I can't remember the name of the film but the one where a hitman (for some reason I remember it being David Bowie) shoots a dog is a good film for dog haters.
John Wick ? He’s a hitman whose dog is killed but he doesn’t shoot a dog and David Bowie definitely isn’t in it ? Other than that a can’t think of what film you are thinking about.
It’s late ‘70s or early ‘80s and I remember a lift door opens, the dog yaps and the bloke shoots it. May have had Martin Short in it.
Does this happen in Inner Space? I think the crazy bad guy chasing him shoots a kids balloon with his finger so maybe shoots a dog too?

Uncle Buck is as corny as they come. But I love it. The scene when he is loading the washing machine and orders it to take his mighty load when the woman outside is listening makes me laugh every time.
Decent British film fron the 40s/50s/60s with a good story
You do realise not everyone is 70 years old right ? There are plenty of great films on during Christmas. You just been to be more broad minded and remember it’s 2018.
There is not one film worth watching for whole Christmas period
I took out a free trial subscription on the Amazon BFI channel. In the last couple of days I've watched In Which We Serve, Battle of the River Plate and Secret Agent. Still a few more oldies to watch before I cancel the subscription.

You may be thinking of 'Mary, Mungo and Midge' but I don't remember Mungo getting shot.

mate you should check out Talking Pictures or Retro (Talking Pictures is defiantly on freeview but i'm not sure about Retro.). both channels have some cracking older British (and american) films.
