I would also normally if on the jubilee line change onto the met line by crossing the platform at Finchley Rd
That’s the one, sheeple always talk about changing at Baker St but those in the know change at Finchley Road.
Why swap to the MetLine at all ?

    is it just quicker?
Yeah the Met misses out a lot of weird stops for places that no-one has ever heard of that the Jubilee stops at (where the fuck is Dollis Hill?)
    A Hill in Dollis

No!! Just get a cab to Spray street. Liz line to Farringdon and change on the Met Line. Jobs a good un.
    Where's Spray Street? Woolwich?
I think you had a thread on where to get dropped off in Woolwich for the Elizabeth Line? And you chose Spray street if i remember.

Tho as it is a Sunday Spray street is a bit of a nightmare due to free parking and the churches so get out on Vincent Road and walk a little further.
Yep where the bull pub used to be.

Eltham Addicks get the train to London Bridge and the Jubilee to Wembley (just under an hour total duration). What’s all this nonsense about driving to North Greenwich?
Agree totally. Why are you messing about going to North Greenwich? Bexleyheath Line is fully operational Sunday. Get a south-eastern train from Eltham to London Bridge and then Jubilee Line to Wembley.

Alternatively, stay on the same south eastern train until Charing Cross, Bakerloo line to Baker Street area for food and drink stop and then fast, frequent Chiltern Line train from Marylebone to Wembley.
Because when I asked for time comparison on the web, with the starting point Eltham and NG, it gave NG as the clear winner. Then when I fed in the 3rd option of Liz line from Woolwich it said that was comparable to NG/Jubilee, but Eltham still wasn't getting a look in.

Thing is too, as @guinnessaddick says, 2/4 mean a change at Lewisham. We did this in 2019. The Loop line train that came in, was absolutely rammed. Since my sister is offering to drop us at any of these three places (her gaff is about 12 mins walk from Eltham station and I'm still walking a bit slower than usual) it's not really messing around.

When it comes to the Met line we did that switch in 2019 and I seem to recall it was nice. We got seats. Can't recall if we got on at Finchley Road tho' might have been Baker Street.
The "Loop trains"  going up the Bexleyheath line towards London on Sunday morning are all coming round from the Woolwich line ie not from Sidcup i.e. I dont think any Charlton supporters in the Charlton/Woolwich area would use these to travel into central London. There are no loop trains coming round from the Sidcup area onto the Bexleyheath line.
If using the Bexleyheath line the change at Lewisham normally means staying on the same platform (to pick up the London Bridge train which is about 8 minutes later)  but you can also do this at Blackheath if you dont want to walk to change platforms. At worse it means using the subway foot tunnel (stairs) at Lewisham station to cross to another platform.

Be aware that getting dropped off by a private car at North Greenwich is a pain. Lots of cameras just waiting to issue a fine for straying into the wrong lane. The private car drop off point is also quite a distance from the station entrance in Millennium Way. Basically, taking a private car towards North Greenwich is really discouraged and has been made as difficult as possible in recent years. Its a similar situation with the Liz line station at Woolwich ie you have to get dropped off a distance from the station.

I'm not sure the following statement is totally helpful but after years of using online journey planners (mainly TFL's) I can state that it does fairly regularly ignore the fairly obvious / most straightforward routes. Then its a case of "you pays your money and takes your choice"  and hoping.
  • I’m gonna be surrounded by Orient until Baker St 🙈
  • @tallboy appreciate the advice, including re access at NG. However my brother claims he has some kind of foolproof drop off point , which he regularly uses to drop his wife off there. I will interrogate him though😉

I suppose Blackheath is a change option, I normally dont mind changing but the thing is knowing we ‘ll change to a train which will already be full. But once I know what specifc train we’d catch from Eltham, I’ll check the travel planners again.

If you do opt for drop-off I would suggest up before the entrance to the golf range.  Don't go anywhere near the bus stops on the south-bound side; you will get caught
  • Have always used Chiltern Railway from Marleybone, short walk from Baker St for those using Jubilee line coming from Southwark, get in towards rear of train from Kent and S.E London to access Southwark from Waterloo East platforms.
This is quietest and quickest route in my experience.

Coming back from Wembley I take the tube one stop north and then get the southbound from there. Guaranteed seat.
Also some good vegetarian/vegan/Jain Indian restaurants by Kingsbury Station if you fancy a bite to eat.
  • Bakerloo line and extra walk to and from the ground is the best bet if you don't want to be too crowded.on the tube

Agreed. Though it's been a long time since I lived in London, we visit regularly and stay in various places, so I have got used to questioning the route suggested when it looks a bit haphazard. I usually break it down into sections if I am suspicious. But in this case, they have come up trumps for me.

*EDIT* I also used to be a rep, and covered most of London over the years, so I do have a good sense of where places are in relation to other places, if you see what I mean.

Never actually thought of that until we did Wycombe away the other week. Journey from Marylebone to Wembley was very quick, and I believe it's still an oyster zone.
  • We are going from Bromley South to Victoria, meeting friends there & then tube to Marylebone (Victoria line to Oxford circus & change to Bakerloo line). Then overground to Wembley Stadium. More direct & less people (I hope).

At North Greenwich, car park one allows 15 mins to drop off for free

TFL ZONE 4, as are Wembley Central & Wembley Park Stations.
If using Oyster you have to tap in then tap out, so if you get the tube and then the Chiltern line it will cost you more....in the greater scheme of things this won't matter to most but some I guess are on a tight budget.

You need to leave early if, like Mrs Hex and me, you are coming from the 20th century.  Also, make sure your wife has read Wembley's bag policy before you leave !

PS I remembered the obligatory engine number !!!!

That's a lot of luggage foea play off match.

From Victoria wouldn’t you just take the Victoria line to Green Park (only one stop) and then onto the Jubilee? That would be super quick.

  • I'll drive to Abbey Wood from Strood, get the Liz Line to Farringdon and then up to Wembley Park

Be far cheaper than using South Eastern for the first leg of the journey... Aiming to get to Wembley around 11:30am
We are staying in Bexleyheath, TFL planner is suggesting Superloop 3 to Abbey Wood, LIzzy Line to Farringdon, walk to Barbican and the the Metropolitan to Wemberlee Park. Don't get why they are suggesting walk to Barbican?
Perry mate, get to the front of the train at Abbey Wood and go up the escalator to Farringdon tube.

It always suggests the walk to Barbican,  but its quite a  walk, although someone once asserted there is a Underground walkway between stations,  which I've never seen.

There isn’t an underground walkway, used to do the walk between them a lot and it takes a deceptively long time

Jubilee doesn't go to Marylebone. Goes to Baker St though which, I grant you, is a short walk to Marylebone. But I was looking at direct connections.

There is, you just need to know the secret way to go
  • Just park at Stanmore and get the jubilee line south to Wembley Park.
Admittedly this works much better if you live in Barnet.

This was my original plan before deciding to stay over with family. Plenty of places to park in Stanmore and you’re going the “wrong way” on the tube back so should be relatively empty
  • Bit of a random one but I haven't worn my Charlton shirt for a while and now found it doesn't fit  :s.
Too late to order, does anyone know if stalls will be selling CAFC products
    on Wembley Way??
  • Parking at Asda in Wembley, get there early and find somewhere for breakfast is the plan!
  • Coming from Lincolnshire, so parking up and meeting my daughter at Milton Keynes, train to Watford then Wembley.
