Wiping out a player is okay because afterwards he shades the ball with his toe thanks to Gyokeres touching it past him.ForeverAddickted said:Hmm... Not sure on that... Really difficult decision actually.
I think that Pope makes contact with the ball, but cant be sure3 -

Got to start punching strikers when they're through on goal if you're able to get a small touch on the ball it seems.Cafctekkers said:That's a bonkers VAR decision, basically you're allowed to take a player out as long as you get the smallest touch on the ball0 -
            Right decision in the end….0

That decision is beyond farcical. The ball was played onto Pope’s foot and he then cleaned him out. Absolute stonewall penalty and red card.
VAR decisions are getting worse and worse.0 -

Wouldnt have been a Red Card though would it, because of double jeopardy?Clem_Snide said:That decision is beyond farcical. The ball was played onto Pope’s foot and he then cleaned him out. Absolute stonewall penalty and red card.

One rule I can genuinely never work out these days0 -
Would've been a yellow regardless, there was another defender and the ball went off to the side.1

Just seen the decision, if it's Dan Burn making that challenge we say it's a good tackle and the game moves on. Why would it be different for a keeper? It wouldn't be a foul elsewhere on the pitch1

Time for defenders to double-foot strikers through on goal as long as they graze the ball afterwards it seems.fenaddick said:Just seen the decision, if it's Dan Burn making that challenge we say it's a good tackle and the game moves on. FWIW, even I thought it was a penalty...SELR_addicks said:The Liverpool fan ref taking away a stonewall penalty there. Have to laugh.1 -
"There's also a fairly weird issue that needs to be ironed out by IFAB.
When Gillett blew for that penalty Saka had possession in the penalty area (not a prime spot because he'd slowed down).
End result of Arsenal not getting a penalty wasn't even a drop ball but Pope possession."2 -

Double foot? One of his feet is behind him! And it doesn't follow through eitherSELR_addicks said:

I didn't say that's what Pope did. But if the rules are that as long as you graze the ball everything before it is fair game, defenders have free reign to assault strikers as long as they touch the ball afterwards.1 -

But he gave the pen and only took it away after consulting the VAR team. Are they all Liverpool fans too? And corrupt?SELR_addicks said:The Liverpool fan ref taking away a stonewall penalty there. Have to laugh.
Regardless of the rights and wrongs of the decision, your conspiracy theories are pathetic.

No, I'm using it to say he doesn't "double foot" him...SELR_addicks said:

            Good header
Weak, very weak from the Arsenal defender to claim a "push" - Reminded me of the "foul" I asked whether should have been a penalty for a push on Campbell yesterday.0 -

I don’t necessarily disagree that the decision was wrong, but at least be honest. Pope got the ball before contact with Gyokeres.SELR_addicks said:

To be fair to you I do think this is a slight blindspot. Later in the season and he doesn't ref this. On the whole I actually think it would be fine for him to ref any game, his job is to be objective but if you're going to restrict who they do get to ref then you have to consider more than just tradtional rivalsSELR_addicks said:

Ask any Liverpool fan. I guarantee 80-90% of them don't actually care whether Everton win or lose, but will be checking City and Arsenal results every week. It's such a poor way to counter potential bias.fenaddick said:
