Despite being a CB Macaulay Gillesphey has such an impact on the way we attack. Couldn't beat their press in the first 20 minutes but when he came on things massively opened up.
Not saying that should be the system we start with but is a great trick to have up the sleeve.
Wasn't there today, really wish I had been. So pleased for everyone, but particularly for Gillesphey.
Ismael is complaining that they should have had a penalty for a Jones handball - anything in it?
Oh and yeh. Gillesphey was superb and was also very pleased for him, superb in the end last season even ignoring Wembley, and harsh to have been semi frozen out of the side this season so great to see him come on, score and play a couple of very confident passes etc. good lad, bench/ squad at the moment seems very healthy
Great 3 points cause we not only beat Blackburn very big physical side but we had to beat the ref everything went their way think we had 6 booked they had 1/2 .. first half pretty even without them really forcing a save .. Edwards lost through injury he hoddled down the tunnel but Gilly first real touch GOAL from a brillent cross from Bree .. then in the 38 mins Campbell actually touched the ball but with Kelman unmarked hit it straight at the keeper .. second half we dominated pushed them back and back they relied on break aways which was dangerous but Kamimski dealt with all crosses and any sniff of danger don’t think he had to make a serious save .. turning point was Olaofe for Campbell .. created two goals and really chased everything did not give them a second rest .. don’t think Blackburn can complain at all …. MOM Burke outstanding at the back also forget the Japanese kid and give Bree a long term contract
I still don’t know how good Kaminski really is, as our defence has been so solid. Special mention to Macca — he’s had to be patient, but he didn’t take his chance well.
So much to be positive about after that performance today. Edwards is a concern but ironically Macca coming on and Bell going left back seemed to be a formula we stumbled on that just worked.
Macca, Jones and Burke aren’t gonna be losing much in the air anytime soon and we have such a threat at set pieces now. Especially with Brees brilliant deliveries.
Tanto is unplayable at times. Brilliant player and I’m torn between starting him and keeping it the same. Campbell it can be argued works the defender hard enough that Olaofe can then do his thing when he comes on.
Carey is just such a classic Charlton player. Reminds me of Graham Stuart.
And special praise for Doc and Coventry. Doc in particular was everywhere and looks ten times the player in the champ than in league one.
Agree about Campbell/Olaofe. TC and Kelman both pressed very hard for an hour and on another day either could have scored. Being able to bring Olaofe and Leaburn on fresh with 35 to go is a nightmare for defenders. Probably worth persisting with a bit longer. Feel sorry for Apter, not as good a RWB as Bree. Knibbs cannot replace Carey either. And unless Burke is knackered, Ramsay cannot start either. What a great position we are in.
My take on today. I was at the game and was allowed to leave at the end of the match. How refreshing. For the first time in a few years I actually think we are building something special. I'm not getting carried away and staying up is still the goal . But I honestly think that if NJ is given a competitive budget next season we will challenge for the playoffs.
I didn’t watch it, and have only read the first page of this thread.
My initial reaction though is to praise Gillesphey. He got dropped with Plymouth after promotion and the same has happened with us, despite being an integral part of our promotion team and scoring our goal at Wembley.
He got his chance today and took it. I’m so pleased for him. I really hope to see him playing next month when I’ll be in attendance.
Excellent second half performance after we'd got our noses in front. 3-0 didn't flatter us, could and should have been more. Thought Kelman worked really hard but was feeding off scraps. I'd like to see Tanto start with Charlie, he was great when he came on. I'm not knocking TC but he's not really at it at the moment, Tanto deserves his chance. Coventry, Doc and Carey ran the show today, all Cantwell could do was fall over all the time and whine at the ref. Compare his captaincy to Doc, like chalk and cheese. Doc is like Kins for me, leads by example. Kins was a better player granted but both led by example. Bree was outstanding too. Special praise though for Macca, has bided his time and grabbed his chance with both hands. NJ has a few headaches for Tuesday, and beyond. It's what we need though, players fighting for places and performing when called upon. Another unlucky to lose his place is Apter, done nothing wrong, in fact a lot right, but Bree is the better bet in the RWB position. Apter's chance will come again and when it does he needs to grab it. Knibbs and JRC likewise.

No. I was watching on Blackburn tv and their commentators were not interested. It hit jones in the arm which was down by his side.
edit. I was flicking between Blackburn and Charlton tv as connection was rubbish. Maybe I was watching Charlton tv at the time and our commentators said no 😬
Being able to drop/rest/rotate Apter, Ramsay and Edwards from the back 5, and have Bree, Burke and Gillesphey come in, but look just as strong if not stronger, is fantastic
We were terrible up until the goal, thankfully Blackburn were just as bad.
Gillesphey was like a man possessed when he came on, nicely capped by a well-placed header from Bree's excellent cross.
Defence and midfield were rock solid and gave Blackburn nothing all game. Docherty was my man of the match, he was all over the pitch. Coventry and Carey were also excellent and would have walked the man of the match award most games.
Lloyd Jones looks like a top-end championship defender and Burke, Bell, Bree and Gillesphey were all dominant. Bree and Bell also got forward well and it was nice to see Burke carry the ball forward when he has the opportunities.
Kelman was okay but it's not quite happening for him. I felt he was a bit unlucky when Bell won the ball and drove forward, Kelman was in a great position for a square pass that would surely have led to his first goal for us. It wasn't TC's best game but he looked dangerous on a few occasions in the second half.
Leaburn and Olaofe really turned up the aggression when they came up. Golfaddick would no doubt have been disappointed that Leaburn only won about 90% of his aerial battles. Olaofe won some contests that he had no right to win and I love how he pressures defenders and drives forward with the ball.
Carey's goal was a cracker, really catching the keeper out (not that he would have got near it anyway) and Bree's goal was a nice team goal, with great work from Docherty in particular.
A great performance and result, we move on to Derby with confidence.
If you could combine Jones' overall play with Gillesphey's ability to actually head the ball into the goal you'd have a hell of a player. Jones gets a lot of chances with his head and he manages to miss all of them - except for the Leicester one where he actually nailed it but it got pulled back for a foul. Campbell put a lovely cross onto Jones' head that he put into the keeper but Gillesphey always manages to get his in. I hope Edwards isn't injured but I'm not too worried with Gillesphey as his replacement
A great performance and result that changed from the first 20 minutes or so when Macca came on. Contrast the number 10’s and captains. Can’t recall “Rantwell” winning a tackle, chasing the ball down or playing a meaningful pass.
He had a good moan though with little to moan about. Something of a show pony. Thankfully we don’t have those in our team.

We will be more than alright this season.

Our bench/squad is so much stronger this season...

lol!... Love his comment about being able to score from 30-yards but not 3-yards
"These aren't Luton players (talking about Bree etc.), they're mine"

So many good performances but I loved Tanto's impact
