  • Unlikely he has signed for Norwich in my opinion unless he has already spoken to Sheffield United, Charlton & at least one other club who had all contacted Blackpool activating the £250k release clause. Norwich have been a poor side for last couple of seasons cannot believe he would sign for them over Sheffield or us for that matter.
  • [cite]Posted By: ShootersHillGuru[/cite]If true then I think we have let a good player get away for what I consider to be a very low fee. Maybe we tried and he prefers Norwich ? It could of course mean we have other targets we prefer or Pards thinks his midfield will be ok this season with Racon and Shelvey.

Uhmm, Racon still an unknown quantity whilst Shelvey at just 16 cannot be replied upon to play more than say 30 games max throughout the season. I cannot imagine Narwich can pay more than we do and it'll be very disappointing if he ends up there. One of the best players in the division last season and I can't see that we'd be able to get much better and definately not at that price. If it happens then definately one that got away. And what happened to the 'our season has finished early but that will mean we can steal a march on other Clubs' ?

Purely what i heard, and not confirmed.

Hoolihan has been touted round by his agent since March / April. We were one of the first clubs to hear about the release cause, and were very interested.

Since then a whole host of other clubs have got involved. It would appear to me the player / agent have simply been trying to achieve the best monetary deal. Elsewhere i've read Norwich have offered a £250k sign on fee and reports of salary ranging from £12k-£17k a week. I've no idea what figures are near the truth, nor have i any idea if we have dropped our initial interest.

If thats true theyre paying silly money for someone at this level
  • I'm getting the impression we won't have any more ins until we have some money generating outs..
  • AllI can say is we've been here before with the Hoolihan signing for Narrrich business.
    Let's wait and see.

If that's the money they are asking for then it's no surprise that neither Charlton, nor any other club are interested. Fair play to his agent in trying to get the best deal but circa £17K a week is unrealistic for any Chamoionship club.
  • I doubt Narwich would pay anywhere near that, even the 12k pw.

  • Although nobody knows if these figures are actually correct, if he was to get 17k a week, over a 3 year deal, plus his transfer fee, that's less than 3m. Do people on here feel that a deal of around 1m a season is bad for a player who was arguably one of the divisions top performers last season?
Forest for example have just spent 2.65m on Earnshaw, add his wages onto that and what will that deal work out at? A lot more than Hoolihan.

That said, i'd be very surprised if he was to get that much money at Norwich and i'd be even more surprised that if there was genuine interest from us and Sheff Utd, then he'd choose Norwich.
  • The problem is...that when you give a player a salary that's outside the wage structure of the rest of the squad is that they will demand a wage rise. I still think that we'll need to sell Jerome Thomas to finance any deal and free up his wages and place in the squad.
  • Be careful what you wish for....wasn't Chris Iwellumo 'one of the best players in the Championship' this time last year.
(I actually like Big C, but you get my point)

A lot of Blackpool sites I was reading were full of fans saying good riddance. Some of it can be attributed to sour grapes but many of them all agreed that he was far too greedy, his passing was brilliant 10% of the time and shocking a lot of the time.

Maybe we took a look and decided that the bidding war was going to make him too expensive and too much of a risk
  • well, he was, in my opinion, the best player I saw at The Valley last season and Roeder is on record as saying that he was the best player to visit Carrow Road last season. Maybe he only turns it on at grounds with four sides to them !!
  • Norwich are a prudent club and I doubt they will be parting with £17k per week. On the other hand they have just outed some big wage earners in Huckerby and Dublin so they may have some spare to offer.

He also impressed Trappatoni at an Ireland training camp and was considered good enough for a full cap at the end of last season.
  • I thought he looked very good in our home game with them, but given that a lot of the Blackpool team gave the impression of not having met each other before, then perhaps it's not surprising that he stood out.

I also remember that ZZ looked class that day, but in all honesty it wasn't reflective of a lot of his subsequent performances.

On the basis of that one performance, it would look like he could do a job for us, but not for stupid wages and at the expense of being able to find that midfield 'enforcer' we need.

  • I've always thought that Thomas was better anyway

Thomas was better at what Large ? if he had the skill and guts the size of his ego he would be playing at the very highest level.

How long to go be4 the big kick off 6 weeks ? and we still have a midfield that i wouldnt mind playing against even at my age. We still have at least 3 players (Bent, faye and Thomas) that believe thay are to good for us and dont mond siting on thier arses geting a big wedge of dosh.

People already are looking to a 16 yo kid as some sort of season winner for us FFS he is 16.

Still cant see us geting higher than 8th and maybe even lower.

that was a cross between tongue-in-cheek and sarcasm
