Is it because we're playing the likes of Barnsley rather than Chelsea? No…..
Its all because of the insipid, de-motivated football on show. Id much rather watch the likes of Brendan O'Connell miss controlling left right and centre but trying, than just watch us roll over week in week out.
There is no doubting in my mind that the teams of this season and last season are / were more than capable of playoffs and automatic promotion respectively, but there is something missing……..And I hate to say this as I'm a loyal as anyone on here, but Mr Pardew, as much as I think you're a decent bloke and indeed a decent manager (in other surrounds) I'm afraid its you that is the issue IMO.
As someone on here who will remain nameless said to me "He's just re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic".
Can we afford to get rid of him? Shouldn’t the club be asking "Can we afford NOT to get rid of him".
With the same heavy heart that so many of you have, and for the same reasons that so many of you have articulated so well, I'm adding my name to the list.
If and when Derek Chappell wades through this thread, my only further comment would be to remind him how Jon Sadler described the Charlton fans at Wembley in 1998:
