  • He was taken off after 57 mins. Hopefully he's not injuried
  • Looked better at centre half than Youga at Barnet. Maybe will get some first team action for us in JP or FA cup

No way. Mambo was given the run around at barnet by an experienced furlong. Youga held the defence together that day.

    Play Sodje in the JPT
  • Welling won 3-1 yesterday, Mambo's sixth appearance. Highlights are on Welling's site.

My son says Mambo had his best game yet yesterday. Hopefully he will buld on that.
  • Good to hear. Did expect him to grow in confidence as he played, probably not so nervous now and has a better idea of what to expect.
  • The highlights are really entertaining - how many chances did Welling have?

And an interesting response from Mambo when WSM scored....hmmm??
  • Not given permission to play in the FA Cup for Welling on Saturday.

So he won't be cup tied for the final.
  • Doesn't seem to have played in the last couple of games for Welling - does that mean he's back with us? Perhaps he'll start in the JPT.
  • They have the FA Cup and dont want him Cup Tied ...

    Just what I was thinking.

There's now an u18 match report up from Saturday, Mambo played half a game. See here. Interesting that Semi Ajayi came on for him, who I think is an u16 centre back. There's a video on CAFC Player and he looks like he's probably big and strong enough to play u18 football as a schoolboy.

After seeing he only played half a game I think he'll at least be on the bench, especially with Sodje out.

I'll send an email off to the Welling FM researcher, hopefully get a bit of info on how Mambo did for them.
  • Here's the reply from the Welling researcher (who actually manages the Welling website)
It wasn't the best of starts of Yado, surprisingly he seemed a little out of his depth even playing at our level. But he just needed time to adjust to Blue Square South football as each game he improved vastly.

Your summary is pretty much spot on, he is your typical big centre-back, great in the air, powerful, determined, and solid.

However, probably due to his age, he can lack concentration and a few times got caught out with quick strikers when trying to play them offside.

Its a shame he returned to Charlton as one more month would have really done him the world of good, it was just as he was starting to gain confidence and show his true ability.

I'd be very surprised if he makes the Charlton first-team for league games, this season at least, but he definitely has potential as a big strong centre-half.

Sounds like he did ok but needs more games to gain experience and a bit more confidence. No idea what the club are thinking, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him out on loan again this season.

Sent off on his Dover debut. Joined them on work experience just like at Welling. Suspension doesn't start for two weeks so hopefully he gets a few more games before then.

I get the feeling we really want him to get as much experience as he can, seeing how he copes at first team level, even if it is only the Blue Square South. With no regular reserve games he needs to play and has shown he's generally solid at u18 level.

Heard a report on Radio Kent and they were pretty scathing about Mambo's whole contribution. Not just the sending off itself.
  • Seems to be a mixed view really but the general opinion is he's still very raw

    Mambo

However, I saw Mambo play in the youth Cup against Spurs and he simply couldn't live with Jon Obika on the deck.

Nor could our experienced1st team defenders during the 1st half at Yeovil in slippery conditions.
To be fair, that boy Obika is very fast and has great movement - and scored the Yeovil goal.

So no wonder Mambo struggled against him for pace and being turned.

Interesting, that last comment has a good point. It's harder for young centre backs to break through than other positions and they can take longer to develop. Just look at centre backs we've had coming through here, Turner and Shittu both had to drop down to League One and then work their way back up. Fortune would have most likely done the same if he didn't get a chance here.
Just looked very young and raw to me,Put in some real hard tackles and at 18 will improve greatly.Centre halves always have it harder when they are kids they take longer to develop.I hope we get another chance to see him
  • Played for Staines against Welling today .. lost 4-0 and had a mare for the 4th goal
  • Wonder what the future holds under the new regime for our youth. Now new players are coming in we may have seen the last of mambo and tuna
  • Tuna certainly has to sort himself out.

Has a bit of an attitude apparently and seems to think he's made it - but hasn't done much on his loan moves
Hope a new manager gets the best out of him

Amazing, isn't it - how do these kids hold on to inflated opinions about themselves and often screw up their potential when all the wiser heads they come into contact with are telling them they've got a lot to learn and they need to shape up? The folly of youth, I guess.

This has been done to death, with Ken from Bexley being particularly knowledgeable on the subject as he knows the lad.

The kid still needs an opportunity somewhere to either prove or disprove this...
  • On Mambo I don't get the impression he's pushed on this season as hoped. Got a loan to Eastboune in the BSP, a higher level than last season, but eventually dropped to the bench and his loan wasn't extended.

Jenkinson in comparison played well and was recalled to play for the first team.

Stavrinou seems to be doing fairly well, another good loan spell in the BSP with Cambridge. They can't afford to keep him there though.

Be interesting to see how the new manager uses the young players this season, if at all. Might have different ideas and opinions than Parky and his staff did. If there's money to spend it could make it even harder for any of them to break through.
  • On the subject of the youngsters, someone I know was at the Marriott Hotel in Waltrham Abbey earlier today and it seems that Carl Jenkinson and Conor Gough are travelling with the squad. Wouldn't have though that they will in the final squad though.
  • Yep Carl Jenkinson just posted on Twitter that he was at White Hart Lane.

    As you posted Allez .......

Spoke to a family member before Christmas, obviously the lad is 'frustrated' at present, I would be amazed if he was not.

Perhaps he will get a chance with the new manager.
By the way he only has a 1 year contract up this summer, so something needs to be sorted.
  • trust me, tamer doesnt think hes made it yet. nor does he have an attitude. i think he feels he needs to prove himself now even more because of the new owners.
  • I hate to be the doom merchant for our youth players but personally don't think Tuna, Mambo or Stavrinou will make it at Charlton due to senior players preventing them getting a game, plus them being not that little bit 'special'. Jenkinson will play for us and probably go on to better things too.
