The Championship weekend review showed we were 2/1 favourites at the start of the season.
For me the jury is out on Pardew. I dont really like arrogant people and he has been 'accused' of that by Mr Murray and others but you do need self confidence in the job he has. Its a fine line sometimes between those two.
Anyway I dont think we have taken on board some of the unfortunate developments of the season.
1) Varney was injured in pre season
2) Todorov was injured at a crucial time and ruled out for the season
3) Reid was injured
4) Thatcher was injured
5) McLeod (Div 2 player of the year) failed in front of goal and appeared to have stepped up a level too soon
6) Mills who looked solid at one point then showed indiscipline and left in the window finances probably a factor
7) Moo2 who early on looked good going forward now looked weak at the back
8) Club finances determine Reid must be sold in Jan window
9) Dickson just as he was about to show as a threat up front gets injured in a freak accident
10) Bougy having developed a good centre back pairing with McCarthy gets injured
11) Andy Gray looks good initially but then a personal issue develops which is not for public digest but would understandably impact on performance
Around all this of course is some of the inconsistent performances of players such as Thomas/Youga/Fortune/Halford maybe others.
Its turning out to be a transient season on both the financial and the squad front. I hope these last few games gets us into the playoffs but if it doesnt I hope Pardew gets to sort out the squad so that we start next season with a far more settled first 11.
Every team will get injuries, and often to good players at crucial times. Unfortunate but inevitable. Re points 5/6/7/11, good management can have a role in overcoming these.
Another of my concerns is that many of our new players start off well then get worse - again a coaching/ motivation/ management issue.
Wiwlb i didnt aim that at you bud they all know who they are I just dont want the axe to fall too soon give him a chance we are used to waiting after all

But I think the sequence and timing of those injuries is relevant.
IMTPM - I agree that the timing of some of the injuries have disrupted us, yes, but because we don't have a settled squad (so many loans)/formation/tactics, this disruption has had a greater impact than it should - in my opinion.
We was always going to have an unsettled squad, we have brough in an entirely new team this year, I don't think any manager could have done a better job with having to completely rebuild, when was the last time a team had to do that?
Some people really need to take their head out the sky, or stick to watching badminton.
McLeod, Moo2, & Dickson all droppped or not selected without really a decent run in the side, ditto Youga & Semedo. Magic & McCarthy tried and dropped, only regaining their place due to injuries. Reid was tried centrally in a five successfully but less so in the middle of a four and wide left (also wide right) without AP deciding where he best fitted into the format. £6m got spent on Gray, Varney and McLeod but he starts with a loan player on his own upfornt at Ipswich before bringing on a free transfer to join him. Does AP know 1) his best forward line? 2) his best defence? 3) his best midfield? Because he sure doesn't show any consistency in his selections so it's little wonder they don't show consistency on the field, and morale must be rock-bottom unless your name's Matt Holland.
No need to get OTT, Stu, when this is a sensible discussion.
Pardew knew it was a rebuilding job from end of last season. Not many Championship managers have £12M+ to do it with. I would be more tolerant if I felt we were getting there instead of going back the way since the January transfer window. We have used more players this season THAN EVER BEFORE IN OUR HISTORY. Things aren't that rosy so I'm not sure who it is who has got their head in the sky.

The word you are looking for is injured.
We have also never been is this situation EVER BEFORE IN OUR HISTORY so I don't think things are that bad at all, 12mill is not a huge amount of money at all in todays football world and we are well priced out of the market for better players, look at the money QPR spent, that was a team in the relegation fight at the start of the season, the fact is your average player would rather sit on his arse bench warming on Premiershit wages than play football for less money in the championship.
It's a rebuilding job yes, that's not done over night, give the man a chance, so many of our so called fans seem to simply love jumping on peoples backs and having a good old moan, I don't get it, yes we have had some shocking performances this year but I really don't think we are doing as badly as some people are making out.
As for the Pards out idiots, if you want to stump up the cash to pay him off, go for it, otherwise he ain't going nowhere and that's something I'm glad about, imho he's one of the best in the game at the moment.

We have played two games this season where we have been up for it Soke and Palarse at home and the outcome of both
every team has injuries.
we've been fortunate to be in a position to replace our injured with 6 loanees from prem clubs, bought the top scorer off a club in our division and had basey and youga emerging to call on when needed. these players are on top of what was seen to be a 'strong squad' at the start of the season. imo not many in our division could/would've been able to do that.
i'm not a 'pardew out' merchant, i just thought we'd have been a lot closer to knowing our strongest 11 by now.
I dont think Pardew does know his first or strongest 11
what i do feel is that if next season we have an unsettled squad who are out of form only pards him self will be resbonsible and then no one will be able to save him if on an optimistic hand we storm through with players he has looked at this year then the man has done exactly what he said on the tin a 2 year plan.
i know that some people dont get or like the term but how do we know that he is not looking at getting the team toghether to challenge next year at the same time hoping that it will fall in line this season, there has been too much tinkering for a man who understands the importance of consistancy for it to be as black and white as we all may think.
Pardew complex man and full of his own self worth to do something like i have mentioned above would surely fit his character aand maybe is not a bad way forward
I understood the Board was made up of a number of loan Directors who we can get rid of at the end of 28 days subject to performance or whether their original Plc was willing to take them back.

There we go, Curb_It - thanks for finding it, ALF - great digging!
I tend to think it says more about us as Charlton supporters, we've got used to the meek and mild under Curbs, and with Pards he has a different world view.
I thought Curbs was a great manager, but I also thought he undersold the club, and quite liked the 'Little old Charlton' tag, and I guess a lot of supporters did too, but some of us quite like the more bullish, more ambitious attitude that Pards has.

Would love to find that prediction thread again, I think Len is closest with his 13th. :)

What new board? No new members have joined the board. The PLC board is the same people.
Plastics the lot of them.
Supporters Directors are 2 a penny.

In this case, I'm not all that convinced they do, Rothko :-(
