Playoffs?

If we do the unlikely thing and get a result at soton tuesday we could be late challengers for the playoffs. Im not getting carried away with a win because it was a win that ended a really bad run, I just think now we will go into games with alot more confidence.
We are roughly 10 points off 6th and roughly the same from the bottom. We are very mid-table but a late run of winning 5 of our last 7 COULD see us snatch 6th.

Is it possible?

Ok its extremely unlikely. I see why it looks like im getting carried away and all that but it was more of a suggestion that it is still possible. If we finally won a game a few weeks ago the idea would probably get taken more seriously. Looks like its Its too late.

5 wins wouldn't be enough, we'd have to win all 7. Which we won't.

I know, I still want to cling on to a bit of hope for this season :-) but it remains an absolute outside chance we would really have to hit some form eh...
But you can always bring back this thread if by some miracle it happens ;-)
And football has had plenty of strange happenings - we witnessed one with jonesy and bwp today :-)

It was more of the manner of the win that got me thinking. After looking at the mathematical possibility and what we have to do its not gana happen.

If we win our next 3 (very doubtful) it will be in the back of the mind as a possibility and will have to look at the league table and check our playoff chance.

Footballs a funny game strange things do happen.

I'm afraid not we can only get 74 points now which I don't think would be enough.

53 points means we will not go down.

I actually laughed at this post.

Just shows some fans of ours are fickle, one win then we are on top of the world lol

Oh well I'm trying to be positive even if it is very unlikely. It's not about suddenly feeling on top of the world after a win, it's more relief that we just ended a really bad run of going 11/12 games without a win.

It's good to see some positivity Dave . I'm all for it after what we have had to put up with in the last couple of months. I just think we have left It way too late to think about the Play Offs.

This post has been misunderstood, I don't suddenly think we are playoff contenders because we won a game. It wouldnt suprisre me much if we got heavily beaten by soton on Tuesday, returned to bad form or our form was patchy.
I think we proved something to ourselves today, we were not absolutly outstanding but in the 2nd half for the first time I've seen in a while we gave it a go, looked hungry for goals, more ergency to win the game and we got our reward.

I think in some cases you are only as good as your last game.

Don't let this lot pish on your bonfire Dave21. You keep believing want you want to mate (oh, and keep taking the tablets!)
  • Maybe, no one saw us losing all those games, so whos to say we wont get to playoffs. never know about anything like this until its over and the last game is played
  • One win in twelve gives you the answer.

I've looked at tables from recent years and no team has ever made the play offs with 74 points.

I think we'll get some wins and be within spitting distance of the play-offs, but not make it. We can spend the summer months on here discussing exactly which games we threw away turned out to be key. Typical summer for lifers!
