  • [cite]Posted By: NorthStandUltra[/cite]Good luck to Weaver, I thought he did well for us & was let down by the muppets infront of him.
It was only toward the end of his time as first choice that we started to make mistakes, he won us a lot of points in his first season, although I'll never understand his attempted punch at Ipswich!
  • Wish Nicky luck. Don't think he was too bad for us. Made a few mistakes in a few games around the time Pardew got sacked but as was everyone else. Overall he was pretty solid.
  • I didn't think much of him as a keeper to be honest, very average and should have been dropped a lot earlier. That said you couldn't fault his attitude and commitment which you could most of the other players at the time.
  • good keeper much prefer him to the current two challenging for the no.1 spot
  • Yeah....never quite understood the anti Weaver brigade....had a bit of a dodgy patch last season that's true...but I never liked the way some singled him out as though he was the cause of all our woes.................as is often the case with keepers.
From what I hear he's a very good pro, does everything asked of him at Sparrows Lane(including helping and encouraging the youngsters) and doesn't make waves.
  • Weaver has just been released from Hospital according to SSN. Found the following story from a local paper:

Weaver (30) was rushed to hospital on Saturday night after becoming ill hours after helping United to a 2-1 win over Falkirk.

A series of tests indicated he had either contracted an infection or suffered a severe allergic reaction to something he had consumed, but the keeper has been making a strong recovery and is expected to be released within the next 24 hours.

“Nicky was taken into hospital on Saturday night,” club director Derek Robertson confirmed yesterday. “But thankfully he is on the mend and should be out of hospital and back in training shortly.”

It’s understood Weaver became ill after returning to his home on the outskirts of Dundee after a meal with his girlfriend. Club doctor Phyllis Windsor was called and immediately arranged to have him hospitalised.

The highly regarded former England under-21, Manchester City and Charlton Athletic player joined United only three weeks ago on a five-month deal.

Sheffield-born Weaver is in the process of trying to rebuild his career after a serious knee injury.

After making an impressive start to his short-term stint at Tannadice, he is widely tipped to make a return to the English Premiership when his stay on Tayside ends.

A spokesperson for NHS Tayside last night said Weaver was on the road to recovery.

“Mr Weaver became unwell on Saturday evening and has since made a good recovery and is well,” he said. “He will be staying in hospital for further investigations.”
  • Blimey - get well soon Nicky. "arranged to have him hospitalised" - That sounds a bit sinister, that's not the same doctor Michael Jackson had is it?
  • Poor old Nicky ...... looks like he, erm ....... "caught" a bug.

    :o)
  • My son starts work in Dundee today,I'll ask him to pop into the hospitaland give Nicky our wishes.
  • You have another son? Or are you referring to the son who doesn't really like football, or cricket, or rugby! He won't understand why you are asking him to carry out this chore.

No thats him, keep telling him about Weaver, Dundee and Dundee Utd - does not want to know - where did I go wrong!!!
  • Does he like musicals Kap?
  • [quote][cite]Posted By: Algarveaddick[/cite]Does he like musicals Kap?[/quote]

Nah, he lives his life in the bubble of the internet
  • Dundee will cause an alergic reaction.

    Surprised it's taken this long.

    Good bloke Nicky
  • All the best to Weaver, was first class till Pardews last month when the lack of centre halfs left him vulnerable and led to a blip in form. Hope the allergic reaction is not to serious and he gets back to his best soon!
  • i heard on talksport yesterday that he has been released by dundee utd cos they had signed a permanent keeper , also that he had been in good form for them and that he had been playing for a small wage (doesn't seem to add up but that's what they said).....
i know he wasn't the most liked keeper at the valley but seeing another elliot blunder yesterday i for one would much rather have weaver in goal than robbie who makes mistake after mistake
imo elliot isn't good enough and i'd rather randolph got given his chance or preferably we got weaver back on the cheap .....
robbie did make a good save yesterday but that was after his very unconvincing attempt to get the ball after it crashed against the bar and as for the goal well i know for one if ikeme or randolph had made it we'd all be screaming how much we missed robbie , still at least robbie's a charlton fan
  • you must be on drugs !!!!!!!!!!!

elliot is one of the reasons we are 2nd at the moment - blinding save from Barnard last week and a double save yesterday to keep us at 1-0.

Weavers not fit to clean his boots............

There's no way Weaver is coming back down South to us, so it's not worth discussing tbh.
  • agree with the great save last week but he also dropped a simple routine catch from a cross in the second half last week ....
not sure about the double save yesterday thought it was one shot he saved but his pathetic attempt at going for the ball after it ballooned off the crossbar lead to his save ....

So we need a new keeper in the January window then oohaah.....any suggestions?

Sorry mate can't agree. Elliot still might not be the finished article but he is certainly getting there and is likely to be our No 1 for years to come. I think PP would know who is better between Robbie and Randolph and clearly he thinks it is Elliot!

erm err maybe weaver if available at the right price
  • Mistake after mistake???????
    He's a bloody good young keeper....Simple!

oohaah...you're 'clearly' looking for controversy this evening.....I'm sure you're not daft enough to believe what your saying for one moment.

Weaver is a decent keeper but had some big weaknesses, namely his overall mobility and kicking game.

Elliott is not that mobile either but has a very good kicking game and is a good shot-stopper, although so is Weaver.

The key advantage for Elliott? He is much, much cheaper!!!!
  • Elliot this season:
Wycombe home- cracking late saves to preserve win
Brentford home- some great saves in 2nd half to stop them getting back into it
Norwich away- great save 10mins from end, if it had gone it I am convinced we'd have lost. Also fouled for goal
Leeds away- couple of top saves from Beckford and B Johnson
Huddersfield and Southend at home- also some great saves to keep us in game!

    to name a few

Can't believe anyone is in favour of him not being in the side!
  • in recent games OA elliot's kicking hasn't been to clever imo
i can assure you i'm just viewing my opinion Soundas and i've never ever been convinced by elliot and thought weaver was more than good enough as a keeper in the championship let alone league one....
obviously if his wages are lumpy it's a definite no go but on the radio they made a point of saying he'd been on a small wage packet at dundee utd , which made me think we could get him on cheap wages if no one else is in for him...
  • I can't see Weaver wanting to come back to us even if we could afford a decent wage. Pretty sure he's rather be in the North or maybe Scotland.

Also re Elliots kicking, he has had a groin injury so I am not surprised it has not been as good since his injury. Also hard to moan about Elliots kicking when we had Deano for so long!
  • Surely this can't be serious?
