Thought Carey was anonymous today and Apter struggled with his crossing…hopefully they can adapt….beaten by a wonder goal. Do we have someone who can do that? Not sure
Well Coventry hit a wonder strike in first half. Most keepers aren't saving that!
Really? That shot scored 0.2% as an expected goal and for good reason. It was too near the centre of goal. Any professional keeper should save that. I really think there were a lot of people with rose tinted Charlton glasses on today.
First off the xG was 0.03 not 0.2, so basically the same as their goal. Secondly, it had so much curve and movement and was placed right in the corner, it was a phenomenal save.

Have been concerned that if we go behind in games we’ll struggle to get back into it and so it transpired. Three games one goal isn’t going to be good enough. Only three clubs on one goal. Us and bottom two.
Only two clubs on one goal conceded. Us and second place.
But also how many on only one scored? I’m all for building on a solid defence but the difference today was a moment of brilliance. We are lacking that. We played so well but there is a big but.

Load of bollocks that we have lost that. That ball just wasn't falling for us. 1 moment of quality is all it takes in this league. As soon as he cut in I knew a player of his capability I this league can stick that top bins.

We will beat teams playing worse than we did today. My little girls 1st game. She gets one more chance then she's not going again if we lose that one.
@O-Randy-Hunt you're not bring her to Millwall are you? That's far too much pressure to pile on the poor child.

    Enjoyed the match.
We were very good closing Leicester down.
There must have been one but I could not identify a tactical plan when we had the ball.
Would like to see some more one touch football in creating space up front.
Nevertheless,  we didn't deserve to lose this one.
I think we'll be fine this season.

I don't disagree, but I was responding to Shooters using the fact we've only scored one to link us to the bottom two - my point being that you could equally use the fact we've only conceded one to link us to the top two. The reality is we've not conceded many and not scored many, and we're midtable as a result (albeit after three games). If that were the outcome at the end of the season, I'd be delighted.

    And once again I say.....

Where are we in the League ?  Not top 6 that's for sure. Coventry didnt keep a clean sheet today either, so you can stick your cleans sheets up your arse !

  • Need someone else to start upfront. Obvious pick would be Leaburn, but I'm keen on seeing Olaofe get more opportunities, as well.

Team looks OK to me and there quite a few plus points but there's clearly a problem if we concede first.

Early days but if we compare to our last Championship start....then we had Taylor, Gallagher and to a degree, Bonne, scoring vital goals....Stoke, Brentford, Leeds, Fulham spring to mind.

Midfield goals are so important and maybe someone like Coventry or Carey will come through the pack to nick a couple but we'll soon have to be starting Knibbs or Berry.

Your attention seeking on this post-match thread has now found a new level.

It was a brilliant strike from Coventry and a superb save from keeper.

In 40 years I don’t think I’ve seen us play so well and lose. For attitude and effort 10/10 …. A little more savvy and guile and we would have walked it

walking towards the station a Leicester fan said to me …. You will be absolutely fine this season.

I think he’s right but it still hurt to lose , even to a Wordly strike like that
  • Just a bit of composure in front of goal which will come. Again defensively we were excellent, unbelievable strike from the fella. Best game ive seen from Doc. We go again. Non stop singing from covered end 👏🏻

This. Does sting a bit this morning that Leicester got away with that. They were there for the taking and we absolutely bullied them.
A big lesson for the players and management that I think they’ll heed. Good we’ve got a game on Tuesday to get this disappointment out of the system. Then it’s hit-for-7 QPR up next. COYRs

I really think we are on to something. The only worry is a lack of goals which our play deserves and really we should have got a couple at least yesterday. It isn't panic stations time and we have a good game to potentially get into the swing of things next week in that respect. I'm not ruling out the play offs. Not ruling them in yet either but certainly not ruling them out.

It will be interesting to see how Jones reacts to that defeat. Will he think we need to be a little more expansive or stick with the defensive solidity. I suspect the latter, which I wouldn’t disagree with, but 1 goal from three games is maybe a little red flag.
How long is Godden out for? I might have missed it. His guile was missed yesterday.

