MATCH THREAD : Charlton Athletic V Leicester City : Saturday 23rd August 2025 : KO 12:30pm

Today it is the turn of Leicester City to tread The Valley turf at our second 12:30 kick off of the season, must say the last early kick off didn't end too shabby did it, thanks to good old Harvey getting that late late winner against Watford, so more of the same would be good lads.
Leicester arrive newly relegated from The Prem last season, and after a couple of less than convincing first two matches produced three points, currently sit two places below us in 12th spot.
A lot has been said about this being a good time to be playing them on the preview thread, and it may look that way, but a wounded fox is a dangerous fox, and we will again need to be at our game from the off and put them on the back foot early doors, but we are capable of being victorious today I feel
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Nathan Jones confirmed that Will Mannion and Reece Burke have both returned to training at Sparrows Lane, no mention of Godden?
Ricardo Pereira could return for the visitors, though Harry Souttar, Victor Kristiansen and Bobby Decordova-Reid remain sidelined.
The two sides have met on 53 previous occasions with the Addicks winning 24, the Foxes 18 and the remaining nine meetings resulting in draws, Charlton ran out 2-1 victors when the teams last met at The Valley back in 2013 thanks to goals from Michael Morrison and Yann (The Man) Kermorgant...
Today will mark our 1000th home league match in the second tier, let's make it a grand occasion...🤦♂️
Here we go then
Team...
Miles Leaburn will make his full Sky Bet Championship debut this afternoon as Nathan Jones makes one change for the visit of Leicester City (KO 12.30pm BST).
The 21-year-old, who scored in his first start of the season against Stevenage in the Carabao Cup, replaces Charlie Kelman who moves to the bench.
Academy graduates Zach Mitchell and Ibrahim Fullah are also named amongst the Addicks' substitutes bench.
Kayne Ramsay, Lloyd Jones and Amari’i Bell will once again start in a back three in front of Thomas Kaminski.
Rob Apter and Josh Edwards will operate as wing-backs with Conor Coventry, Sonny Carey and skipper Greg Docherty making up a midfield three.
Tyreece Campbell joins fellow academy graduate Leaburn in a front two.
Kelman, Mitchell and Fullah are joined on the bench by Ashley Maynard-Brewer, Macaulay Gillesphey, Karoy Anderson, Joe Rankin-Costello, Harvey Knibbs and Tanto Olaofe.
Charlton: Kaminski; Ramsay, Jones, Bell; Apter, Coventry, Carey, Docherty (c), Edwards; Leaburn, Campbell
Subs: Maynard-Brewer, Gillesphey, Mitchell, Anderson, Rankin-Costello, Fullah, Knibbs, Olaofe, Kelman

Reminder, or for those who dont know, that Sky Sports coverage starts at 11am on both their Football and Main Event channels, although imagine they'll also be talking about the other 12:30pm KO's today, so it won't just be coverage discussing our match.

Leaburn for Kelman the only change. Nice to see Fullah on the bench5
-
Leaburn in for Kelman, Fullah in for Berry, and Mitchell replaces Mitchell
Not overly surprised by the fact that Fullah is there, nor am I too surprised about Miles but thought Jones would have left the starting eleven alone.
Hopefully means that Kelman can start against Cambridge in midweek, and is a good opportunity in that game to open his account and gain some confidence.7 -
Probably as expected.0

Leaburn’s looked dangerous in his cameos and deserves a start.12

Hopefully Leaburn can step up. So often struggles when he starts games0

First start for Leaburn, and nice to see Fullah on the bench, looks good...1

Like that team and love that bench ! When you see that you can really see how the club have built the squad4

Really looking forward to seeing how our defence deals with the wonderkid Monga1

Hopefully this is a sign that NJ has realised the need for a mix in the strikers, Leaburn and TC should work better together, and when they both come on, Kelman and Olaofe should compliment eachother more than TC and Kelman did.

Looked on the Leicester twitter page and i don't think there is a single fan happy at their lineup.1

Happy with that change, the way we play at the moment, we need someone more physical up top. Kelman and TC wasn't an effective combination.0

They have a very good pedigree of players here -

Kelman against tired defenders could be a great move.
Leaburn deserves to start.
On my way to the valley. Very excited. Reckon we will get this done. 2-0 to the addicks.

Happy with that team and bench.
Still going with my 2-0 prediction but decided on Miles and Fullah with the goals.0 -
Who are their danger players then?0
-
We will do very well to get a result today. We will need not just a performance but also the rub of the green. Our midfield has improved in the second half in both the past leagues games. We can't afford that against a side like Leicester. Have to be on it from the get go.0

Going by Leicester fan comments, Vestegaard and Soumare have a mistake in them.3
