Under 18s

edited April 2013 in General Charlton
It finished Charlton 2 Colchester 0.Goals from Harry Gerard a header from a corner that just went over the line.Second came from Ahearne-Grant, now been confirmed as Muldoon, when he tapped in.We had a number of other chances that we were unable to convert. Some good performances from Gerard,Lennon and Edwards but the star of the show for me was Joe Gomez who is a class act.Let us hope we are able to hang onto him and some of the other players. We looked a class above Colchester who had a couple of half chances, but we never looked like losing.

Team:

Phillips
Pyke,Gomez,Lennon,Edwards
Poyet
Ahearne-Grant,Holmes-Dennis,Muldoon
Gerard
Sho-Silva

Subs Thomas,Stewart,Kennedy,Adeloye,Umerah.

Yes, saw the game...would like to add that Diego Poyet was also eye catching, but to me it seems he needs to now have the challenge of a higher level of football.
If the youth team win at Brizzle at the weekend I believe they win their championship.

Thanks DP - always good to see your reports on the youngsters. With so many double-barrelled names in the team it looks like we are playing with 14; probably feels that way to some of the opposition too :-)

We play a very fluid style of football at U18 level which is in contrast to lots of other teams who tend to play in straight lines.I would love to see the first team play in this style but we need the players to make it work.Hope to see a number of academy players force their way into first team contention in the next couple of years. We need to try and get category A status to reach the next level. We need to play against the Chelsea's and Arsenals of this world.

Our LB Archie Edwards deserves a mention - especially as he was playing "up" from his age group in a very competitive game.

Promising to see us doing so well and as DP says, lets hope some hang around and we actually get to see them, especially for the ValleyGold members who are helping pay for these young lads footy education.

How come Archie is playing LB?? He was one of the best attacking midfielders in Essex

They seem to convert midfielders into full backs. They did it with Holmes-Dennis who ironically is now back playing in midfield.

Anyone know anything about Rhys Brown the trialist or is it much more difficult knowing them at this young age?
  • Options
I remember seeing Konchesky's debut and he was 16

The only Rhys Brown I could find that was 18 is this chap http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reece_Brown_(footballer,_born_1996) would be a bit odd if Brum let him come to us on trial considering he's played a handful of first team games

I googled "Rhys" and only just realised it came back as "Reece" any ideas on who he is DP?

I think that is him. I have been unable to go to Football or anything else recently as I am recovering from the removal of my prostate. Hopefully I will be fit and well for the new Season. I am really missing not going, but our form has got better since I stopped going.

How's the recovery going? I'll be in your position in a month's time.

The recovery is going well thank you, I had a few minor problems after the operation which are now healing. I have just had the catheter removed. The specialist says I can't drive at the moment. Good luck with your operation I hope it all goes well. It really is not as bad as I thought it would be.

The U18's are currently playing their title decider at QPR. They've already qualified for the play offs, but a win would see them win the division title.

TEAM - Prall, Barnes, Edwards, Gomez, Yao, Thomas, Cook, Kennedy, Lapslie, Umerah, Ahearn-Grant.

Subs: Hanlan, Kelly, Brown, Leon, Bokcui.
