UPDATE: Charlton Athletic have submitted their paperwork to the EFL to sign Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana.
However, it’s understood the feeling at the club is that it may not have gone through in time.
#CAFC required a deal sheet for extra time to complete the transfer.
Surely it's cut and dry whether your email sent on time or not?
isnt it still common to fax these things over? Sure i remember Chris Parkes saying (granted probably 5-8 years ago) this was the case for whatever reason
This went back and forth between Preston, Celtic, and us all day it seems. I wonder how much time we actually had once we were given the go ahead that we could sign him
I’d genuinely like to know how long it actually takes to get one of these deals done
With Hemed didn't we prove we sent it in time it just didn't arrive in time? And as we can't be blamed for internet server traffic we got away with it?

It's a ridiculous way of doing things, but nobody seems to know a better way, as there has to be some sort of deadline.
I do agree with an earlier comment, that the deadline for transfers from PL clubs to EFL clubs should be later. That way the PL clubs can complete their squads, and then can send unwanted players and academy prospects out to EFL clubs. It only needs to be an extra day or two.

I think "getting away with it" would have been the paperwork being too late in retrospect

All we need is a screenshot of an email with a timestamp lol. It never ends

It could be something as simple as that. I remember when I used to work in the office I would sometimes receive an email literally showing it had been sent a minute into the future eg the timestamp on the email might show 12:01pm even though the time on my machine might show 12:00pm instead.

A real shame if we missed out on Fofana by a few minutes. The risk of a late transfer. Would have been happy with just Bree until I knew there was a chance of him as well though so all good.
I think we are seeing a preview of what we could have to come next summer if we stay up.
The likes of Fofana, Rak Sakyi etc are firmly on the table with the current ownership - as long as we can stay up this season. I think we have a tremendous opportunity to go the next level up in the transfer market from next May.
How is not sending it on time even a thing in a professional club especially one of any repute? does it get to five to, the person who’s job it is decides to have a quick cuppa then loses track of time?
Miguel Delaney on SSN saud the EFL are processing two deal sheets after the 7pm deadline. He didn't say who though
I think we’d have put something out saying we are done if we knew we were done. I think it must be like the Hemed deal where there’s some uncertainty over whether it was done in time. Would be nice if it’s sorted overnight and a morning announcement

SSN Scottish reporter just saying that Celtic missed out on Fofana who's joined us instead. Not sure he'd have knowledge of whether we've cocked up getting the paperwork done though.

Maybe Chelsea had bigger deals they prioritised and only let us know at 18.59, giving us 60 seconds to complete and send a form? Who knows. Just because something doesn't happen in time, doesn't make it a Charlton employees fault.

If it’s sent after the deadline then no point sending it at all to be told too late may as well not send it in at all.

As ever, I admire your loyalty to certain players.
