I am sorry this guy has now wasted five great chances over the last two games with no end result. Gray played well tonight, held the ball up and laid it off. To take him off was stupid, we lost our anchor up front and had nothing after he went off. Gray was turning them all night.
The move was push Varney right, Ambrose off for Dickson with Gray still on the pitch. See how it went for 10 then bring toddy on for Gray. Not waste a sub and then push Luke wide.
I for one do think that Varney has been given enough chances by the gaffer and enough chances laid on a f* ing plate in front of goal by our players! I am sorry if Yassa gets dropped from right back for the smallest mistake (he played well tonight) then Pards needs to drop Luke! I am not saying he is a good player but GIVE SOMEONE ELSE a go!
P.s I think Pards likes him too much if you know what I mean!

Gray and dicko have to start, althou pards will prob start with toddy and Gray
Oh, we are desperate.
P.s someone teach Sam how to cross please
However, Varney's main job has to be to score goals and I would guesstimate that he has probably taken one from approximately ten to a dozen chances he's had from 7 games this season. That simply isn't good enough and as I do have a little niggle at the back of my mind that Varney "freezes" in front of goal I would like to see Dickson given a run especially as he will offer something "different" to what we have at present. "
Nothing whatsoever has changed in the last month apart from the fact that Pardew, until tonight, has refused to even put Dickson on the bench. I'm not even hopeful that he'll even be there on Saturday.
He got to the byline a few times and we are crying out for a player to get to the near post yet gray and ambrose are both far post. I have noticed we never get a striker to the near post, this always makes our crossing look worse.
Tell him its not working at the mo, have a run in the reserves then come back.
To quick to write people off when the whole team is just not performing
Thought sam looked good when he came on. Send Bouzza back ASAP
I thought Gray had a half-decent game last night. Should have taken off Varney, imho.
We know the fella is a good player but he's just not putting those all important half chances(let alone clear chances) away.
Do we just keep playing him until he stars to score again or drop him.....he's certainly a big problem right now?
I don't have 'that much' confidence in Dickson and McLeod either...ok I may be wrong there.
I actually didn't think Gray played that badly last night. But the fact is he's not scoring goals and that's his job. Bouazza is terrible, how the f*ck did he cost 5m last season, i wouldn't give you 5 quid.

To be fair what chance have Dickson and McLeod been given?
I'm starting to think that Varney is another JJ in that he is actually better as a winger than as a main striker.
You can't knock Varney for the effort he puts in for the team but quite frankly he would struggle to finish his dinner at the moment. To be fair Gray, isn't doing much better.
I'd go with Toddy and Dickson on Saturday, with Varney on the wing. Hopefully with less pressure on him he might start doing the business.
Hopefully Moo2 will stay in at right-back as I thought he had a good game - Youga on the other hand needs a spell in the reserves.
Basey is no world-beater but he's solid enough and should start at left-back on Saturday in my opinion.
I have to say Varney would more than likely be a far more useful winger and That near post should be gray and far post should be Ambrose!
I think you're right.
I've been banging on for weeks about giving Dickson a run in the side as he offers the one thing that we don't have. Someone who would sell his grandmother to get into the box AND score goals. Quality strikers (the likes of Gary Lineker, Ian Wright, Andrew Cole and dare I mention Defoe) are the ones who, despite missing one or two chances in a game, don't allow their head to drop but continue to do the right things and get in the box. Others, when the pressure is on go missing. That's not "go missing" in the sense that they don't contribute but they start to concentrate on doing other things (like tackling back, closing down etc etc) rather than what they really should be doing.
Dickson's scoring record (including Gillingham last season) is exceptional and yet he's never started for us and can't have been on the pitch for us for much more than an hour in total this season.
No one can criticise Varney's work rate and in the long term I still think he could play with Dickson up front. However, a spell on the bench and coming on for the last 20 minutes and perhaps even scoring the winning goal would do probably him the world of good.
As for Luke , I don't think is confidence is there at the moment, but I would always pick him (and Bailey) as at least they TRY for the 90 minutes.