We win that 3 - 0 on another day. I feel frustrated with the result but not the team because everyone played well. Leaburn was imperious and won everything in the air, Doch and Cov responded to criticism with two outstanding performances, Jones was excellent and would make a decent striker at a lower level... everyone was good.

(I will say, having defended Kelman recently, he annoyed me today. He came on with fresh legs and walked around the pitch).

And while we do have a lot of athleticism in the final third, we're lacking class and quality. We have a tendency to panic and snatch at things.

But I can't be displeased because if we keep playing like that, we'll do well.
I must have watched a different game as I didnt see Leaburn win much in the air at all. Expect more in the air from someone supposedly 6ft 6.
Seriously? He won nearly everything in the air.
I think there’s confusion here. Leaburn wins lots of balls but he often does so without even jumping. If he jumped well then he’d get more of a downward header and/or more controlled header. I find him quite frustrating in this respect.
For all those who big him up: what are his assist and goal statistics. Just like his Dad he is so overrated by our general support base.
Carlo over-rated? Behave. I think your namesake would have played with the big man and probably got quite a few goals as a partnership.

Mendonca quoted saying Leaburn the best forward he played with.
    "...whilst at Charlton".

CAFC represented about 25% of Mendonca' career.

He would also have had a "best forward I played with" at Sheffield United, Rotherham, Doncaster and Grimsby.

Certainly a baptism of fire, but we will be fine and get that win we all crave…🙏

Nathan Jones’s mantra is keep it tight at the back and in midfield and you won’t concede many goals. He has done that, you can tell, so now he’ll focus on the best players to play up top and what combinations. It’s a process. He has some good options up top now. That’s how I view it anyway.

We were superb yesterday and we were beaten by a wonder strike. To be honest Leicester didn’t look much to me.

The result was frustrating, and my gut tells me we’ve got a squad capable of finishing in the top half of the Championship—maybe even sneaking into the playoffs. But then I remember I support Charlton, and the doubts creep back in. I guess it’s the years of shitness since the Premier League days that make it hard to believe too much. So for now, I’ll just settle for staying up.

I think it’s time to see what Knibbs and Tanto can bring to the starting XI against QPR. That’s not to say Carey and TC have been poor—far from it. Carey, in particular, has been excellent so far. But it feels like Knibbs and Tanto might give us that extra bit of cutting edge we’ve been missing.

45 of Tanto’s 53 career goals scored in League 2 or below, with 8 in League 1. Pretty much untested at Championship level.

I admit I am not a fan of Doherty but he was brilliant yesterday. At one point he was screaming at our players and was acting like a proper captain. Well done. Another point is that I don't understand why we don't start the game with the tactics and players that we finish the game with. Anyway, it was a great effort from the team and the crowd were superb.

Imagine I'll get backlash but TC needs to be dropped. No end product and lightweight. Tanto come on and showed more.
Completely agree. Passing is woeful. Didn't want to take his man on today. Doesn't look like scoring or assisting.

However I really do believe he can be a great impact sub off the bench.
He's so integral to the team, available for a pass, taking on oppo players, tracking back, tackling, drawing players away, making space. Mostly in forward positons as an out ball or to keep a press on. Do those of you criticising just want goals, and can't see the rest of what he does?
But his overall job as a striker is too score goals isn't it? Yes you can do that stuff and its great but his final ball is poor and with Leaburn winning some headers, TC isn't near him to run onto a flick on.

I just feel if we had 2 out and out strikers for a longer period, we would have scored at least one and maybe even won it by 3,4 or 5 like NJ alluded too.

I feel this was a proper Charlton performance.  Commitment  and drive never giving up. Took me back to the days of Hales, Peacock etc al.

For a while we've been a team of two halves, yesterday we were consistently good throughout. Every player did their bit.
What it did emphasise was the difference between Lge 1 and Championship chances come in both but forwards need to be sharp and split second decisions made and the standard of keeping is that much higher.

Apart from the defeat my only regret yesterday is that I missed Tracy's presentation.

Olaofe and Kelman … that should be the starting two
