    Cracking day.

I watched our U18s beat Colchester United 6-0 in the morning. Then had a Millwall fan (in a Barcelona shirt) threatening to beat me up on the bus for supporting Charlton. Of course, he was all mouth and this quickly changed to bragging about how they were above us in the league. Well, they aren't any more.

Seeing nine Charlton goals in a day is certainly a first and it should have been double figures.
Charlton 9 Apoel Nicosia 0 ....................Only us old gits will remember  :D
I'm sure I've still got the programme for that game.

It'll be boxed up in my dusty attic, of course! 😄
One of my first games as a six year old.
    That's the one!

That program brings back so many memories, at 6d a throw, and the list of achievements on the front cover, wonderful stuff...

6d......just a tanner, in old money.

Just 2 and a half pence today  :)

  • I've just spent 6 days hiking to Santiago along the Santiago de Compostela. Clearly someone upstairs has decided to reward me in this way  :D
@killerandflash, my wife and I are just over halfway to Santiago and get to Leon tomorrow. Watched the game on CharltonTV - great result. How far are you going on the Frances?
A much shorter walk than you! I just did Samos to Santiago,  about 128km and am now on the Thameslink from Gatwick.

Are you walking the whole Frances?
Yes, doing the Frances route for the second time from St Jean Pied de Port to Santiago. I never normally get blisters but had to go to a clinic at the end of today’s walk to get a big one drained and dressed. Should be fit to walk the 18 kms to Leon tomorrow where we are staying for 2 nights.

Bumped into Curtis Fleming in The Pelton Arms after the game. He is apparently a big Smiths fan and was there to watch a tribute band (who were surprisingly excellent). He couldn't have been nicer. Says he thinks Rob Apter has probably been our best player this season and is so unlucky to be out of the team, but James Bree has been outstanding (and in training as well). Also says he rates Lloyd Jones as one of the top CBs in the division. Got the sense he is the good cop to NJ's bad cop - the one putting his arm around players and telling them how good they are when they need to hear it.

He also said the referee was appalling, and he told him at half-time that he was letting the young players down.

And he confirmed that Nathan Jones does live in Greenwich and rides a Lime Bike.

We were a little worse for wear, so hope we didn't annoy him too much! But he is a top bloke.
Got me thinking, just looked at a list of Smith's songs to see how they relate to us.

Nathan Jones/Steve Brown -  Bigmouth strikes again
Kaminski, Mannion, AMB - Hand in glove
Returning to the Valley - Back to the Old House
Chuks - The Boy with the Thorn in his Side
Millwall - Barbarism Begins at Home
    Matt Godden - Handsome Devil
Seth Plum - Meat is Murder
Golfie - Heaven knows I'm miserable now
    Thomas Sandgaard - I started Something I Couldn't Finish
Roland Duchatalet - This Charming Man (NOT)
    Elfsborg/AFKA - Half a Person
Lyle Taylor - Last Night I Dreamt that Somebody Loved Me
Orient - Paint a Vulgar Picture (Vile)
New Owners - Money Changes Everything
Ronnie Moore - Stop Me if You've Heard this One Before (Ty Campbell)
    Tracey Leaburn - Wonderful Woman
    Palace - London (South London)
    Eugene's Axe - I Want the One I Can't Have
    Braziliance - His Latest Flame
Matt Southall - Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want
Charlie Kirk/Scott Fraser - Work is a Four Letter Word
CAST - What Difference Does it Make
Stadium Maintenance - There is a Light That Never Goes Out (or comes on)

Missed a sitter mate... ESI 1 &  ESI 2 -  Strangeways,  here we come.

But also in a difference sense of the words - Duchatelet.

Ditto, except I’m in Granada. Great to see all the happy comments after visiting the Alhambra!

What is  Granada like Jints?, I'm there next week

WOW. Super impressed, good luck for the rest of the walk! I think your body will appreciate the rest in Leon.

I seem to have distracted the post match thread a bit  :D

Grenada is a wonderful country. Enjoy your time there. If you get a chance to explore any of the smaller islands of the Grenadines I would highly recommend. The entire stretch between Grenada and St Vincent is incredible. Mayreaux is my favourite place on earth. Perfect barely touched  paradise. I volunteered at a coral restoration project that did a lot there. Carriacou and Union Island worth visiting, if you're minted then ive heard Canoun is amazing but its all private resort. Any time spent in any of those islands would be well worth it.
Got to be this season's most irrelevant post.

He's not wrong. Grenada is an absolutely wonderful place.
He is wrong in the sense of being 5000 miles out I think. Grenada the city is in Spain whereas Granada the country is in the Caribbean. (?!)

All true mate but he was talking about the Spanish Grenada. But, I’ve been all around that area and you’re spot on. I’ve spent some time on Grenada of course but also Carriacou, Union Island and Palm Island. Not as nice as the Virgin Islands but still not too shabby. Anyway, back on topic…

    COYR!!!

I'm not in Granada but have been there before. It's a wonderful place and the Alhambra is extraordinary. Have fun

    So it is wonderfully irrelevant?
  • Watching the highlights again. Ahhh, juicy!
  • I still have the Nicosia program. I used to walk to the ground from coleraine road, took me 20/25 minutes with my dad. Takes me 2 1/2 hours by train now

I lived off the top of Coleraine Road as a kid.
Did you walk via the top end, Westcombe Park Road or via the bottom end and Woolwich Road?

  • I’m still stunned , first 20 I thought here we go another grinder (for mehmet) of a performance and then with the unlucky/lucky introduction of our Wembley hero we improved massively .
In Sonny Carey we have a player who can ping a ball and has the bollox to have a dig rather than pussyfooting it around and crabbing it to someone else .
The set piece and wiseness of cheesemans as well added to an all round decent performance.
These next 5 games I’d be happy with 7 points after that we’ll really know where we’re at .
1 home game between this and 1st November seems a bit shit but that’s the way the fixtures are .
Mrs taking petrol head to Derby on Tuesday and I think they’re stopping in Luton overnight , weirdos .

    0.5%     Top 2
    6.5%      Play offs
    28%     7th-12th
    56%      13th-21st
    9%       Relegation

    Cheesemans?? His name is Bree!

Lol I was very very sleep deprived. In fairness to me he was replying to a post about Barbados so I assumed it was continuing with the carribean theme!
