Yoshinofuji is the real deal! The bashou has been turned on its head! To quote Brian Moore, 'It's up for grabs now'.1
-
3 days left so i guess the top three will start facing each other today.
Yoshinofuji was very unlucky on day 12.1 -
Really hoping for a 3-way play off.1

The key factor is that neither of Aonishiki’s feet is in contact with the dojo. If he’d have somehow grounded a toe on the Tawada when first landing he’d have won it.Friend Or Defoe said:

Looks a tight call but the technically the correct decision.1 -
Wow! A three way tie going in to the last day!1
-
Gonna be a cracker.
If Aonishiki beats Kotozakura, we have a play off, otherwise Hoshoryu will fight Onosato for all the marbles.
Can’t wait.

Onosato pulls out with a shoulder injury.0
-
We have a second European champion and he's only 21!1

Shame about Onosato (think I heard dislocation but it was done when defeating Aonisiki on day 13 and he certainly looked well off when losing yesterday).
Many congratulations Aonishiki.
Nailed on next Yokozuna.

Just caught up, definitely can't take anything away from Aonishiki, he looks the part. Hope Onosato can recover soon2

Does he need to win the Hatsu Bashou to gain the rank, or does the two in a row rule not apply like it didn't to Hoshoryu?!PeanutsMolloy said:Shame about Onosato (think I heard dislocation but it was done when defeating Aonisiki on day 13 and he certainly looked well off when losing yesterday).

According to google the youngest Yokozuna was 21 years and 2 months!0 -
The rule is you have to win or post a “winning score” as runner up (jun yusho) twice in a row. 13 wins would suffice or (if the other occasion was a win) maybe even only 12, especially if then beaten in a play off. I think they’ll take note of who you’ve beaten as well.Friend Or Defoe said:

Futahaguro was promoted to Yokozuna on the back of two jun-yusho in 1986 and was the first Yokozuna to never win a tournament in the top division ever. After his promotion he never posted a score over 13, fighting in only 8 basho as Yokozuna before retiring.

Don't the two wins have to be while already ranked as Ozeki? I thought that was the rule. He's only just achieved that rank now, so I was expecting this win not to count for Yokozuna purposes?0
-
Has he been promoted to Ozeki? Will certainly deserve it0
-
Hoshoryu's Yokozuna winning Bashou involved a playoff against 2 rank and filers! The previous Bashou he scored 13 and finished second so all above board.0

He's being promoted tomorrow.McBobbin said:Has he been promoted to Ozeki? Will certainly deserve it2 -
I saw a news item on YouTube which said it's been confirmed but hasn't happened yet. Some quotes from his stable master about how pleased he was to have been persuaded to take a chance on this guy when he'd not intended having a non-Japanese member of the squad.McBobbin said:Has he been promoted to Ozeki? Yes, that’s right but if he were to win in Jan and beat both Yokozuna in the process (a tall order admittedly though he’s 4-0 vs Hoshoryu), I wouldn’t be surprised if they consider tweaking the rules.Swindon_Addick said:Don't the two wins have to be while already ranked as Ozeki? He’ll surely make it anyway at some point in 2026, barring injury.0 -
Officially now an Ozeki.3
