Play like that every game and you win more than you lose.

    Keep the faith
    By not scoring?
Goals will come squire, Keep the faith my little Welsh friend
He’s not Welsh…..he’s very much English and studying at Aberystwyth University.
He’s also the son of one of CL’s all time most loved posters who passed away a while back and is very much missed.
  • Frustrating and unlucky, a lot of good performances from some of the usual suspects but in particular Docherty who I’ve written off was great, and Leaburn was so much improved on Kelman

crazy how different the experience is at this level, by which I more mean the crowd and dynamic around the stadium, compared to what we’ve been used to. Here’s to many more 20k+ crowds !!

    What was the attendance?

    Edit. 22k. Just checked.
  • What was today’s attendance?
  • Whatever the bad luck, referees etc, the fact is we've scored one goal in three games. We should have scored earlier against Watford and should have scored against Bristol and Leicester. But we didn't take our chances. Not panicking or feeling negative because at least we're creating chances. But this is a tough league full of teams that can take one chance like Leicester did today. And we're going to make it tougher on ourselves if our final third doesn't improve somewhat. I believe we have enough to survive, but our attack is a deficiency that has to be sorted. Still better than watching League 1 dross though.
  • A game where we did everything right but score. Without doubt the better team which in itself is a massive statement we will be absolutely fine this season we just need that bit of cutting edge up top I think NJ will keep a settled team and not change anything but personally I would try to get Tanto into the mix from the start
  • Just rewatched the entire game on Sky (after attending earlier).

The best I've seen us play for an entire game for some time.

A mixture of bad luck, excellent blocks and lacking some finesse in the final pass or attempt at goal. The type that Berry or Godden would deliver last season.

CC and TC missed very straightforward headers, looking back.
The TC miss really is a bad one when you watch it back. I haven't reseen Coventry's

Our current “shot conversion rate” after three games is 2.5% (40 shots taken, 1 goal).

The lowest rate across all 24 teams last season was 8.4%. The season before it was 7.8%. We could have scored 3 from 3 and still be behind the lowest rate across 48 teams the last two years.

It’d have to be going some to continue to scoring at such a pitiful rate. The chances will start turning into goals soon.
Stats can be deceiving though because honestly I feel like today we unfortunately just come up against a brick wall of a goalkeeper who was never gonna concede
I’m not trying to say anything about what should’ve happened and rewrite history. Most teams will go through streaks - we are going through a dry streak at the minute.

Equal to the last three games where our 40 shots converting to 1 goals is three times worse than the worst season average, we can expect periods between now and May where we’ll go above average a score 5 or 6 times from 40 shots, bringing us closer to the middle.

Over 3 games, it’s not that surprising to go hot or cold but over 46 it would be extremely surprising.

  • Dominated them second half and brilliant as a team in the press and defensively, but couldn’t score. Leaburn and Campbell missed great chances, which is a worry going forward. Looking tame up front without Godden. But early days.
  • What was that object on the pitch in the first half that Nathan Jones ended up taking off anyway?
  •  Never looked like scoring !

Need a decent striker - going to be a long season …
You could have Jimmy Greaves and Marco van Bastens Love child up top and I reckon they'd struggle to score in this set up!
What?! We were insanely unlucky, had a goal
disallowed, a brilliant shot from distance saved, a header saved on the line somehow and their keeper was the MOTM.

Fantastic effort across the park and we didn't look out of place at all. So unfortunate the ball didn't land for us today.

It's an unpopular opinion as they're we'll liked players, but TC and Leaburn as a front 2 isn't good enough at this level.
    agreed

    A birthday balloon I think

We win that 3 - 0 on another day. I feel frustrated with the result but not the team because everyone played well. Leaburn was imperious and won everything in the air, Doch and Cov responded to criticism with two outstanding performances, Jones was excellent and would make a decent striker at a lower level... everyone was good.

(I will say, having defended Kelman recently, he annoyed me today. He came on with fresh legs and walked around the pitch).

And while we do have a lot of athleticism in the final third, we're lacking class and quality. We have a tendency to panic and snatch at things.

But I can't be displeased because if we keep playing like that, we'll do well.
I must have watched a different game as I didnt see Leaburn win much in the air at all. Expect more in the air from someone supposedly 6ft 6.
Seriously? He won nearly everything in the air.
I think there’s confusion here. Leaburn wins lots of balls but he often does so without even jumping. If he jumped well then he’d get more of a downward header and/or more controlled header. I find him quite frustrating in this respect.
For all those who big him up: what are his assist and goal statistics. Just like his Dad he is so overrated by our general support base.
Carlo over-rated? Behave. I think your namesake would have played with the big man and probably got quite a few goals as a partnership.

Mendonca quoted saying Leaburn the best forward he played with.
  • Imagine I'll get backlash but TC needs to be dropped. No end product and lightweight. Tanto come on and showed more.
Completely agree. Passing is woeful. Didn't want to take his man on today. Doesn't look like scoring or assisting.

However I really do believe he can be a great impact sub off the bench.

He's so integral to the team, available for a pass, taking on oppo players, tracking back, tackling, drawing players away, making space. Mostly in forward positons as an out ball or to keep a press on. Do those of you criticising just want goals, and can't see the rest of what he does?
To be fair, doing the most basic parts of the job shouldn't make him undroppable. I'd also disagree that he takes players on. That's a big part of the problem people have with him.

No one is saying he's undroppable, just that his importance is under estimated. I'd love to see stats for taking players on but I can't find any, I think he tries it more often than others think. He's also smart enough to know there's no point taking your player on down the wing if there's no one in the box to cross it to. It's better to recycle and find a better way through

Rest assured, you're not alone feeling disappointed that we lost. Everyone is. You may be alone if you couldn't see anything positive in the performance though.
Although that's the worry - if we couldn't win when we played well and they didn't, what happens when teams do play well?

Sometimes a better sign that you win even when not playing well.
  • Special mention to the AC stand ball boy who just couldn't be bothered to get off his arse and get the ball back to our players when we are pushing for an equaliser.
Was like it all game. Looked like he'd rather be tidying his room.
  • Watching today I saw a massive gap in midfield ball getting played through the centre circle all game and if Godden was playing he would have bagged at least a hatty

Did he  ??  Didnt get a header on or off  target or flick a ball on for a someone to run onto.

Indeed, no headers at goal that I recall. I'm referring to when balls were launched forward in the air, he won most of these and did flick them on or hold the ball up to bring others into play. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.
He won some headers/knock ons and had one header on target that the keeper saved.
The saved header is at roughly 1:45 here:
Also, TC would have had an assist if Coventry's wonder strike had gone in.
