I know the arguments about him have been done to death, but personally I would have mixed feelings about this.
We did have a tendency to knock the ball long and high when he was on the pitch last season, he doesn't seem to be able to jump that well for a big bloke, he gave away a lot of free kicks, and missed some good chances.
BUT he still scored a few, and in team with a bit more creativity down the wings might have got a few more.
I think he would prosper in a Warnock team and might turn out to be a good signing for them.
Agreed - I would like to see a solid, play it on the ground strike partnership have time to bed in and gel.
I really think that if Toddy hadn't been crocked last season it could have made a lot of difference. He's a class act and I really hope he's fit and up for it this season.
And we have yet to figure out a way of getting the best out of Gray...
I like big Chris, but I think the other strikers on our books offer more promise. He did alright last season and he would do alright if he played for us this season, but we have to aim higher than that so I think it is right to sell him to a club with more modest aspirations (top scorer maybe but he did play in every single game - shift him out, don't care if it's palace)
I am really looking forward to seeing more of Andy Gray next season, it was such a relief that he (and Varney) ended the season on a high note with a goal - he should be in an upbeat mood for the season after a slow start for us.
Move him on. I've had mixed feelings about him but ultimately he hasn't got what it takes to make the difference. For his size, he wins few balls in the air and gives away free-kicks in the process because he doesn't know how to use his height to his advantage.
500k or over and I'd be happy. Always gave 100% but not really up to it IMO and gives too many fouls away even when he isn't actually fouling anyone ! Makes us play too direct and I'd rather see Varney and Gray with Toddy and Fleetwwod/Dickson as back-up from the bench.
Lets just rewind a few months/couple of years and how we were all honking about having players that didn't give a shit and how we would rather have 11 Matt Hollands etc I would be upset if he went as I have some good memories of this bloke, last minute at Southampton, winning us 3 points against Sheff Wednesday just be careful what you wish for guys
irrespectively there is a need to raise money in order to strengthen other areas that really need it and up-front is an area in which we have too many bodies. He isn't that good that he'd be a big miss imo.

Agree but the players we want rid of aint moving, so we have to make a few deals we'd maybe rather not. Think there may be bigger shocks than Big Chris as well if offers come in.
If this is true I would be sad to see him go as he always gave his all (remember him scoring at WBA when injured) and worked his bits off hence the late goals. His attitude has always seemed to be spot on as well.
He was top scorer and most of his goals won us points. Sheff Wed, Bristol City, Southampton for example.
I think he got unfairly blamed for the full backs pumping the ball 60 yards to him when he had no chance to win or lay off the ball. When he had another striker running beyond him his flicks were dangerous (see toddy's goal at Palace).
On the other hand he was a free so if we get decent money then that is good business and like it or not that's an important factor these days.
As has been said we already have a number of strikers so if selling him means we can get a couple of midfielders in then all well and go.
Good Luck Chris although I hope you bomb if you go to Palace.

Henry I agree and I don't "blame him" for the full backs pumping the ball in the air to him. However from their point of view if they don't have any mobile forwards making runs for them to try and find then they have little option other than to pump the ball up to the forwards where they are standing, or knock the ball to the midfield who will invariably pass it sideways or backwards.
So can somebody explain to me the origin of "stripey Nigels" or is it an acurate guess thatthey are called that because they are a boring team that play in stripes?

Yeah he scored most goals last season, but he did appear in every game. As a positive, it will surely improve the quality of football next season.
you just know it sigh
If it means that we resort less to route one footy and we try and build a more technical side, then good.
However, he did score a few goals and was a good plan B to have up your sleeve.
I think its true that Colin might get more out of him - and that he's bound to bite us on the backside, but that's football for you.
On balance - let him go I think.

But then again, he scored most his goals in the first half of the season. And only score one goal after Reid got injured against WBA. He missed him.
However, would never criticise him cos he always gave 100%.

If he ain't there they hopefully can't do it :-)
I'd take it and run.
Hard to say. £750k to £1m I'd hope but he is close to 30 and we got him on a free.
I can't see Watson coming but Palace sources say he's close to Hudson.
Maybe the sort of hitman who'd kill from about 25 metres, but whose target would escape uninjured from point blank range?
If we are skint we won't get anyone better and Iwelumo has a part to play in a team of relative midgets.
I'd only let him go if we intend playing Bent M which we all know won't happen.
