Would like to see us try Apter at LWB. Natural left footer and would add width. Deserves a start
Apter is not a wing-back. Nor is Campbell. They are both wingers.

Play Rankin-Costello there to retain our normal shape, then bring on Enslin if we are trailing at 60mins. If we ain't, so much the better. I would be happy with a point given three defenders out.

It will, probably around 17-18k I reckon. A far cry from the 6,000 odd rattling around the Valley on a Tuesday night a couple of years ago.

I hope Grant and Bielik stay on the bench but you just know they will raise their game.

Realistically, these are the options although you could swap who plays LWB/RWB on most of them
Was gonna say this - reckon itll be 2 or 4 of this depending on which side he wants the attacking wing back. I suspect 4 as feel Apter deserves to get back in the side.

Bree and Costello as the wing backs would be the safe option. With the option to bring Apter or Fullah on later in the game to replace one of them if we need more attackers
I worry now with Bell, Burke and Edwards out that we are only a Lloyd Jones injury away from defensive collapse, given NJ's whole success has been built on excellent defending.

If Nathan Jones doesn’t rate him at RWB, where that wingback gets to Freeroam forward there’s 0% chance he plays him at LWB where they’re expected to be more defensive to allow TC to operate the Space on the left

I think the LWB needs to be a good defensive option. So either Costello or Bree. Gillesphey isn’t quick enough to cover behind an attacking wing back, would be fine if we had Bell there but he’s obviously injured.

I’d go with Apter RWB and Bree LWB, but would be reasonably happy with Costello on the left and Bree on the right.

The other option is the 4-2-3-1, with Ramsay LB and then Apter and TC on the wings

People are so keen give up the 3pts in a game as a’free shot’ no such thing,if we missed out on say the playoffs because we approached some games as a free shot would people be happy? And what happens if we start losing our non free shots?. It’s the biggest make yourself feel  better if we lose comment on here.
    Rule 1:
Always play your strongest side, manage the minutes for players that need that.

Although I do remember Jose Riga pulling off a great escape .....by picking his strongest, fittest side for the games he considered the most 'winnable'.

Was expecting a few more Saturday when in the week they had said we’ve passed 20,000 again, then it was only 400 over that! Don’t get me wrong though it’s great to see good numbers back at the valley.

Agree, but I don’t think we should be in that mindset of doing things just to survive, luckily NJ doesn’t and it’s only a section of our doubting Thomas fans.

Don't think NJ knows the meaning of a free shot, every game is a "one at a time" Project, and each one he will try to win, and the same applies to Tuesday and next Saturday, we will do well to finish with 4 points going into the next break...of course 6 would be good.
Think 3 points which would probably be looked at as bonus points at the start of the season cause you would have expected WBA to be doing better would take the pressure of the Wrexham game whether you call that a free hit ?? … personally if  I was offered defeat tomorrow and beating Wrexham think I would take that now lol
Get 3 points tomorrow night and getting 3 more points on Saturday will be that much easier. Lose tomorrow night and Saturday becomes a much tougher game. Approach each game as if it’s the biggest game of the season and we want to win it whatever it takes.
    Good post.

Many people rarely seem to consider players' mental and emotional impact of winning and losing matches.

A player and his team's belief and confidence is everything.

Believe you can win, you can.
But without belief, you will struggle

Though survival wasn't the point I was trying to make.

NJ neither - his policy is always to set up to get the 3 points each game.

On the other hand, my Jose Riga analogy was merely to point out that he was successful, by cherry picking those games he considered winnable - not that it should be NJs
    strategy

Yes sorry mate wasn’t suggesting you were, I get your point with Riga, circumstances are different now thank god, which is why I’m trying to ride the wave of positivity it’s been so long since we’ve been able to.👍

I'd like to see Fullah and Anderson, if there are forced changes of personnel, but feel they will both need to have impressive games to revitalise the side as a whole. Keep TC on and up the pitch playing his best self. West Brom not performing well of late, and some of their fans very disgruntled after not winning in 4. We may be playing them at a good time.
It's one thing starting Fullah against Stevenage......its another starting him against WBA.

Is doubting Thomas available for selection or is he still injured?

Tough one given the injuries.  Hopefully Jones has a plan and we just need to get behind them all 2mo night and create a good atmosphere.

Pretty well all our games are tight and I can't see this one being any different.

West Brom have a fine history, having spent most of their time in the top flight, and, given that this is their fifth season in the Championship, their supporters are bound to be disgruntled if they're not challenging at the top. In recent years, they had terrible problems with their former Chinese owner, who took a £5 million loan from the club for one of his companies, which he then failed to repay by multiple deadlines. The new American owner sorted the financial mess out early last year but he is bound to want to see signs of progress and Ryan Mason appears to be under some pressure. Hopefully we'll be able to give him an uncomfortable evening, although no one will be underestimating the quality in their squad. Their attacking midfielder, Price, has already scored five times for them this season (as well as against Germany for Northern Ireland) and Maja also has a decent scoring record. Following his return from injury, Karlan Grant got 30 minutes off the bench on Saturday, so I expect we'll see him at some stage, if not from the start.

Fitness permitting, it's bound to be Jones, Ramsey and Gillesphey in central defence but I've no idea who will start as wing-backs if Nathan wants to give Bree a rest. I'd expect Bree to start in the interests of continuity but, if not, maybe Nathan will (as someone suggested)  go with the experience of Rankin-Costello and Hernandez, with Apter and Fullah available to enter the fray from the bench.

These Tuesday night games, with their small crowds, were often disappointing when we were drifting aimlessly in League 1 but it's a new era and the BBC website reports that we've won eight of their last nine midweek league games, drawing the other, since the nadir of Crawley Town in December 2024. A win tomorrow would put us on 23 points with less than a third of the season gone and an excellent platform for the rest of the season.

Only 2 words to say about this match.

    Karlan Grant.
If he gets on the pitch.  Usually an impact sub now, which shows how far he has fallen from the premier league stars of the future.
If he gets on the pitch please don't boo him as this will lead to him scoring, maybe a wonder goal.
  • Will be interesting to see how we line up tonight. Will Charlies goal on Saturday be the start of a run ?
So far so good though. COYR

Hope Lloyd is fit enough to play, while also not wanting him to push it too much, as rather he be out for a few games resting than be out later for months.

Have a feeling that defence might not be as strong as usual, but with forwards firing.

Going for a rare high scoring win for us. 3-2 under The Valley lights.
