  • I feel that Dowie would have been more likely to keep us up than Reed (who seems to come out of this unscathed as someone else said)

    We'll never know!
  • Dowie came in and replaced 5 of the first X1 basically telling a mid-table squad with no cash (and no youth set-up) that you're poor - could have pulled it off if he got some points on the board but we took 1 point from Fulham away and Watford (h) - these would have been 4/6 guaranteed under curbs - so I believe we would have survived that year.

But the club was dying a slow death losing 2,000 season ticket holders every year and paying more and more out to lightweights.

We're OK now and lets get behind the club - looking forward to Selhurst already !
  • "Fulham away.......guaranteed (points)".
    When was that ?

[cite]Posted By: oohaahmortimer[/cite]with a £12m warchest for curbishley would he have kept us up in season 06/07??
i'm not a rocket scientist but i'm a gambler and i'd have bet a few squid he would have

That argument is based on sentiment rather than business logic.

Every business has to have a long term view and no-one in their right mind is going to give the £12m plus it would have needed to sort the squad out to a manager that has publicly stated that he won't be staying.

If Curbishley had committed to a new contract then you would probably be right, with £12m to spend he would have probably kept us up. But he had already decidied he didn't want to stay. What message does that send to any potential signings?

With that hanging over the club, I think we would have struggled to attract players, performances would have suffered and we would have probably gone down anyway.

really you can only go on his track record at charlton and then at west ham.give him £20 and we wouldn't have struggled.
