  • I think we paid the price for not rotating a little more for a midweek game. We looked good but tired very early. Hence the early subs. But we still looked leggy. More fresh legs Saturday pls.
  • I think the Preston match, will be the toughest of the 3 games, we’ll have played this week.
The fixture list has been pretty unkind really, to have to follow a tough midweek away game with an even tougher Saturday away game.
  • Very avoidable goal to give away. The initial corner came from Bell hacking it out, when he had time to either clear upfield, or for the Keeper to help him out. Small details, but the goal followed from that corner being overhit, then fed back in again.
  • Wondering if the change of formation helped or hindered
  • look how gutted they all are. we drew to a good Championship side with a good coach and a 8 figure front line and they look like we lost. not only do we have a team who are together and get Charlton but they are hungry and ambitious

Didn’t change the formation, it’s clear NJ saw them putting balls in the box to Morris and thought we needed to be much more physical so brought on 3 big players, just didn’t work out
  • Good point important not to lose to teams that we want to be below us .. first half we were excellent great touch from Kelman who was very good tonight .. great finish … but we seemed to lose ourselves once we made the first set of changes we never really got a hold in the game again did not help with Derby having about 5 strikers on the pitch but two excellent saves by Kaminski gave us the point we deserved …. Could have snatched it but a very good point

    Evening Ronnie
1.Do you agree that Campbell made the vital contribution to our goal?
2.Do you agree that it all fell to pieces as soon as Campbell went off?
  • ... the fresh Knibbs looked absolutely dead on his feet with 10 to go!
Reminds me of Alex Gilbey the way his strength suddenly gives out. Do you think he has some medical condition?
  • That'll do.

FFS!! - Just posted on the Match Thread and it was closed.

Basically feel that Olaofe and Leaburn need to do a lot more if they want to start matches, was disappointed with them tonight. Would add Knibbs to that as well

Both have had fewer minutes than Campbell / Kelman, but neither put in the work rate that either starter put in... Yes we lost Carey at the same time, he needs a rest too...

But the absence of the pressure changed the game, first half and the Derby defence were rushing their attacks, because of the running from Campbell, Kelman and Carey, meaning that a lot of balls were ending up at the feet of our own players.

Second half, and that changed the moment Kelman went off, and Campbell was knackered - Neither Tanto or Miles did the same sort of running, which gave Derby more time to build their attacks.
Also Knibbs not as all action as Carey.
He made some good tackles when he come on. So hard to stamp your authority on the game in that position off the bench. He’s one player we need to be patient with.
Oh it wasn't a criticism of Knibbs as such, I just though Carey was more effective, especially defensively. I'd be interested to see heat maps of the two them tonight, as I think Carey's zone of operation was a lot bigger but Knibbs' one  was further forward.

Here you go, Knibbs wasn’t really on long enough for the data to be that useful but you are right

What was Ramsay doing on that break away at the end should have done better
Agree, he had great momentum, surely he should have just laced it, the cross wasn't on from that angle.

Still, it was a great run, very good to see him back to his best after his Millwall performance.

Not the first time that Knibbs has faded after coming off the bench, which is concerning. Maybe he's one of those players who needs to play 90s to keep himself match fit?
  • Definitely missed Edwards.

Not sure that’s true. Their attacking threat came down our right on the whole
  • Midweek up norf support was decent 1093 👌👍🤝
  • At the end of the day I’m happy with the point. Certainly weren’t at our best today so take it and move on. I know Jones made the early changes with one eye on Saturday which is fine if we get a result on Saturday but if not then three points were there for the taking tonight.

I thought the defence looked a bit all over the place and Lloyd Jones and Bree were the only ones who shone.

Would have liked to have Kelman stay on a bit longer, had a very good game. Neither Tanto and especially Miles did enough to warrant a start. Carey had a good first half, pressing well, and both Coventry and Docherty put in shifts again.

Onwards and upwards but an excellent start to the season.

Make that +2 for us in the posh seats and reckon there were a few more around us too.

    Fair result.

Not at our best but still looked “at it”. Can’t call anyone in this squad lazy and when I think back to the last few years of Gilbey, Kirk and Fraser, and many others, it’s actually quite frightening where we are now.

Obviously the current usuals of Bree, Jones etc etc were good but special shout-out for Kelman. Thought he was excellent and that touch to set the move up was something else. Praying he gets a goal soon to set him on his way. He really needs it because it’s 8 games now…

The goal for this season still remains to finish above 22nd place and that’s another point towards that.

Wycombe 20th and Leyton Orient 17th in League One by the way…We’ve come a hell of long way since Crawley at home.

Such a pleasure watching this side - the most likeable team since 2011/12. When I watch Charlton is quite literally the only time I wish I still lived in England. Love em. Up the Addicks.

Despite the fourth paragraph we are going to be just fine this season. Nothing to fear.

    COYR.
  • Are the squad staying ‘up North’ now rather than travelling home and back again on Friday?

Is that why we saw more of the squad in and around the match day squad?

It would make sense and develop a bit of team bonding.
  • From Cawley's interview with Bree the team aren't staying up north, a nice drive back for them this evening

I’d be surprised but obviously I might be wrong.

Lots of the squad have mrs and kids that they will want to be back for for 3 nights and Jones probably wants to be at “home” at Sparrows Lane on Thursday.

Also this squad doesn’t need team bonding, they’re about as tight knit as it comes!
  • Very happy with that. Wanted a point away and predicted 1-1. Didn't expect such a good goal. A point following a draw and two wins is fantastic for our goal of staying up.

I know it's early and I know the point feels a bit disappointing but how nice does this look?

Particularly as TC, Leaburn, Kelman, and Godden (granted he’s been out injured) haven’t notched a goal in the league, yet, I think it’s incredible, we are where we are.

If you can get your strikers scoring, we’d be a lot higher in the table, probably in the top 6.

If there all still on a low goals tally, maybe that’s where we need to invest in, in January?
I doubt we have budget left to be honest, even if we did can’t exactly carry 6 strikers on the books, we have 4 very young strikers have to trust in Jones to develop them
Would help if they got some service. Problem is our set up negates that. TC cant deliver a cross & isnt really a wide man either. Bree is about the only player who can put a decent ball in the box.....but not helped by having Kelman& TC trying to finish it off. Carlton Morris would thrive in this team.

Unfortunately we will just have to put up with the fact that we wont score many goals. Our defence is sound so shouldn't let in too many. Not a great watch tbh, but then we all wanted promotion and drawing away to Derby is a lot better than losing away to Burton....so it is what it is.
  • Thought we looked leggy and overall the game lacked quality.  We dropped far too deep and conceded all possession and space second half.  It seemed only a matter of time before we conceded but I held out hope our stellar defence would see us through again.  Not to be, but will take a point on the road all day long.

Had to leg it out right on full time for the final London bound train, then on arrival sprinted to the Victoria line figuring I could just make my last train from Victoria.  Got to the underground platform just as the last underground of the night was pulling away.. so will only be arriving home in 5 mins with a work day tomorrow that starts at 8am in the City and likely to finish about 9pm.. I will definitely sleep well tomorrow night at least.

My first trip to Derby, it's a great ground.
  • I get that Bree looked gassed but the Ramsay/Burke combo, while clearly both excellent players, really wasn’t doing it for me on the right.

I think the RCB job belongs to Ramsay/Burke and the RWB job belongs to  Bree/Apter. I might be saying something stupid, especially away from home with Apter, but I don’t think Ramsay slots in as well as Bell does on the other side covering Edwards for the next few weeks.

Could be a shit take but just how I see it.
