I remember being in the bottom right hand corner with the old fella and my brother. Fighting started very close to us and what I found funny was four fella's wading in whilst there partners stood patientley waiting. The women did not bat an eyelid, as if was normal behaviour. Also remember a group of Scottish lads near us who were passing around a bottle of Buckfast. May have been the Dundee boys, can't remember if they used to go to games around this time. Someone will remember if it was them. Wonder if any of them still come to games.
One of the Dundee boys now lives in London (North) and attends the odd game and social event
Blimey! that brings back memories. Just can't belive the state of the pitch I've seen Charlton Park in better nick, mind ypou it could well have been as there were cars parked by the pitch cant remember seeing that on the day. First time I have seen the penalty, at least a yard outside of the box, no wonder John humphries was going ballistic. Tackles flying in by both sides that would have probably resulted in at least three red cards today. To be honest I don't remember much about the match asI was in a constant state of panic throughout. Thanks for the memories.
Chelsea mugged themselves that day. As we only had a small hardcore , it was was obvious from the second we arrived that these unknown gangs on the terrace were Chelsea. We simply got above and around them and waited. When they suddenly kicked off when the teams came out, we was on them before they knew what happened. They were battered down to the bottom right hand corner, where they were screaming for the stewards to open up the gate. It was hilarious the bloke could not find the key, and the police had to intervene and save them.
Fulham Broadway tube on the way back was where they waited for us, and we had everbody in the last carraige and came out on mass, and they were on their toes down the platform. Then it was a quick visit to Henry Irvin's statue to meet the stragglers and off for a beer.
No doubts we were held back. I seem to recall it was the player of the year that night at the Valley club. I am right?
No idea about PoTY.
We were held back - how long for is debateable, I was in a section behind the goal and it may have been that the Charlton fans were released in sections - from distant memory it was around 15-20 minutes in my case. All I can remember other than that was the boredom of waiting which was somewhat anti-climatic and then when we were finally spat out onto the Fulham Broadway there was nothing - no Chelsea fans waiting and hardly any police.
I would have loved to have been ten years older and going to games back then. Whilst the quality of football wasnt as good the whole things seems more authentic and so much better than nowdays.
Great day out loads of beer, St Martins Tavern before the game was as usual heaving, we could always get a tasty load of boys together, and we made that boozer our own. Chelsea melted that day.

I'd forgotten about the cheeky punch in th face in the box in injury time.
Could have been awkward.

Thanks, I watched this last night, I'd never seen the goals before. I can't believe how dodgy that penalty was...
