Henry has nailed this one. McLeod did look sharp but was playing in that awful first half. Had he been playing second half when we were pushing on I think we might have seen the real Izzy for the first time. I like Varney but take him out and give McLeod a go. Toddy is lazy but made us far more dangerous because his positional play is excellent and he can pick a pass. Toderov and McLeod please Pards.
I hope primus and Izzy were injured as I was not happy with the changes, but hey what do i know they worked. I would have taken off Cranie and brought on Bouazza (Basey dropping to LB) or brought on Toddy (Varney wide with Basey again dropping back)
Bit harsh on McLeod Shooters whats the guy suppose to do if no one can pass a ball in the 1st half. I didnt get excited when Luke broke through I knew he was going to miss it :-(

Not so much lazy as that is the player he is. He's not a runner or tackler.

I thought Primus was poor first half and that Cranie and Hudson looked a lot better in the 2nd.
Mcleod has played one reserve game so is unlikely to be ready to play 90 mins. Perhaps pardew felt he was going to have to take Izele off sooner rather than later and so, having to shake it up, swapped him at HT.
He is of course class. I don`t doubt that but I do question when a player covers half as much ground during a match than his team mates. Surely he could up it just a bit.

Maybe when he is fully fit but watch him and notice how often he finds space. Would be interesting to see the Prozone stats on him and some other players. Where's Derek Chappell gone?
And he wasn't slow getting his head to the ball for the goal.
If he was fit, with his class, and could run all day long he'd be playing for a better team than Charlton. : - )

Alternatively, he could run like a b*stard all day, chase down every through ball and lost cause and then miss sitters game after game. But then we don't really need another one of those do we!
As for Todorov, closing down and 'getting stuck in' isn't his game. Would just tire himself out. He gives us something none of the other strikers, even the whole squad, can't offer.
Would like to see Dickson as he is just a goalscorer, unlike McLeod and Varney who like to run at players and aren't good finishers.
I think Varney's work rate is not valued as much as it should be. He works so hard for the team. However, he is not a natural finisher and at the moment is lacking confidence - but saying that, he is creating for himself and getting on the end of more chances than any other player we have. I'd rather seem him play wide on the right or left instead of Sam or Bouazza (than be droped), with Ambrose on the other wing and play Dickson up front with Toddy.
I like Varney, I like his workrate, his honesty and his pace. Yet he does not look like a goalscorer, yet he none of our other players would have reached that backpass so he deserves his place, but we need to find someone to score more often alongside him. A fit toddy could be that man 4 in 14 so far and not all of those were starts

Agreed. If anyone deserves a goal it's him tbh. As said, if all the others had his workrate we'd be in a much better position.

Let the ball do the running!
With us 42 apps and 9 goals.Guess the step up in ' class ' is catching him out a bit.
I like him though. There's something there fighting to get out.

No attempts on target without Toddy five or six with him. He opens it up for others not just himself.
He is not the most physical of players but it said that on the tin and it is his brain rather than his brawn that we need.
