  • Strange one this no real comment from Charlton it seems to be all Chelsea and his agent , not sure it was ever a goer from our end … especially when Bree deal was done NJ said that was it ,… personally we have the strikers , the most important deal was a RWB and we got a real quality one …. Excellent window for the club now NJ can get to work on what already been a very good start to the season .. now time to take the next step
Why would there be any comment from us? - Fofana's not our player, so we don't speak about him

It tends to be the one rule between clubs, you don't talk about a player specifically until you've signed him.
And NJ is huge on this especially. Wouldn't talk about anyone transfer wise all summer we were linked to. I expect RC to ask in this week's presser but I don't expect to get an answer
  • I think we are seeing a preview of what we could have to come next summer if we stay up.

The likes of Fofana, Rak Sakyi etc are firmly on the table with the current ownership - as long as we can stay up this season. I think we have a tremendous opportunity to go the next level up in the transfer market from next May.
I'd say if we're doing reasonably well come January, we'll be able to make that step then and push on in the league.
  • The deal sheet must’ve been submitted on time. The BBC journalist said as much. Also Mbick going out on loan would indicate we were confident it would happen. It must’ve collapsed afterwards. Perhaps we wouldn’t guarantee game time, the player changed his mind or couldn’t agree how much wages we’d cover/fees.
  • Shame we haven't managed to get Fofana.. We need more quality that end of the pitch that is for sure. But it is strange little from Charlton's side..

That would have been all part of the deal before any paperwork was submitted, sounds like just ran out of time ⌛️
  • If deals are left to the last minute, there is always the possibility of things going wrong and then there’s no chance of any comeback.

Why in the main Jones likes all his dealings to be done early, ie: Last summer
  • Let’s just hope that Godden is not too far away from returning…

  • I’ve seen lots of people saying it was amateurish to leave it this late etc. but in reality a lot of clubs would’ve only allowed there players on loan over the past few days if not hours. If multiple clubs are in for a player it will be some negotiation which takes time.
Thats what makes a farce of the whole window regarding loans…

I'm pretty sure they are aware that there's been a lack of goals so far

This went back and forth between Preston, Celtic, and us all day it seems. I wonder how much time we actually had once we were given the go ahead that we could sign him

I’d genuinely like to know how long it actually takes to get one of these deals done

Embarrassing, if true that we did not submit on time.
This is the thing, if you send it on time then it’s on time, only an error on the paperwork could likely cause an issue.

If it’s sent after the deadline then no point sending it at all to be told too late may as well not send it in at all.

Me too it is only a 74 minute trip to Chelsea (not like he had to go far)

Wonder if the fact multiple clubs were linked; Charlton, Celtic, Preston made it an issue too

Can multiple Data Sheets be submitted for a player? - We "know" that a Data Sheet went in for him to move to Celtic, as that Sky journalist had him on the list, if he's rejected that move... Could submitting a new Data Sheet in time to join us, have been the issue, as the first may have to be cancelled, then ours get subm-Oh shit out of time.

Although saying that, I'm not sure why there needed to be a Data Sheet to Celtic in the first place, as their window closed at 11pm.

We should know better than anyone that Chelsea have a history of messing clubs around and they’ve even done it to Bayern with Jackson this summer.

That won't have helped things , ultimately feels like a deal that had too many moving parts to ever get across the line unfortunately. Chelsea's own striker situation with the whole " will he won't he" Jackson move and the Liam Delap injury won't have helped matters either.
  • Hard to get too excited about 7 goals in the last 3 years, and he’s been out injured since Feb 2025.
  • Assume he goes off to Turkey now as their window is still open

Ahhh… the voice of reason 🤔

  • Kelechi Iheanacho is a free agent after Sevilla released him. Celtic in for him - could be funny.

Anyway, on we go to the next “January Transfer Window Rumours” thread…😉
  • Is Bennett the LB we had on trial still a free agent? Or did he find a club?

Who cares. They’re grown men who haven’t done their job to the required standard yet. They shouldn’t get pity for underperforming, you don’t get that in a normal job
You don't get booed, insulted, sworn at and criticism from people who have never done your job to the same level either

You don’t know that. AA might be a teacher.
    Yeah that's sadly very fair!!

Were "deal sheets" a thing before last night?

Hopefully one of the many experts on here will let me know what they, what data they contain, and the principles and protocols of "submitting" one.

Yeah they've been a "thing" for a good few Transfer Windows now.

All we really know about them, is they're basically a sheet that goes off to the EFL etc. confirming that the deal has been agreed between the two clubs, I think provided that shows its been done before the closure of the window, you get a few more hours to agree terms with the player etc.
  • Was there any reason yesterday wasn't an 11pm shut? How does everyone decide what time to close the window?
  • Whether the club messed up at the end or not I doubt we’ll learn the truth and any insight put out is likely for manipulation.

The one core fact we can take from the last week of the window is after 4 leagues with two goals, the manager and club didn’t see bringing in more firepower or creativity as something that needed addressing.

We’ll learn in the months to come whether that was the right call or not.
