John Humprey was booked for arguing about the pen which miles outside the box. He later reported the conversation thus.

Was there with Alex Wright and some others in the seats. No segregation so all a bit tense. Remember it kicking off in the away end when they scored. Could see the CFC yobs being soundly thrashed by the fine upstanding CAFC persons who stepped in to protect the innocent.
Chelsea invaded the pitch after the Boro game which sent them down. I think it was after that that Ken Bates wanted to introduce electrified fences but maybe be wrong on that.
Chelsea being relegated. Will we ever see that again?
Who'da thought it after seeing him spit at a fellow human being. Paul Miller worked as an investment banker for Banque de Luxembourg. Miller has also spent time as players agent, property broker and with a law firm in London.
i was there - at a sprightly 17 year old with my big bruv.
Kicked off big time before during and after - in trafalgar sq
as for the game - not the greatest if I remember right and chelsea were all over us but old Spit the dog Miller shinned one in and a young Carl Leaburn wanted to take on all comers
[cite]Posted By: smokin ice[/cite]Yes. Sent off at Selhurst. Exactly the same position as Cantona and his flying Karate kick
against Newcastle.....cant remember who was on the recieving end of his gobbing.Remember Lennie saying afterwards he would never play for the club again....true to his word as well.
To be fair Chelsea had about 25 boys in the bottom right hand corner of our end!
The funny thing was 2 weeks earlier they had run Liverpool out of the north stand (away end) with the same numbers but Liverpool only had maybe 2 or 3000 their that day as we had maybe 7,000ish??
I remember when they scored the mob of Chelsea turned round giving it large thinking we would do a Liverpool....HAHAHA WRONG!.....They got battered that bad they were pleading with their own stewerds to get them out otherwise I whink they would have left our end in bodybags!!!!
Was a really great day out, didnt encounter any problems before or after (obviously saw the punch up thats mentioned)...was sitting up in the seats with a couple of Chelski bods.....I leapt up when we scored and had a few people give me a bit of verbal, but that was it...had a couple of pints before the game close to the ground, cant remember the pubs name...was a few Charlton in there though.
I went that day. My memory was the tension in the air before during and after. I remember it kicking off. I was toward the back and the centre. In my minds eye the Chelsea boys were on the right hand side and right at the front.
I seem to rember seeing a couple of photos on the old "loyal" site of the trouble from the Chelsea stand ??
Great day out, remember going up to the turnstile and a copper asked the bloke in front if he had been drinking, he say yes and the copper told him he couldn't go in. He then asked us the same question and we said no, he let us in. (Drink before a game, never). ;-0)
Stood in the middle at the back and saw the chelsea cry babies.
Got kept in after the game and remember two chelsea fans in the top tier of the stand giving us the finger. Which we returned, two coppers appeared at the top of the stairs behind these two chelsea fans. We continued to give back to them and they returned the abuse, as the coppers came down the stairs to nick them.
I was there too. Never seen Leaburn go crazy like that!
Paul Miller now works for one of the city firms who broker football takeovers - he was interviewed on Radio 5 a week or two ago. Said any deal you hear aboout unofficially/ rumoured will not happen - the real ones come out of the blue with an official announcement - just like last Friday, eh? For all we know, Paul Miller may still be 'playing for Charlton'?
I was in the West Stand for this one. Took my 8 year old nephew to the game. Bad decision!
Actually we should have been at a family wedding but 'volunteered' to keep my nephew occupied by taking him to the game . Don't think I could get away with it these days.

A fabulous day, penned into a couple of enclosures like a herd of animals as our gellent chaps took on (the even then) pompously over bloated ego's of Chelsea (just plain Chavsea then) nerves and tension all afternoon, they scored with an unjust pen and later on Paul Miller wrote his name in history as the ol' Mitre delta flew in the Chelsea net after a slight collision with Steve Wickes bad dyejob - 1-1, I remember my brand new Rodney Trotter jacket was torn to shreds in the resulting Stampede and crush following our equaliser (it was worth it as green was never my colour anyhow)!! We lived to fight another day and all the maltreated Addicks were left in their pens for an hour afterwards, the sight of tumbleweed blowing around Stamford Bridge after our sweet escape saved us and sent Chelsea to eventual relegation was one happy sight. I remembered the streets were like something out of 28 Days later when we were let out and the omnipresent threat of mutant Chelsea fans attacking us hung heavy in the air. I would suspect that those particular people were priced out of Stamford Bridge years ago and replaced by the landed gentry that takes in a game of "association" there nowadays. Memories..........

We filled that away end if I recall, must have had 6/7000 there when we were barely getting that at 'home'.
And it's now 1321 so that's less than a day, you JCL

Watching him jump up and want to beat up anybody who was standing near him!!!!
What a game, what an atmosphere, what a day,
I've got the video for that game somewhere indoors. When we score I am clearly visible going crackers when they pan in behind the goal. Great day out.
Never understood why we were plonked right in the middle of em in above the benches.
Got a good view of the row in the away end though. . . but didn't hink it was going to us stranded in their stand much good!

He's Spurs through and through. Was married to an old Spurs Directors daughter. . .

Was that the day your car got towed away?
Looking on the Derelict Pubs thread I see the pub we went to after in South Norwood has closed down.
CHARLTONHESTON
No need to SHOUT.
