Former Charlton and Reading defender Steve Brown says the arrival of Leroy Lita at The Valley is "exceptional".
Lita, 23, signed a 28-day loan with the Championship club after struggling to secure a first team place at Reading.
Brown told BBC London: "This is an exceptional signing by Alan Pardew. I'm surprised Reading let him go.
"The thing that strikes me is how he's out of the picture at Reading. They are in the relegation mire and you'd expect them to want all hands on deck."
Lita, who scored 14 goals for the Royals last season, goes into the Charlton squad for Saturday's home game with Preston North End.
Guys in football training grounds across the country there are people fighting while we speak, these things happen they will alwasys happen,
i am told Lita is a player who doesnt deal well with Ciques and from those who i know at Reading that the spirt that got them up a few years ago was based around players of the same nature as Leroy.
This has since changed and there are the Coppleites and the Coppleaints
Lita was an ite and is now an aint. (what those at Reading are calling the 2 sets of players)
I was talking to my man there this morning and he assures me the issue is not Lita but maybe just maybe Coppell is loosing the changing room
as the fight was over the 2 clans that coppell has created and i heard Lita won the fight, Hunt got gobby with Lita mentioning that scoring 2 against Chelsea and you still wont play and got a smack and Murty did the captains bit but got some as well as Lita had switched proper by then
welcome to an angry point to prove young man
like i said to him on Tuesday the fans here are desperate for a good striker and i believe you are the man who we could do with big time.
Coppell has got rid of him because hes clearly a pain in the arse. And one of the guys who has worked hard in our squad either Iwelumo or Varney will probably have to make way for him. Yes I want promotion and yes we needed a proven goalscorer. But I dont want it at the price of taking on some Billy Big B*ll*x who lays into other members of the squad and the Manager.
We have sold our Charlton ethos down the river and quite frankly are being corrupted by the lure of Premiership glory.
Having said all that hes here now and I hope he does the business but I would rather we hadnt gone down this route.

the thing about football is that it is harsh game people have to miss out
we do not have someone at the club who plays like Lita (dicko maybe) and all year we have needed one
I get the feel from the guys who i deal with at Reading quite a lot that Lita is nothing like you described.
I also was told that if he is scoring that coppell will be forced to bring him back however if they pick up 2 results whilst he is here then we will have him for the rest of the season.
Lets give lita the oportunity to stick it to coppell by banging in 4-5 goals for us in that month that we have him

Do you have a contact in the Reading dressing room? If not, how do you know he's some kind of "Billy Big Bollox" or he is "clearly a pain in the arse"?
the scoop was pure luck iwas in the right place at the right time
he was told the morning of the City game that a deal was on the table for him at charlton and i had already left work by then and had spoken to Reading at about 9 and nothing was really up and running by then
but the info from reading comes from just outside the playing staff but within the playing mgmt team so pretty good
this guy has always found Leroy fine maybe a tad arrogant in regard to his own abilities but not as a person and never a problem in the changing room
a great asset to us at this level and no one can garentee goals but if we create the chances he will score he was very confident of that
What if he comes in and really does the business in 28 days? Do Reading recall him and we then lose him just when we need him? Where does that leave the confidence of Varney,Iwelumo or Gray or anybody else for that matter.
And if he fouls up? Well that wont be too clever either.
Either way it challenges Pardews man management skills. And also I now have to keep an eye on Readings results/scorers as well.
I think Mr Coppell is confident that they dont need him I think others are not so sure, Reading seem to be run very similar to us and alot of things stay private especially on the footballing front.
I cant see him calling him back to be honest unless they get an injury
Coppell has made a decision and the feeling is that people will back that as no player is bigger than the manager although it would give ammo to those that are not fully supportive of coppell and this season there are a few at board level who have questioned him and some decisions
imo it is no difference to Mcleod playing apart from hpefully leroy will score as i said he is different to what we have at the club

"Perhaps trying to kick the shit out of Hunt & Murty in the dressing room last week had something to with this?"
Any particular reason for the apathy ?"
It aint a striker we need its a creative midfielder we dont have one so I'm non plussed about Lita cos we wont get the ball to him!!
Well 'ard...
Lita?

Crikey, Rothko, we actually agree on something!
A bloke who wants to stick 2 fingers up and prove his (old) boss wrong.
Plus if we do go up, he'd defo be someone I'd want us to buy....
He never bought Andy Reid though :-)
Lol, superb!

And if Pardew leaves I wouldnt object to Coppell as manager either.
Just a different point of view folks.
