  • In hindsight (yes I know) - perhaps Apter might have been more effective to bring on, to help counter on the break - did wonder if that Ramsay chance had fallen to Apter whether we might have nicked it
  • We've come a long way to be slightly disappointed with an away point. Think the warning sings were there in the first half, if you let a team have 20+ crosses into the box they are bound to eventually score.
A man really living up to his username. 😀
    Nominative determinism at its finest.

First time away from home that we've been leading at half time and i'm sure NJ will have a look at what we could have done differently because we stopped playing and were just happy to hoof it up field most of that half. However, i'm not complaining and a point away in any division is decent. Bree's goal was beautiful - a real cheese cutter.
I always thought "cheese cutter" was a fart euphimism?

The Carey sub was what changed the game, he needed to come off because he was knackered but we were much less solid after that. In the first half it felt like we had a midfield 3, but with Knibbs on it felt like we had a front 3 instead and Cov and Doch were left exposed with a lot of ground to cover.

Knibbs is great pressing from the front but his starting position was too high for me. Left too much space behind him
  • I really want Charlie to be given the whole game, him when the game opens up will be great for us, he's doing all his work when the game is tight
  • Think we might need to freshen it up for Saturday. Lots of players looked leggy by the 70th minute. Worrying thought Coventry looked the most knackered and we don't really have a direct replacement for him.
  • Just watched the highlights. What an awful goal to give away. No one really pressuring the guy who headed it, and I’m sure Jones won’t be happy with Kaminski’s attempt to save it. on the plus side, our goal was rather good.
GK had no chance edge of 6 yard box the only place the keeper could not get it and he put it there .. Kaminski saved us the point last night and looked very calm and unflappable
  • Don’t think the club will be happy with this they are looking at Zach as an understudy to Coventry
Zach Mitchell at the end of the transfer window from Charlton Athletic, earning another loan in the Premiership after impressing at St Johnstone. He has not featured at senior level yet but in order to build match minutes, travelled to Paisley with the youth side

  • We fell away in that last 30 minutes, looked less joined up. But no complaints, we didn't crumble and lose. Even created chances to win. Derby really improved, too. Happy with a point.

This was the in-play table, I think all other results stayed as they were.

Good point. Fair result. Onwards and upwards!
    I would say……onwards and sideways!
Was disappointed with their equaliser, we somehow threw away the chance of the three points and then had to dig in exceptionally hard not to throw away all three in the closing stages.
I was largely pleased with our performance though.

I'd agree but I see it as positive that we DID dig in - yes there was a wobble which is a bit concerning but never did the wheels fall off completely as they have with some previous Charlton teams.
  • To be fair pre NJ, we would probably thrown all the points away after they equalised.
  • Wasn't at our best yesterday and could still have won it.

Amazing goal. One of the best I've seen us score when you include the build up.

Poor second half. Although I thought we were comfortable until the Kaminski save at 1-0 but we just couldn't stop the waves of Derby attacks with a lack of possession or control.

Slightly disappointed but we deserved a point at the most.

If you have Sky, the whole game is being repeated now
  • I would have been happy with a point before the game but I'm disappointed we didn't take all 3. We dominated for long periods and created chances even in the later part of the game when Derby were more in possession. If we had got a second in the first half I really couldn't see Derby coming back from that but we didn't and as the second half progressed we looked a bit ragged especially after the substitutions which I feel added nothing and perhaps unbalanced us.
Bree's goal, the best goal so far this season for us. The control by Kelman from our keepers punt and then the passing and finish was worth the entry fee alone.
If we can keep this style of play, (first half), we shouldn't have too much to worry about this season. Its nice to see us playing with a bit of aggression when not in possession, closing down and restricting space to play in.

  • I have a little bit of sympathy with Golfie, i'm very happy we're a competitive Championship side, solid defensively, good press and incredibly hard working.  However to say we play 'good football' is a massive stretch imo, not that i particularly care because we are picking up results, but when results go a bit south i expect there will be a fair amount of criticism about our industrial football.
  • Thought the ref was decent tonight...
    He certainly wasn't a homer !
The lack of crying by our fans re the ref

    90%  decisions went our way
    10% he was fair

100% if we’d been on the receiving end of that refereeing performance we’d be boooooing up masssively

What happened to having defenders on the post - would have cleared that header no problem

ok , Kelman had a sublime touch for first goal but to suggest he has turned the corner is clutching at straws. He did very little.....again.
You forgot him proper mincing out of that challenge on the keeper when he put in a half hearted attempt , a more robust challenge could quite easily have led to a goal but he didn’t want to know .
Shame cos I think there could be a player in there but he’s currently showing the lion from the wizard of oz bravery

Yeah thought that was strange, you'd think he'd be desperate to really go at opportunities like that.

I know it's early and I know the point feels a bit disappointing but how nice does this look?

Particularly as TC, Leaburn, Kelman, and Godden (granted he’s been out injured) haven’t notched a goal in the league, yet, I think it’s incredible, we are where we are.

If you can get your strikers scoring, we’d be a lot higher in the table, probably in the top 6.

If there all still on a low goals tally, maybe that’s where we need to invest in, in January?
I doubt we have budget left to be honest, even if we did can’t exactly carry 6 strikers on the books, we have 4 very young strikers have to trust in Jones to develop them
Would help if they got some service. Problem is our set up negates that. TC cant deliver a cross & isnt really a wide man either. Bree is about the only player who can put a decent ball in the box.....but not helped by having Kelman& TC trying to finish it off. Carlton Morris would thrive in this team.

Unfortunately we will just have to put up with the fact that we wont score many goals. Our defence is sound so shouldn't let in too many. Not a great watch tbh, but then we all wanted promotion and drawing away to Derby is a lot better than losing away to Burton....so it is what it is.
I think it's been a great watch golfie. We're 8th in the league, and have played some properly good football. And playing the Charlton way.

What are you expecting if you think it's not looked good mate?

It’s not a complaint because I’m very pleased to be  out of League One (hopefully for many years) but I don’t see how you can find it ’great to watch.’ I think that you’re too influenced by results if that’s your opinion.
We have our moments of beautiful play like the build up to our goal yesterday, but otherwise we’re a team that play long balls in possession and bite at the oppositions’ heels out of possession. It creates a game of lots of stops and starts and generally attritional football.

I’ve watched 4 games (Watford, Leicester,  Millwall, Derby (all on TV so far)) and there is little entertainment. The best was probably Millwall in this respect imo. As a spectator the feeling is akin to how Kelman probably feels playing. That’s probably the best way of describing how I feel actually: if we played to Kelman’s strengths then we’d be playing more free flowing on the ground football which is better to watch.

That said, I just want us to stay up. If we did that by banging it 1000 miles into the air 60 times a match to get 0-0 draws, 46 points and stay up on GD then it would be job done for this and next season.
  • Win your home games get what you can away

As expected it being our first Tuesday of the season we were flagging after 60 mins. Keeper made some great stops and the team as a whole done really well. Happy days
  • 9 game blocks.

We're looking quite comfortable with 1 game left in the first block. 1.5PPG average.

Could end up as 1.33, 1.44 or 1.66 after Saturday. All of which are better than I expected.
  • Nice goal from Thierry Small yesterday too
    So what.🫤
    Exactly, so what.
  • TC reminds me of a bedroom guitarist, can play incredible stuff by themselves but can’t sit in the groove of a band and serve the song.
