Surely the price tag shouldn't be an issue. If you have on the one hand a player who is match fit, and one who has just come back from a long term injury it should be obvious who should start. Pards obviously either doesnt like or doesnt rate Dickson. Why else would he be the only forward not to have been given a start. Pards' stubborness to try other options, when the ones he sticks to aren't working, are costing us big time.
I think the news blackout the club seems to have imposed around Andy Gray is a good thing - if there is illness within the family , it is his business and it should remain a private affair free from media glare and intrusion. But is there any indication when he might be back in training and available for selection again?
sometimes the fans are more sympathetic if it is put out in the open,i remember when Jason Euells child died,(god rest their soul) there were rumblings on how much longer is he going to be out before we knew it was his child who had passed away, then everyone was of the opinion, take as long as is needed.this isn't a criticsims just a observation.
Stick Varney out wide and tell him to stay there. Then, give Dickson and Todds a run out up font, at least for a half.
What could possibly go wrong? Pards has been changing it about so much this season that surely it wouldn't make a blind bit of difference if he tinkered once more?
Whatever's gone on (if anything) between Dicko and Pards needs to be forgotten. We need and striker to start scoring regularly and to get us moving up that table.
Come on Pards. You know you want to!
Completely agree P_Air, I'd play it like this on Sat:
Weaver
Semedo Hudson Cranie Basey
Varney Bailey Holland Ambrose
Toddy Dickson
Varney offers too much to the side in terms of work rate to drop. Who knows, less pressure on him in terms of being one of our two out and out strikers may see him relax a bit in front of goal. A decent crosser too, which we stil lack on either wing on a consistent basis.
Since this thread started we've played 10 games and scored just 7 goals with Bailey getting 3 of them. If Dickson isn't going to get a run in the side now he never will do.
I too share the sentiments expressed about Varney and he will be an asset coming in on the back post and possibly playing on the left where he can cut inside on his right foot.
Toddy can come short and link the play with Dickson using his pace to get in behind.
All sounds perfect to me - but then so do all my Fantasy Teams!!!

I'd have Moo2 at right back and Semedo in the middle instead of Holland. It's a home game, it's Barnsley, and i feel Moo2 will offer us more going forward as we saw in the 2nd half against Burnley.
In answer to my own question earlier today about Andy Gray (see above - and which nobody answered!) , the OS is listing him among the names from which our two strikers will be chosen on Sat.
Presumably this means that whatever the nature of the family illness crisis that kept him out, the worst is over. I sincerely hope it was a happy ending.
So, more than four months since this thread began what have we learnt?
Gray - started well but has had personal issues to deal with and has now fallen behind the prolific Burton in the pecking order
Varney - packed off to pastures new following a bout of panic attacks in front of goal and the lure of money in the bank and a big wager earner off the books has proven too much to resist
Waghorn - some promise but sent to us to gain playing experience and in our position we really should be giving our own and not other club's youngsters that
McCleod - jury still out imo as brought back too soon for the Burnley game following lengthy absence through injury and not impressed subsequently
Fleetwood - not considered ready at this level and following loan deal with Cheltenham, is now into his second month at Brighton
Burton - why did we sign a "striker" who has scored once in open play in his last 27 matches? Answers on a postcard please.
Todorov - sadly there must be a possibility that he will retire at the end of the season. How else do we explain the enforced absence of our one quality forward?
Dickson - back in September I described him as our "rough diamond" and was really looking forward to seeing him grab his chance. Well Pards (and Parky in conjunction and/or subsequently) clearly believed that he is too rough a jewel to take a chance with
I cant comment on Dickson, McLeod or fleetwood because I havn't seen enough of them to make a judgement - and I've only missed 4 games all season !!
Gray is just so ineffectual is unbelievable. Burton works a bit and has good distribution, but is paid to put the ball into the net and clearly he can't.
Toddy's best days are behind him and is probably ok in a winning side who have the luxery of being a few goals up & can bring on someone a bit different - that we ain't.
Waghorn at least looks like he wants to score and tries his best - but only 18 and never played a senior match before has showed up his weaknessess - he certainly not a Shelvey.
[cite]Posted By: uncle[/cite]I think Oggy and me would be our best combination
I'd give that a go. Hopefully your "faces will fit" though or else it's going to be a long cold winter in the ressies for the pair of you regardless of how many you score and how utterly fucking shite Deon Burton is. I've seen better hold ups on Nora Batty, Parky.
Dickson is a rough diamond but he is also the one player we have who is likely to do the less obvious and I would love to see Pards giving him a run in the side."
Nothing really changed in 5 months - Dickson still not started a game.
Oh sorry forgot Pards has gone.
Come on Parky swallow your pride and do the right thing and play 4-4-2 at Burnley. You know it makes sense.

Four strikers? Bold move : - )
Haven't you forgotten Scott Mcleish?
