  • It is concerning he hasn't scored in 10, but, he is adjusting to a higher standard of football in a new team, and we are undoubtedly a worse team when he comes off.

Josh Sargent is probably the best striker in this league, but I specifically remember Norwich fans at the Valley in 2022 chanting "If Sargent scores, we're on the pitch". It isn't always easy for a striker to hit the ground running, unless they're special.

He is on a long contract, and Nathan Jones specifically wanted him. He will get going at some point 👍🏻
This is true but i do wonder if when he saw the fee that Kone ended up going for, and he could turn back the clock whether he'd have preferred to sign him instead of Kelman.

Wycombe reportedly turned down 7m from Luton in January, so i guess there was an expectation they'd want a similar price, yet he went for 2.75m rising to 5m with add ons.

I thought he played well against Millwall and every game since, we haven't created fuck all for him and I don't think having Godden in the team would have made any difference, the main problem is getting subbed after 60 minutes of every game. I thought he had a very good game Saturday.

I have not been at all impressed with him. Can’t head the ball, not strong enough. I think we have done another Ahadme, paid good money for him. I still can’t believe that Jones is picking Kelman and Campbell every week. Hope to see Leaburn and Oloafe upfront tonight. At least it will give us some physical presence. Bring Kelman and Campbell on if it doesn’t work.

Would be surprised if Leaburn started, not sure he’s done enough to start when coming on, unless it’s just a change to freshen things up. He needs to be stronger also, especially with his size, championship defenders love the battle and seem to be getting the better of Miles at the moment.

I can't compare him to Ahadme. From the outset, it was clear that Gas lacked technical ability, had poor balance and little awareness of what was around him. He should not have been signed - it was a scouting failure.

I think Kelman has more foundation to his game than that.

Godden would know where to be to get those chances and can create stuff for himself there’s a reason he scored so many goals despite having no creativity alongside or behind him, Kelman may not have had enough chances to say he’s a bad finisher and not clinical but his attacking positioning in the box has been atrocious there’s no point having a good trait if it’s been completely hindered by something else

He just doesn't seem to "bust a gut" like you'd hope. That's not to say he doesn't work, but if he was putting in the kind of shift Conor Gallagher used to do then I don't think there would be too many complaints. And he's not exactly gone full throttle in a couple of challenges, which is never going to come across well. Hard to warm to at the moment but hopefully it will come.

Think he can’t win on the challenges thing. From memory they’ve been against keepers who get a free kick when brushed, go in forcefully in a tackle and he’s getting a yellow at best and being called silly

Not always, as Tanto showed on Saturday when he was clattered by the Wednesday keeper

Score after 60 minutes when Kelman has started - the equivalent of 19 points from 9 matches and not a goal conceded:

    Watford  0-0
    Bristol City  0-0
    Millwall 1-0
    Sheff Utd 0-0
    Blackburn 1-0
    Derby 1-0
    Preston 0-0
    Sheff Wed 2-0
    Ipswich 2-0

That is the track the NJ runs on and trusts. Whether Kelman scores or not is almost incidental. As I keep stressing, it's the sum of the total that counts.

In 2022-23 Chuba Akpom was top Championship scorer with 28 goals and in the following season Sammie Szmodics was top Championship scorer with 27 goals. They haven't a goal between them this season and sometimes too many options, especially when a manager feels that he has to keep chopping and changing to keep them all happy, can confuse things. NJ prefers to keep it simple until such time as that stops working.

Not scored? It will come. He’s a key player for us
  • It his effect that was well saved for a corner, was what led to it being 2-0 wasn't it?

Honestly, if you are still questioning Kelman as a player, you can take a long hard look in the mirror and repeat the word clueless! His goals will come but he is so important to the way we play! Get off his fucking back, seriously.

The last 2 games he’s been outstanding imo. Obviously he needs a goal but his all round play is good
  • We're going to get promoted with a 20 goals a season striker.

He was class tonight, his running off the ball for Careys goal took a defender away. Once he gets that 1st goal there will be no stopping him👊

First real shot at goal I have seen him having, forcing a top save out of the keeper, more of that!

It’s coming. It’s coming. He’d have scored Saturday but for an excellent recovery from a Wednesday defender. That run and shot he had tonight wasn’t the stuff of a player lacking confidence and hinted at what he has in his locker (can’t recall Godden hitting a shot that hard or cleanly from distance, for example).

Just willing him to get one soon.

He could never score again and I'd be happy if he turns out performances like the last couple, he is a danger and his pressing and movement creates so much space and opportunities for others

Might sound ridiculous, but I reckon Mbick is a better option for our system.
Based on a couple of goals he's scored in the league below the one in which Kelman won the golden boot last season?
No mate, as I said "for our system". Mbick just looks like a more rounded striker. If we are going to play TC down the side running from deep, then I believe the essentially lone striker needs to have more of a physical presence. Kone would have been ideal.

Lets be honest, Mbick might not have scored more than Kelman but he certainly wouldn't have scored less. And goals is supposed to be Kelman's main currency. How many assists has he got?

Absolutely incredible that we live in a world where people can just write complete waffle like this on a public forum and people have to give it any credit.

He put in a good performance tonight,  but let's not get over the top about it. Miles was even  better when he came on, better hold up play of course, but his running with the ball caused the Ipswich defence so many problems,  as the ball really stuck to his feet.

In the first half Kelman did seem to play as a sort of target man, a couple of nice flick ons, but little goal threat as he was so deep. In the second he was a bit more involved,  good movement for Carey's goal and that excellent shot which was well saved.

I know this is said in jest, but Aneke & Ahadme both scored 1 league goal each last season and both featured in 47 games in total for us and we still got promoted despite of that

Plenty of waffle on this thread, and youve just added to it. We're all happy with the win but for some reason you want to have a go.

On this thread Kelman is treated like hes a 7 year old son, proud of his stick man drawing so its going on the fridge.

If we get a few losses in a row, and god willing we won't, then the mood will change on him, youll see.

Looked far much better alongside Tanto got to play with much more space and roam a bit more rather than be that focal point and outlet up top. Nice to see him actually have a proper shot as well encouraging performance tonight

I mean he’s doing reasonable (recently a better shift than previous) but the over egging him being anywhere near anything half decent is desperate .
he has a strike on him , Derby away he pinged a similar effort from the other side of the box .
There’s not much between any of the strikers playing atm but he’s probably the weakest of em .
NJ is a miracle worker and if he sees fit to play him then I’m all for it .

Kelman was ok without being great, Tanto did nothing, and TC and Leaburn did very well when they came on, so i think Jones has a tricky job deciding who to start on Saturday.

I'd assume he will revert back to TC/Kelman.

TC and Miles came on with the game stretched and had the space to play, that time in the game was perfect for them.

Leaburn and Kelman had to play within two entirely different scenarios.
