For all the criticism Jones received in late November/December, he got it right. Leyton Orient, had twenty minutes of the second half, Jones made the changes, they didnt threaten again. So pleased for everyone at the club and so pleased for everyone on here, this team has done everyone proud.16

No it wasn't. The only time I was worried was the free kick 10 mins from the end. The rest was blocked/missed shots, huff and puff stuff. I wasn't comfortable when that deflected shot flew only inches wide (from my angle I thought it had gone in) or when Orient hit the crossbar. Nor when they broke away or got in promising positions.

Thought Anderson was terrific when he came on today. Love this team, will be interesting to see where we stick or twist over the summer. Would love to see TC and Small signed up to new deals 🤞36

I am surprised how many comments about Orient the better team, we were lucky etc. We set out to win by having a better defence and some talent up front. Our midfield has been our weak point all season so we largely go over them. We press the other side into mistakes.
Some fans may not like this so there is a team they can support in the 3rd Division next season called Leyton Orient. Have fun.
The rest of us will be watching Charlton succeed on the Championship.

Well a solid defense wins you games. Our midfield not great today, Orient controlled the midfield but our defense
did every thing you could want, and the marshalled the rest of the team well, so they could defend in packs. I will give mention to Godden, had little chance upfront but got back and defended well.
I feel that Orient played the better football until they came up against our organized defenders.4 -
What a result ! What a day ! To the Championship all the way ! Goodbye League one. Forgive me if I say I never want to see you again ! Looking forward to some top notch games at the Valley next season. Although we will need a serious squad revamp to make any sort of impact. First season back I’ll settle for mid table mediocrity !0

So happy now that we've won, but that was such a tense, nervy affair that I couldn't say I enjoyed it at all. Apart maybe for the five minutes after the goal, and maybe from about thirty seconds before the ref blew the final whistle.
And it felt so different from 2019, perhaps because we were favourites to win, but mainly I think because we've just endured five miserable years in League One, which has seen the club's standing diminished, especially when compared to our south London neighbours; and losing out today would have been a crushing blow. There was so much at stake today.
Right from the start you could tell that it wasn't going to be a classic, and the atmosphere never reached the levels of the Valley semi second leg imho, but today was all about winning. I never had to drop a beta blocker, which I'm supposed to do if the heart rate goes too high 😂
I also couldn't believe that the entire row behind us was empty. We were in the second tier, just below the hospitality boxes. They have their own seating, but the row below their area was deserted, as far as the eye could see.
There were also empty blocks in the upper tiers, up the Orient end. You could see where they separated the sold seats from the unsold areas. There should be some sort of investigation in the why there were so many empty areas when there seemed to be so many Charlton fans unable to buy tickets.
But I had a nice surprise after the match. I thought I'd only backed us for auto promotion, but discovered I'd also backed us for promotion full stop. And I'd also forgotten that I'd backed Macca to score anytime.
The game itself doesn't really need analysis. We did what it took to win the game, and little more.
Haven't seen a replay of the goal yet, but it looked like a solid strike. I had a premonition he'd score from a free kick.
The defense was excellent again, and Ramsay pulled off one of his blocks in the first half when we were under a bit of pressure. Jones won so much in the air, Edwards was solid, and Gillesphey had a very good game again. Also good to see Karoy make a difference, again. Adds pace and dynamism when he comes on.
And it was amazing to see the players mingling with the fans on Wembley way after the game. Shook Lloydy's hand and said thank you, and had a pic with Mannion (who had a great game, catching everything!) It all felt a bit surreal, so soon after such an important match.
My overriding feeling now is relief rather than joy. There's a lot of work to be done before the next Championship season starts on the 8th August. Much as I love this team, I wonder how many of them will be in the starting line up on that day.
PS Nathan Jones: "I'll have a night, maybe two [for celebrations], then the recruitment process for a totally different environment starts, and that's what we have to turn our attention to."21 -

It's strange how people have a different perspective of the game. Charlton were clearly the better side first half, Orient changed their shape and had a good twenty minutes second half, we made the substitutions and they never threatened again. Charlton deserved to win that game.23

Yeah Gilbert today left a lot to be desired, there's definitely a player in there but he seems to have a poor engine and struggles to get back unless he's already in a defensive position. We looked much better at closing from the front when Anderson came on.
Chuks unlucky not to score but was too tight and angle.
Coventry had a poor first half, better second half when everyone slowed down a bit.
All in all I felt they played the better football but we showed more desire.4 -

Harsh. This time last year many were discussing whether or not he had a future with us. He’s strengthened his body over the summer and worked hard on his game. We weren't lucky, their closest shots came from our blocks deflecting the ball. We weren't comfortable, but I wouldn't say we looked uncomfortable.

Just got home. What. A. Day. Unforgettable.
This is the first few months my kids have had a team to be proud of in their time attending matches over the past three years or so. Today has done so much to cement their love for Charlton, which is amazing, especially as they haven't grown up in London, and especially when all their classmates support Liverpool and Spurs.
I am unbelievably proud of my club today. I am proud of my Charlton roots, I am proud of our community.
Charlton 'til I Die.

Playoff finals aren't there to be enjoyed as a spectacle, as winning is all that counts.
Defensively we were excellent today, and while Mannion didn't have any tough saves to make, his handling and claiming was really reassuring, it got to the point that when Orient crossed the ball, I was expecting Mannion to catch it.
As an attacking force we didn't offer much, but then we didn't need to really go for it once we got the goal. I've been a bit confused why Mbick has jumped into first team consideration so quickly, as he offered very little today, and Kanu can feel hard done by, but that's a minor quibble.
Gilbert wasn't outstanding today, but did a job for the first hour until that bad missed challenge. I don't know whether that was fatigue or lack of concentration, but given the same intensity of pre-season that the rest of our team had last summer, I'm sure he would be better. What he DID do though was plant seeds of doubt in their keeper's mind for the free kick. Having a left footer and a right footer standing over the ball, and nobody knowing who would take it made his job a lot harder.9
