The police were letting people through there yesterday by the time I got there (Ransom Walk). There was a police van parked across the bulk of the entrance but quite easy to get through either side of it. There were 6 or 8 special looking coppers (white caps among them), having a chat and looking embarrassed I thought. I reckon the volume of fans heading that way was too many to hold back.Kap10 said:

I see on the BBC site the away game Sat 24th Jan is a 12.30 kick off already can’t be cos Sky have pencilled it in for the exciting free flowing football and entertainment the neutral would get just cos there’s 🥩1

These handrails where a surprise,but what a god send,I am 81 with a recent knee replacement,and had great difficulty getting up and down those steps.Thank you CAFC for making life a little bit more bearable.Covered End said:

When you grab the handrails the edges are very sharp and will cause cuts. They need filing down and making smooth.

@Hex I just ran a quick search with Perplexity and it identified a Met office called Steve Boswell based at Lambeth/Southwark, with the rank Chief Inspector, but it found no evidence he has been involved with football (other than the Met Police footie team) . Club needs to do more in ticketing. Saw adults going into West stand with kids tickets. Told the supervisor who simply said more the fool them. Presumably meaning they are letting the club down.

I think with hindsight and having the opportunity to reflect, the decision by the police to not hold back Millwall could still be argued by the police to be reasonable.There is some logic in trying to remove 3k quickly given the perceived risk of adverse reaction by them if kept waiting.I’m assuming in the absence of any reports to the contrary there were no noteworthy skirmishes between the 2 sets of fans excepting the Sam Bartram gate incursion. On that basis I’d guess the police can claim it was the right call.We don’t like it and consider it unfair but it’s not without any safety merit.
What can’t be defended however is the associated club comms, marshalling/announcements post game and not limiting vehicle access in Charlton Lane ie the implementation of it.The Sam Bartram gate / steps fighting I think is likely to be a ‘hands up we got that wrong’ issue as never really seen before to my knowledge.I’d expect (sadly) a similar arrangement next time with a commitment to handle it better.3 -

And as shown by Saturday and the lack of comms before during and after from our club, nothing has changed in how our own supporters were treated at our ground17
